“Fabulous hotel”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

We stayed at the Westin Langkawi for only one night prior to chartering a yacht from Dream Charters at the nearby yacht club. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, the service was fantastic - especially from Sabri in Reception. It was my husband's birthday and we were upgraded to a suite, which was very well appointed. The hotel also delivered a chocolate birthday cake to our suite, which was most unexpected. Our dinner at Tides restaurant was fabulous, delicious seafood and attentive service. We enjoyed our evening so much that we returned to Tides for dinner with our crew at the end of our charter. The hotel is beautiful, the grounds very well maintained. We were sorry we had not booked to stay a little longer.

My family and I stayed at the Westin Langkawi from 11th May 2014 until 13th May 2014. My wife booked our hotel stay in Langkawi as a surprise birthday celebration for me. The hotel is located by the beach near Kuah Jetty. Our little adventure to Langkawi is totally planned by my wife last minute and I am very thankful to her for choosing the Westin for our stay there. The hotel is splendid and we really had a good time there.

From our hotel room, we are able to see the swimming pool, beach, sea and the surrounding islands. It is strongly recommended to swim in the evening an hour before sunset in the infinity pool and you might just find out why yourself what I am referring to when you are there. There's three swimming pools in the hotel and a watersport facilities available to guests who are interested in Kayak and windsurfing. The hotel gym is located in another building of which we didn't get to visit during our stay there.

Apart from the clean and modern room, the hotel is equipped with a DVD player and a 40 or 42 inch LED TV with satellite TV channels. The toiletries are a must try when you visit this hotel as the three of us love the smell of the soap and shampoo very much. There's a huge bath tub in the room for those who prefer to soak before a warm shower. The minibar comes with alcohol and other drinks. Muslim guests can request the hotel staff to remove the alcohol from the fridge if it's inappropriate.

The best thing that have ever happened to us in Westin Langkawi is the opportunity to be served by the Bellman - Mr Nasrun Ismail. He is a very kind and polite person and always have the smile on his face whenever we arrived at the hotel. He would always greet us at the lobby whenever he see us and surprisingly, he remember the name of my daughter since the day of our arrival until we left of which it is very hard to find a gentlemen like him nowadays. Mr Nasrun have left a very strong impression to us and we would like to thank him very much for making our little adventure in Langkawi a memorable one.

The services offered by other staffs is definitely 5 stars and nothing less. All the staffs in Westin Langkawi is friendly and always helpful to us. If you're looking for a place with magnificent view, 5 stars quality room and best guest service for a reasonable price - I would strongly recommend the Westin Langkawi.

A general review about Langkawi - Langkawi is a duty free island famous for its duty free cigarettes, alcohols, perfume, chocolates, glassware and etc. Trip to Langkawi is strongly recommended during the low season(non Malaysian school or public holiday) as it will be cheaper during that time - be it the hotel room, car rental, watercraft/motorized water sports rental and other facilities/places of interests that is available in Langkawi. Tourists are strongly advise to rent a car in Langkawi - at the island itself for a good bargain and choice of car as they can drive within the island to all the places of interests.

Rental is about RM60-RM80 for a Toyota Vios and the price goes up for higher/better spec models during low season. Rental at Kuala Kedah jetty is NOT RECOMMENDED as they require the tourists to pay upfront a deposit and which serves as their commission and it's very difficult to get a good bargain/quality car when a payment is made before viewing the car condition.

Driving around Langkawi is easy as many signboards are available and it is more convenient than taking a taxi with the risk of being overcharged or stranded in a place when the taxi is not available.

Room Tip: Be an SPG member and request for room upgrade to SEAVIEW at the front desk during low season.

Thank you very much for the detailed review about your experience. We are glad you had a great time staying with us during your birthday celebration and appreciate you encouraging remarks about our beautiful pools and nicely rejuvenate rooms. We have to agree with you that our resort offer wonderful panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, surrounding islands and the endless stretch of the blue sky.

On the other hand, it is also very kind of you to mention our friendly and helpful associates specially at concierge department, as they truly are the heart and soul of the resort. There was nothing we could complain nor criticise. After reading a few past reviews we were a little concerned but everything was great. The perfect location, amazing breakfast ESP juice bar, pool areas and attentive staff, food and new modern rooms....all 5 star. It was the best time to go as fewer tourists about. Easy walk to yacht club, jetty point with huge eagle and also authentic Malay restaurants and shopping mall....shopping not that great.....better on other side of the island. Hired a car for the day from jetty point..only 50 MYR for the day ( half the cost from hotel)... Easy to go around the island in a couple of hours and that includes stop offs and cable car. Loved the seclusion and surrounding gardens of the Westin. Definitely would return here.

Room Tip: Ocean view was perfect

The hotel grounds are beautiful and the area for the spa is very tranquil, pool was great, food was good, the service wasn't that great, rooms were nice, we had a balcony with a view to a small beach, the tennis courts were ok, its a very beautiful looking hotel but there wasn't any real feeling to it, I wouldn't stay again because the service would take away from my relaxation. The room keys stopped working on a daily basis and our room was a good 10 mins walk to the reception area. Also I put down towels only 10 mins later for my lounger and towel to be gone.

Room Tip: Some rooms looked onto the pool, we had a room to the right hand side that looked onto a small beach...

Dear fifi19762013,

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. Appreciate your positive comments about beautiful hotel, dining experience and unique pools, we can say that the spa pool which sits next to the spa sanctuary allows you to enjoy some precious moment of serenity. We have taken note on your comments of the poor services rendered by our staffs, and a retraining is on the way to avoid similar occurrences in the future. Despite the challenges you experienced, we would take pleasure in welcoming you back for another occasion so that you could experience the resort as it is meant to be.

There is so much to say about this hotel :) We stayed there for two weeks with our 2 kids (aged 2 months and 7 years).

As we arrived, everything was handled quite fast so the start was good! As we got our room, it was exactly as described and as we had expected. It was modern, comfortable and functional, with gorgeous view to the ocean. The room was cleaned every day, always refilled with complimentary mineral water.

Breakfast was very rich, there was something for everyone. As for the a la carte restaurants in the hotel, it was rather expensive in my opinion. Perhaps I still hope it's cheaper in Asia as it is in Europe but the prices have leveled up pretty much. But the food and the drinks were really good!

The one thing I did not like was the sea. Not the beach itself (which was very clean and white) but the water itself. The bottom (don't know the correct word in english) was soft and muddy and the water was not transparent. That is enaugh for me not to go in :))) Yet my son swam and was pretty happy ;)
For the white beaches there are some luxury hotels on the other side of the island (Sofitel etc).

There is KFC, Starbucks, Baskin&Robbins in 10 min walking distance, also local harbour where there are connection ferries to many islands.

Dear Pille-Riin,

First of all we would like to thank you for having chosen The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa for this special occasion. We delighted to know that you and your family have enjoyed 2 weeks stay here with us. We truly appreciate your kind compliments about our lovely hotel and newly rejuvenated rooms. We would say that the views from ocean view rooms make for an extra special stay. Waking up to the magnificent sounds of the waves and the breath taking scenic view is to die for. Thank you also for recognizing our signature SuperFoodsRx buffet breakfast and rest assured that we take your comment for the a la carte price and will review them with our team. We truly sorry that we have let you down with regards to the beach, our beach is not as good as the beach in the North of Langkawi, as we were unfortunately not blessed with the best on the island. We hope that we may have another opportunity to welcome you again in the near future.

The resort is magnificent and gorgeous. The staff on the other hand have no clue to interact with guests, do not offer any assistance in terms of tours, escorting you to your room and so on. There is no warmth in their attitude. They really need to train extensively in hospitality.
