“Langkawi is beautiful, Sheraton excellent choice”

We really like sheraton very much. The people so friendly and the service so good. Our room is very big and they clean a lot. The garden is so beautiful and we can see a lot of animals there like the birds and the monkey. The beach also nice and can make you relax when you sit and look at the water and can feel the wind in your face. The restaurant also nice and the food its good. The manager always walk around and come to talk to the guest. In the bar they have a good live music and the service is always smiling and sometimes they dance with you.. Its really nice. We don't have any problem and everytime we ask for something, someone always come to quickly give us information or help us. I like the people and I like the island very much. Langkawi is good choice and Sheraton is nice place to stay for holiday because the staff always make you happy. Good if you want to enjoy in our holiday.

Hi there and hope you will all have a chance to stay at the sheraton in Langkawi!! We had a great time there and mostly because of the peaceful surroundings, beautiful greenery and friendly staff. We come from hectic city, so we really weren't looking for anything else than peace and quiet. We chose sheraton because friends stayed there before couple of years ago. We weren't bored for a minute as we saw beautiful butterflies, flying foxes, hornbills..too much too mention. You should try having early breakfast on your balcony.. sound of the birds, you see the monkeys and flying foxes jumping from tree to tree. Really, we loved it. The staff was genuinely friendly and always ready to assist, they know your name...We did one tour in which you can lay in a sort of hammack, hanging in the water, dragged along slowly by a boat.. "that really makes you feel like "life is beautiful"..they;ll even serve you a drink while you're in the hammack..Too many nice stories, but it comes down to: excellent service and great location for a relaxing holiday, especially if you like wildlife and greenery. We choose sheraton and they didn't disappoint us.

  • Liked — greenery and wildlife. Friendliness of the people
  • Disliked — pool not so good compared to the rest of the hotel

Stayed at the sheraton after finding out that the pangkor laut and most and the westin were booked solid. made a reservation for a executive suite room over the phone and the net and it all started going wrong from that point on. firstly the reservations staff tried to insist that there is no pick up included though it was clearly stated in the package details. After managing to get her to agree that it is included and after confirming the same took the flight to langkawi and surprise surprise no pickup. caled the hotel and was first told that no pickup was offered after some insistence they apologised and said they would refund any taxi charge. After that our first sight of the property did not lift our spirits much. Had a smooth check in which was actually the most enjoyable part of the whole experience second only to checking out. Were escorted to the room in the prvt buses of the hotel which are actually a very charming touch. The rooms first impression was large comfy but a bit rundown. There is NO BEACH at the sheraton despite what some previous reviewers have written there is no stretch of beach what u seem to have is a tiny lil stretch of sand in front of the beach which the hotel insists is a beach. the pool is nice but nothing to rave about as such. The first room we had had a electrical failure the first night. After complaining about it the next morning and going out to see the local sights came back to see that issue still not resolved. And the hotel staff expected me to put up with the room and i had to actually insist on changing my room b4 they agreed. The bathroom door wouldnt open without alot of effort on our part. in room breakfast was substandard and to be honest i dont have alot of good memories of the place. One would be the walkway which is quite lovely at nights as u can forget the lack of beaches etc. the spa is good but would definately not stay at the hotel for it. food at the resteraunts is average hotel fare again hardly a compensation. We tried to ask the hotel for activities or something that we could do during our stay and again only reccomendations would be grossly overpriced hotel excursions which we wouldnt chance due to earlier experiences. Over all i would say that the sheraton group overall seems to be loosing sight of what people would expect from a sheraton property and are just out to squeeze dry any and everyone in sight. Oh and if u think u might as well just enjoy the room they seemed to be having intermittent cable transmission problems with the tv. And no dvds and a player are not provided for the guest there is another charge for availaing of the facility. So frankly they have managed to sabotage what could have been a great experience.

  • Liked — sprawling property and some nice touches
  • Disliked — everything else

My family and I stayed at this hotel from August 12 through 15, 2007. We had stayed at the Westin Langkawi the previous two nights.

What a difference.

Whereas the Westin was bright, clean and cheerful, the Sheraton was old and tired looking and badly in need of a major makeover.

Being a Gold member of the hotels preferred guest program, I had requested an upgrade at check-in, only to be told there was none available. We were assigned room 1212 which, in reading some of the orher reviews here about their rooms being "modern", must have been one of the very last to be renovated. The room was dark and dingy, and the faucet in the bathroom was loose.

The room is set quite higher than the pool area and there are steps leading down to the pool. The steps are slippery and after a rainfall, I slipped and fell on the steps. Do be careful, as the steps are steep and made of concrete. Even the floors - made of wooden planks - surrounding the pool are slippery.

I had a bad experience at the Sheraton Langkawi - totally out of character with the Sheraton brand. I would go back to the Westin any day, but not to the Sheraton.

  • Liked — Nothing
  • Disliked — The room we got was tired and worn down.

I just came back from Sheraton and I just simply could not agree what most of the writers commented about the hotel. I stayed with my family for four nights in the hotel and I found that the service was quite poor though I agreed that the room was spacious and with a sense of Malaysian culture in terms of interior design.

For dining, it is quite disapponted. The choice of breakfast and dinner buffet are almost the same. The so called BBQ was far from satisfactory. Choices were also very limited. It is so interesting why a 5 star buffet could provide some very simple vegetables as the main dishes for selection. I also have been waiting for a waiter/waitress to refill just a glass of water for more than half an hour. I almost needed to step into their kitchen to achieve such simple request.

I must say that it is a nice hotel with standard facilities but just simply not as described as most of the previous reviewers. Beach is horrible I may say, so I suggest the hotel officials not to mention this facility cox' it is really confusing.

My husband and i stayed here on the first part of our honeymoon. Although our room was lovely - large and private and very modern, and the staff were friendly, the hotel has no beach. We were disappointed by the 'club med' atmosphere of the pool area and you can't escape onto the beach because there isn't really one! We were also very surprised to find the water brown and murky - not at all tropical and rather like the channel! On a couple of days we went around the island towards the Datai and found the beaches and water here much nicer - white sand and clear water as we had expected. Overall, a nice hotel but not worth the money if you are specifically after a beach holiday.

We stayed here after a disastrous stopover in Penang, but luckily my faith in holidays was restored here. I recommend not mixing islands, go straight to Langkawi. This place was like a fantasy resort - stunning little hideway nooks and crannies, incredible attention to detail, breath-taking natural scenery, and scallywag little monkeys who steal your room service if you aren't careful. Staff were reserved but helpful. Actually my four year old got sick on the last day, after we checked out, and they couldn't do enough to help us, even gave us an beach towel to take with us because he needed a makeshift pillow. Just don't, I repeat, DO NOT, take the ferry here.

To be honest this review is a little old, so I can't exactly remember the room or the food... just those dreamy moments on our own private beach, reading books and looking for shells and sipping ice coffees. Two off-duty balinese masseuse girls wandered down to the beach to make sand castles with my four year old and giggle over his antics. My 8 year old thought a swimming pool with a bar, where he could sit and eat an ice cream, was the coolest thing ever. Personally I think the pool bar is just a bit yucky (like, how come those beer swilling guys have been sitting there for 4 hours and never gone to the toilet?), but still, it was all very cool.

We dream of going back!
