“Disappointing”
Reviewed 14 November 2013 via mobile

Unfortunately we arrived at the Westin on the back of stays at two brilliant Shangri-La hotels. As such, it was easy to find fault - blocked hand basin, a misfitting wardrobe door that caused the courtesy light to remain on, erratic replacement of towels and toiletries, etc. However, we did visit other 5 star hotels and came to the conclusion that location and facilities earned it the no. 2 position.
Key pluses and minuses:
+ Good location, 5 mins from Kuah, the principal town on the island which, hardly beautiful, is an interesting visit.
+ Good choice of food, 4 restaurants and an excellent breakfast buffet.
+ Nice pools and beach.
- Poor soundproofing between rooms and hallway which meant we were awoken every night about 1 am with latenighters returning to their rooms.
- A constant racket of party music from the poolside bar which could heard from our balcony.
- For those with knee trouble or the suchlike, 60 odd steps from the lobby area to the pools.

In summary, it's been okay but would suggest prospective travellers check out Pelangi Beach Resort which clearly looked the best to us and is only 5 mins from Pentai Cenang, the island's 'restaurant row'.

Dear secondhopper,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I very much regret that your stay was disrupted by the noise from neighboring rooms and I have informed our engineering team to explore the opportunity to insulate the doors and frames even further. Thank you for keep us in the loop in regards to the sound from Splash poolside bar as well. On the other hand, I appreciate a lot your positive feedback recognizing our location, dining venues, pools and beach. Our sincere apologies for the disappointment you have experienced. I will ensure that we continue to improve on our service levels and product quality.

Be well,
Michael Schlueter

I was very excited arriving in Langkawi! The hotel did not disappoint me at all! We like friendliness and we got it! The hotel had a lovely ambience to it and I think this was generated by the staff!
Breakfast glorious( wish I had not eaten so much!!)
Very well located to the the town( not that much was there)
We hired a car and toured the island which was very relaxing!!
We stayed 3 nights and I wish we had another night!!
A big thank you to sharific( waiter at breakfast venue). Very informative and friendly ! Should go along way with the Westin!
We will return!!
Thank you to you all.

Despite being slightly out of Kuah and a 20 minute cab from Cenang Beach (the tourist area), the Westin is a great location with a beautiful private beach and an unbelievable pool (we spent 4 or 5 hours by it each day!

Good gym, friendly staff, great buffet breakfast, nice rooms in a tropical paradise.

If you're looking for a luxury hotel that you don't even need to leave, this is the one for you.

Getting in to the 'touristy areas' is easy and relatively cheap, but this spot is best enjoyed by the pool and beach.

More expensive than the Malaysian average, but still great value for money when compared to Australia

The resort is really modern and stylish but not too much.

The rooms are very nice, totally white with a great view over the bay.

The restaurants are top. As usual the Westin breakfast is perfect with a lot of options. The buffet restaurant for dinner is great too.

The beach is ok, for sure not the clearest water and finest sand but the view on some small islands in front. If you want a more nice beach with more privacy you should decide for The Andaman Langkawi.

The location of the resort is perfect, a bit away from the main city Kuah which you can still reach by walk in a few minutes.

Room Tip: Take a room with a view over the bay. You will not regret it.

Dear afro88,

First of all I would like to thank you for having chosen The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa for your holidays. I am so pleased to hear you had an excellent stay with us and your positive comment about our newly rejuvenated room. It is very kind of you to highlight our cuisine and I am pleased to know that your dining expectations were met. As for the beach, unfortunately we were not blessed with the best beach on the island and although we endeavor to keep it clean, we consistently battle in our area with the debris brought in by the tides. I appreciate also your highlight on strategic location our resort is situated at. We hope to welcome you again for another renewing stay in the near future!

3 days in Langkawi was possibly the most serene holiday time I had in a couple of decades. Westin Langkawi was a big part of that whole experience. Located very close to the Eagle Square, the jetty and some pretty good shopping / eating places in Langkawi Westin , as it turned out to be, was exactly what my web research showed it to be. An outstanding facility right there on the beach, great rooms , outstanding service and great food. Time slows down on Langkawi and more so when you stay at an awsome place like the Westin.... Would surely go back there someday

we are half way through our 8 day 30th anniversary break we were told that this was a 5 star resort but due to the state of the rooms and resort i don't think it warrants a 5 star rating.
We are staying in a ocean facing room on the second floor 2310 where there are stains on the ceiling where the air conditioning has leaked in the past the valance has had a rip in it since the day we arrived and the room generally is in a bad state of repair not what you would come to expect from a 5 star westin resort the paint is all chipped and scuffed all over the room.
The swimming pool has tiles missing from it and the swim up bar has mold growing around it in the pool where it has obviously not been cleaned for some time.
Today they actually gave us towels around the pool which had holes in them which should not happen in any hotel let alone a 5 star hotel.
The food and drink in the hotel are expensive as you would expect but you can eat and drink in many local restaurants for a fraction of the price and the food is very nice.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and always smiling which is a plus for this hotel and there are not many.
the whole resort in general needs a complete over hall to bring it up to a 5 star rating and to warrant the rates that they are charging as it is now showing its age.

Room Tip: room 3210 is in the center and has a nice clear view over the sea and is on the same floor as the di...

Dear Simon M,

Thank you very much for writing this review about your experience. I am certainly disappointed that your stay was not all it could have been. For the shortfall in cleaning your room properly, I sincerely apologies and have spoken with our housekeeping team in order to address all the shortcomings. I am also concerned about the issues regarding our pool cleanliness and will continue to improve on this area. I acknowledge your comments regarding our pricing for food & beverage, we will review our pricing strategy continuously and to make sure that we are in line with other 5 star hotels on the island. I have taken note on the shortfalls you have mentioned and please rest assured that similar issues are not likely to happen again.
