“Gorgeous hotel - amazing holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2008

The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings, the gardens, the sea, and you can get little buggies to and from reception, and it will drop you right outside your bungalow, or wherever you want.
Pool is lovely, overlooking the sea and has a bar in it, and the beach is small but still luxurious!
A band play most nights in the nightclub/bar near the pool, and they are amazing!!
Staff, rooms, food were all great. Absolutely no complaints and I will never forget this holiday!

Sheraton Beach Resort is perhaps the best place in Langkawi for leisure as well as business trip. The personnels working here are ever smiling and always ready to render you required services.Spread over a lofty green huge terrace close to the beaches, commuting to and fro here is very attractive because of the lovely trolley cars which offer you services whenever you call.

The private beaches, swimming pool, gym, restaurants, conference centre, all are highly praiseworthy. Specially services of the reastaurant "Spice Trader" and the bar " Chime" are definitely mentionworthy.

Though the interiors of the rooms are serene, there is scope for enhancing the cleanliness further in accordance with the true Sheraton spirit!

Stayed in early April, just after the busy holiday season and just before the raining season sets in. As a result it was quiet in the hotel and whole of Langkawi which suited us well. The location was relatively remote compared to Cenang beach so you can't simply walk out of the hotel and wander into local restaurants though Cenang was only a 20 minute cab ride and the main town another 10 minutes away.

Reception was friendly with a fruit juice on arrival - we arrived early and they were gracious enough to check us into our roons about 3 hours earlier. We had a partial sea view with a balcony which I totally recommend. The decor was a bit tired but clean nevertheless. Wired broadband internet is available in the rooms and wireless around reception and pool. There were 5 restaurants, there were 2 pools (1 for children) and a pool side bar which also serves bar food. Restaurant service at the 4 restaurants were friendly though the a la carte menu lacked imagination, the buffet at Feast was simply stunning in choice and variety.

There is the usual leisure desk where activities and trips can be booked - we went on a snorkelling trip and the bountiful fish in the clear waters was absolutely amazing. Duty free shopping is also available (Langkawi has a special status but beware if you are travelling to Kuala Lumpur and then outbound again - they will be confiscated by security unless they are stored in your main luggage.

Will certainly return to Langkawi and the Sheraton - a word of warning if you collect SPG loyalty points; book directly through them or your night(s) stay will not count!

Although a nice environment, the hotel is rather old and the rooms need urgent refurbishment. The pool is nothing to write home about, but the worst is the beach (that is if you can call a 2x30 metre strip of sand in between rocks a beach). I really believe Sheraton should look into this resort, as I don't think it meets the standards one would come to expect. I would rate this hotel a 3 star, and not a 5 star.

We stay for 5 days during the 2nd week of Febuary 2008.
Frankly, Sheraton Langkawi was not our top choices b’cos we would like to get a development that offers a nicer beach front. However, many hotels were fully booked then, and therefore, we selected Sheraton because of its name.

Check-In: At the reception, we were being directed to take a seat at the lobby lounge, while the staff took our details & documents and arrange for us to check in. Everything was smooth and I reminded the staff that that my travel agent has arranged for late check out as our flight was in the evening. But the staff told us that I must call the day before, to reconfirm. Frankly, I felt the hotel should actually take the initiative instead of asking their guest to remember their own request. Anyway, not too much trouble for us.

Room: The condition of our room was good (although not extremely new), just like what we see from the pictures before our booking. The room was spacious with a good balcony. However, we did not understand why the housekeepers did not clean the balcony when they make up the rooms daily. They have such a nice balcony but its covered with spider webs & very dusty. We did not bother to complain anyway. I would suggest that guest closed the fold doors to the balcony when they are out to avoid insects.

The Stay:
We were lucky to get a room that was not too far from the pool, beach and cafes. But we have to use quite a lot of stairs in order to get to the restaurants, beach etc. Not a problem for us but the elderly have to take that into consideration. The hotel offers mini buses to bring guest around the resort…

The plus point of the resort is, it is very peaceful and quiet. It gives you the feeling of having the whole place to yourself.

The pool was a disappointment because it is really too small to support a resort of few hundred rooms. Operating time is 8am to 8pm. We have to get up at 8am to use the pool juz to avoid the crowd. On one day, the pool is not ready at 8am. It is covered with quite a lot of fallen leaves & flowers.

The beach is another disappointment as there are too many rocks (big & small) surrounding it and makes you wonder whether if it is safe to swim. Also the waters and shore looked dirty when we were there. Beach beds are sufficient through – luckily it is rather quiet (that is our priority), so it is still ok to laze around. Well, we can only say that this resort is not strategically located for this purpose.

The Meals:

Breakfast is buffet style – sufficient, at least just enough to satisfy us. They have a staff to make fresh juices throughout, which we appreciated. Off course, the varieties didn’t change very much every day, from pancakes to waffles, from fried rice to fried noodles… , at times it can be a little crowded.

We had one of our dinners in Kuah town. We wanted to dine in Wonderland Seafood Restaurant cos we were told that they are good & very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, they were closed on CNY. A local chinese shop keeper recommended Sin Sze Chuan Restaurant (which is abt 3 mins down the road). Dine in open space, look a little rundown. We had 2 coke, 2 white rice, a steam fish (seabass), fried chilli squid & a fried veg. We paid RM50, reasonable. Food is tasty. The little setback is that it is located near a very big drain (so called river). I keep getting this little foul smell which I suspect it come from the drain. BTW: we paid RM24 x 2 = RM48 for taxi for the return trip to kuah town. There is nothing exciting about the duty-free store in Kuah. We got better stuffs in the airport. Also weather is so hot & air quite polluted.

Towards the right side of the Sheraton entrance, abt 10-15 mins walk, we found 2 seafood restaurants. We selected this restaurant called “Shin Mi” cos’ it is situated just next to the Squid farm. We thought we could get fresh & good BBQ Squid. But it turned out to be a total disappointment. The waitress strongly recommended Tiger Prawn which we agreed to try a piece since it sounded huge. So our meal is One Tiger Pawn (not big), Thai style fried squid, fried veg , an uninteresting fried rice & 2 coke. We paid RM107. They charged us RM63 (RM18 per 100g) for that miserable prawn, which the waitress claimed that it weighs 350g. This is really a hoax & ridiculous. That prawn definitely don’t fetch 350g & for 350g is almost the size of a small lobster. What we don’t like is that they are definitely “chopping” on tourists. In Singapore, that prawn cost less than S$10 in a good restaurant. Anyway, we paid the bill quietly cos’ we just don’t want to let this affect our holidays. This encounter aside, I regretted going to this restaurant is because of the sloppy road between the hotel & restaurant. This road has no pedestrian walkway & has a few curves. So we are actually sharing the same curve road with speeding cars & there is a danger that the cars might not see us. It is not worth the risk!

We also try the buffet dinner in the hotel. It cost abt RM110 per pax. At the BBQ station, they have small crabs, small lobsters, Squids, Fish, Beef, etc. Salad Bars, Deserts, Some fry dishes – quite a lot of varieties. Nice environment & u can eat & chat for hours. Very relaxing to dine here.

Spa – We took up a 1 hr Balinese Massage. The staffs are polite but their skills not up to our expectations. We paid abt RM220 pax + tips (not compulsory).

Gym – Small but good enough. Free to use. Has nice sea view.

Late Checkout – We were being charged additional RM90 after discount. Frankly, based on our experiences, we were never being charged in other hotels elsewhere. Anyway, we needed the extension quite badly cos' we need a nap badly to recover our lost sleep in the last nite. We dont know, something gone with the bed sheets. We requested to change in the morning but the housekeeper took hrs.

Staffs – friendly, they tried to accommodate if you insist. Overall good

Overall, we enjoy our stay in Sheraton Langkawi. It a Peaceful & Quiet holiday which we wanted.

We stayed at Sheraton Beach Resort Langkawi for 4 days in late February 2008 in a Ocean front room.

We were particularly impressed by the great service and hospitality shown by the staff. We lost our luggage in transit on way to Langkawi (thanks to Malaysian Airlines). When the staff at the resort learnt about it, they not only kept track of the same with the authorities at the airport but also gifted us with free apparel from their store.

The property itself is beautiful - clean and well-maintained. Beach, though, is really small. Actually not even a beach - it is more like a cliff-side with little direct access to the ocean.

Food options are really good. We ate at couple of the restaurants in the resort. Food at Spice Trader was really good.

One minus though: The property is really not in the center of activities. It is bit far from Kuah town and Pantai Cenang area. Therefore, renting a car is highly recommended if staying here. One tip: Do not rent the car from the resort. It is very expensive (around RM 170 per day as compared to RM 50 from anywhere in the city).

Overall, I would really recommend the resort to anyone visiting Langkawi as a good family-friendly resort and nice peaceful place to relax.

This hotel is excellent. We have stayed there 3 times. We enjoy the nature in the estate, the sailing, the poolside (see video) and the restaurants. The staff are on-the-ball, very friendly and extremely helpful. See attached video also.
