Truly outstanding hotel. All staff friendly, and more than helpful. Rooms excellent, huge bathrooms, huge beds, large sitting area and huge patio. The beaches are private and fabulous. The food was outstanding. The hotel is as ecofriendly as possible and is set in semi tropica surroundings where there are monkeys, monitor lizards, touchans, flying squirrels and a whole bunch of pretty fish. crabs (though the beaches are excellent).

We have stayed at a good few 5 star hotels and this is the best.

My wife and I just returned from a fabulous 5 day holiday at the Sheraton Beach Resort. When we were first looking to stay at the Sheraton we were very concerned about the comments we read on TripAdvisor about this resort. I must say that we found this resort to be a 5 star in all categories, facilities, accommodations, food and service. The staff at the Sheraton could not do enough to make our stay more pleasant. The facilities were outstanding, food was excellant and accommodations were terrific. We stayed in a beach front cottage that offered an outstanding view of the beach and ocean and was well furnished and serviced regularly. The resteraunts offered great atmosphere and tremendous foood and service. The pool are although aged offered an outstanding view of the ocean, was clean and well laid out. This is a terrific place to stay and would highly recommend it to everyone looking for a laid back holiday.

We (me, my wife and kids under 5 years of age) stayed at Sheraton Langkawi for 4 Days and 3 Nights in early June 2007. Our initial experience at the hotel started out not so great. The reception desk had a list of questions, documentation requirements, as well as a huge deposit before they could even welcome us (Regardless of the fact that we had prior reservations fully paid via our travel agent)

We had reserved a superior room; however as soon as we entered our room after a long ferry ride from Penang to Langkawi and an hour wait and quarrel at the reception, we were surprised to see a herd of RED ANTS on our bed and the area surrounding it. This was certainly not acceptable specially with small children around.

Anyways, the guest services manager was nice enough to move us to a separate and an upgraded room. So, then we were in business.

Our first night, we were awakened by a couple of monkeys jumping on the roof top throwing out stuff. At first, it scared the hell out of us, but then we called in security and they scared the monkeys off.

The overall ambiance is wonderful, specially the decor within the lobby, restaurants as well as the rooms. The exterior feels like a rainforest at times and a hill-station when you have to walk around, which actually gives you cramps sometimes as the resort is fairly uneven and not suitable for straight walks unless you are a hiker.

The food in all the restaurants is highly expensive, and there is no food outlet nearby unless you take a 15 minute taxi drive. We did find a safe haven at a nearby harbour hosting KFC and a free play area across it, courtesy of Petronas.

The best things about the resort was the comfy bed, the breathtaking view at the pool and the Fitness center. The worst thing, was the initial reception/interrogation, price, and the highly annoying sound of cricket, monkeys, and other creatures that haunt you inside the room as well 24 hours.

If you do use the play area, make sure you ask if there is a charge for any of activities, as we got fooled into a batik painting gimmick which no mention was made of charges initially, and later a 45 RM bill was added to our tab.

The resort is most ideal for honeymooners or couples with no children.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 5 days.

The service was extremely friendly at all times and we felt completely welcome even when making requests.

It's not the newest or flashiest or most expensive resort on Langkawi but it is very good value considering that it is right on the water with walkways and small coves right alongside.

I will admit that the pool/main beach area might become a little crowded in high season, but in September it wasn't a problem.

The food is terrific too.

All in all a great place.

Suggestion - hire a scooter for fun day trips around the island.

We are experienced, mature and fairly fussy travellers. The hotel was very good, food excellent and the pool and beaches fine. Previous
reports we had read varied from 'awful' to 'excellent', we found it excellent. i could imagine the pool and beach being crowded in High season though. We went in late May '07 and it was nearly empty everywhere.

The service from everyone was exceptional, curtious and very very pleasant.

Fairly hilly terrain, not ideal for anyone not able to walk, although free site transport is available on numerous small 'buses'.

We would recommend this hotel to any one.

My boyfriend and stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it.
I was quite concerned about the various reviews I read. I actually tried to change my booking, being a very well travelled person and a person who believes you should only stay in a hotel that is at the very least the same or better than your room at home.
I do not understand how people don’t like it at the Sheraton Langkawi.
Our room was fantastic – sea facing room, located on 3rd level looking into the tress, we felt we were in a tree house, bathroom and main bedroom are very well designed and the solid wooden floors add a great touch.
The buffet was incredible and I am more than happy to say that we did not wait in any lines and there was plenty of yummy food.
The service was great, they could not do more for us. They were very friendly and helpful.
The only area I can fault is the pool area, this needs a bit of a renovation and the beach is quite small.
The Sheraton is located 15 mins from the airport and you do not hear a single plane, wherever you stay on Langkawi you have to take a taxi. We had the most fantastic time.

The resort is nice but here are a few items to look into before choosing to stay here.

1. Beach - for sand and sea lovers, i will not recommend this resort for you. The resort's beach area is divided into three sections which are all small. There is no long stretch of sand.
What i hate here is that the main beach (with the pool) tends to get way too crowded thus makes it difficult to look for your own spot. There are lots of rock formation in this area so watch your kids close when they swim in this beach.
For peace and quiet, the other two beach areas should be okay.

2. Pool - I find the resort's infinity Pool area too small for a 238 room resort. Do not go here on late afternoons to avoid the crowd. The pool looks better in the morning when it's clean and not crowded.

3. Location - No shopping and restaurants near the resort. Actually, its the only establishment in this part of the island. All you see outside is the road and more trees and monkeys. Don't believe the resort if they tell you that Oriental Village is walking distance (i made a mistake of believing them). But there is a taxi station nearby. It's not hard to get taxis in Langkawi. Fares are on fix rates and is cheap.

4. Since the resort is on a hillside, there are a lot of climbings you need to do when walking to/from the beach/pool areas and your garden rooms. Be sure you are up to the task. Consider children (their strollers) and elders travelling with you.

5. If you really love the starwood chains and is not on a budget, do book the seaview rooms. The superior rooms make you feel more that you are in a MOUNTAIN resort rather than a BEACH resort.

6. Proposals. The resort has perfect locations to have a romantic dinners best capped with your much awaited "will you marry me" line.

Generally, the resort should be okay. Not really that excellent or fabulous ... but, you can have a great experience with what the resort has to offer.

And yes, resort staffs are warm, friendly and accomodating. They attend to your every need. The different restaurants has good food and great ambiance. I had the best chicken i tasted in Malaysia so far in that restaurant just below the lobby.

The rooms are big. It is well lighted and has very nice interiors. It has a veranda where you can relax and breathe fresh air while watching a few species (i mean the monkeys, squirrels and lemurs) you don't see everyday.

However If i come back to langkawi again, i'd rather book to other luxurious resorts north of the island if its around rates as sheraton beach resort.
