We had a lovely 7 night stay at the Berjaya, we initially stayed in a Jungle Studio for 6 nights and then I was treated to an upgrade to a Water Villa for the last night. Staff were very helpful and could not do enough to assist us. Restaurants were good, clean and had a reasonable choice, breakfast again was varied and had something for everyone. The pool was gorgeous as was the beach. The wildlife on the resort is amazing. We had monkeys in our balcony, huuuge lizards (i mean HUGE) and tropical birds all around the resort. The shuttles to take you to and from your room/spa/thai restaurant are regular and we never had to wait very long.. Anyway we were on holiday so not in a rush but the wait cannot have been longer than 3-5 minutes. Easy access to the cable car and oriental village from the resort - walking distance although a free shuttle from the hotel takes you there - tell the you are going to oriental village (them it's free!) then you only have the short walk back to the resort.

I feel as though I have had an amazing tropical adventure, one that I will never forget... Thank you Berjaya Langkawi!

Room Tip: Jungle studios are extremely spacious and would thoroughly recommend as most have been refurbished...

On our way from the airport the driver informed us that all of bollywood excluding sharukh khan stays at this property when ever they are in langkawi. N as soon as we reached we understood why.
The chalet we were staying in was the rain forest one(not the water) though u do get glimpse of the sea. The room looked a bit old and so did the bathroom. Also they gave us twin beds when we checked in instead of king bed...we had to get our room changed....i think the receprion lady shld have kept this in mind when checking in a married couple. The hotel is very well maintained otherwise.
The breakfast was great. We had all our meals in langkawi in the hotel....they arent as expensive for a 5 star hotel.
The cable car ride is a 5 min walk away from the hotel.
the swimming pool was nice and so was the hotel beach.
all in all a great place to be in.

I recently stayed at Berjaya Langkawi Resort for 4 days/3 nights. The resort is located in a nice, secluded area of the island, but is located in a close proximity to the Langkawi Cable Car (about a 3-5 minute ride from the hotel lobby). Overall, the resort itself is very nice and beautiful. There are a plethora of things to keep you occupied besides the pool and beach. It rained every single night we were there (we managed to get our pool/beach time in before the rain started as the morning/afternoon had beautiful weather), but there are board games, table games, nice bars with television, Play Station room, etc. to occupy guests during these times.

We had a rainforest chalet (6107) and loved every single thing about it. We were able to walk to the lobby/main parts of the resort without the need of the hotel shuttle service too often. The room is much larger in person than it looks on the pictures. The bathroom was my favorite part, with the nice shower and large bath tub.

The staff was nice throughout our stay, especially at the Reception, Beach Restaurant, and the Japanese restaurant. The food itself was just average in my opinion; it definitely could've been much better. I think the most disappointing part was the breakfast, which thankfully, we had only once on the day we checked out. Their pancakes, "French toast," waffles, etc., were all clearly from a box and they just heated them up the microwave or oven and served them directly. It would be pointless to even argue otherwise, as the size of the pancakes were all exactly the same, and everyone knows that homemade pancakes come out in different sizes. The best restaurants were the Beach Restaurant (their pasta and burgers were GREAT), and the Thai Restaurant.

There were just a few slight annoyances: 1) We went to the Thai Restaurant and were told we couldn't be accommodated until an hour and a half later without having a reservation by the hostess. As we were walking back, a waiter ran up to us and told us he could accommodate us, which we thought was very nice and we were greatly appreciative (I forgot his name). Interestingly enough, about 4 tables cleared during the hour and a half we were there and remained unoccupied for the rest of the evening so clearly the hostess wasn't interested in actually assisting. 2) The one night that we called for a shuttle, we waited for nearly 40 minutes without one arriving.

Room Tip: The chalets are farther from the main resort, (more than a kilometer away) so unless you want to wai...

This is my third visit to the hotel. My last stay was about 5 years back. I did have some misgivings when I read some of the negative reviews, but I decided to take a chance anyway.I love the environment there! Berjaya did'nt let me down. The management and its staff are as wonderful and friendly as ever. There is really nothing to complain about! Nesstled in a beautiful, tranquil setting ( Somebody mentioned postcard ), its truly paradise on earth. My sons age 3 and 8 and I would recommend this hotel anytime. There might be better hotels than Berjaya, but it suits me just fine. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: If you have problems climbing stairs, please ask for chalets with easier access.

Upon arriving at the Langkawi Airport we were greeted by a nice air conditioned Berjaya minibus, chilled water bottles & a fragrant cool towel. At MYR20 pp this is a great way to transfer to the hotel, however Taxis are also easy and available at a cost of approx MYR25
The resort is approx 30min drive from the airport, but a comfortable drive.

The reception staff are friendly and very quick in checking you in and lot's of smiles all around - nice touch of a complimentary fruit drink in the Lobby Lounge upon arrival.

We booked the Deluxe Room but after being in there for 10mins went back to ask for an upgraded room category.
The deluxe rooms are old looking, ancient air conditioning unit which looks dirty, bathroom is old and stained with cracked tiles and wooden floor is stained. The deluxe room is not what it looks like on the website pictures...

However, the Rainforest Chalet is! What a great room - newly refurbished, spotlessly clean & stain free and within walking distance to the lobby but the little shuttle buses they offer for getting around the resort do come in handy!

The bed was quite hard but that seems so be the norm in a lot of hotels around Asia.

So many dining options and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food - the Peking duck is a must at the Chinese restaurant!

If you go to Mizumi's (Japanese Restaurant in Oriental Village) make sure it's not a Monday as they do not open - we found out the hard way!

Happy hour is from 5pm to 7pm and is 30% off cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer & spirits - average cost for cocktail is MYR18 (AUD$6.00).

Room service likes to send whatever they feel like but pleasantly it always ended up being nicer than what we would've ordered anyway.

It is hard to book tours if there is only 2 people as most tours are min 4 ppl to book through tour desk - highly recommend Stardust Adventure Day Sail (MYR295pp) this is a all day cruise on yacht, great lunch and free flowing wine & beer!! Remember to take sunscreen.

There is a privacy and intimacy about the hotel that is unique & hard to find elsewhere - at times it felt like we were the only ones in the whole place! One night we dined at the Beach Restaurant for Dessert and there were only 1 other table occupied!!

The Spa is heavenly and reasonably priced for the service you get & the amenities - do arrive early to have a dip in their outdoor massive jacuzzi before your treatments!

The resort had it's faults & bungles but for the price you pay for the slice of paradise you get it's hard not to fall in love with Berjaya & the people that work there.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Rainforest Chalet or above - these had been renovated and were clean and spacious

This is a beautiful resort about 15 minutes away from the airport in a taxi (fixed rate of 24 ringitts). Almost all of the accommodation is in chalets on the hillside in the rainforest. The resort is undergoing refurbishment to upgrade the rainforest chalets, but this does not affect your visit as they have cordoned off such areas. This does mean that you get very modern and classy looking decor and surroundings. We booked a rainforest chalet through Thomson worldwide with half board option. This allowed us an excellent buffet breakfast each day and dinner allowance of 70 ringitts each per day which could be used at any of the resort restaurants. This was enough to allow us to eat 2 courses each at dinner. Main courses varied in price from 26 ringitts up to around 80 ringitts. Drinks were well priced at 11 & 12 ringitts for beer, cocktails and wine from 20 ringitts. Spirits with mixers were a bit more but were on offer at 14 ringitts during our stay. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend calling ahead and requesting a single chalet. Some of the chalets are doubles and have
adjoining doors, where the noise, if you have noisy neighbours carries through. We experienced this, and when mentioning it tot the reception staff, they moved us to another room without any fuss and problem, and even offered to send a shuttle bus and porter to help us move our bags. The staff here are very helpful and quick to assist you, nothing is too much trouble. We visited the spa at the end of our stay, which was amazing, excellent value for money and very relaxing.
Oriental village including the cable car and skybridge are a short walk away from the resort and there is even a shuttle bus provided by Berjaya.

Room Tip: If you're just a couple and only need one room, request a single chalet in advance.

We were very let down and disappointed by the way the management treated us at this hotel. We were insulted in a subtle manner, not so subtlely accused of lying and ultimately our needs and requests were ignored and discarded. As things stand our experience was such that we will never return to this particular establishment again and I would advise others to avoid at all costs. I will explain:

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We were traveling throughout southeast Asia on our honeymoon. Langkawi itself is truly lovely, as is the hotel itself and it's location. We had a cabin situated in the water. The suite was nice, not the most modern or amazing that we had seen but nevertheless good. The monkeys are very cool!

Problems arise at check in where the staff clearly ignore us because of our more casual dress than the usual middle age look. We are in our late twenties and early thirties and traveling casually just having arrived by ferry to the island. but we are looked down upon by some prejudiced staff. They sigh and resign themselves to having to deal with us. We were eventually checked in and led to our rooms.

The cause of our key ordeal takes place that evening at the seafood buffet. We each have two raw oysters. Note it's a buffet and I sadly disregarded the fact that perhaps I should not have trusted buffet style oysters which could have been out for a long period of time... But we felt the hotel would never leave oysters out for so long in a seemingly well run place. Also note that we and only a handful of guests actually had their dinners at this particular resort restaurant that evening. However by the next evening we were feeling ill. Fever, diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, nausea, sweating and rigors. The worst sick episodes in our lives. I have no doubt that it was directly attributed to those oysters. We saw the hotel doctor the next day. He refuted that it was food poisoning, he insisted it was the heat and that we needed to acclimate to the heat (after 1 month in se asia!) and gave us some electrolyte replenishment solution. Trust me when I say it was food poisoning, I am a medical doctor, a surgeon, but still able to ascertain that this was related to the oysters and not the heat as the hotel doctor had said! fortunately we did need the electrolyte solution regardless, but it was not a matter of heat stroke for sure. Also he claimed that we were the only ill guests hence it was unlikely. I explained that we were the only ones that had oysters that night. Anyway I did not want to argue with a colleague and I left shortly.

We spent the next two days recuperating in bed. We called to extend our stay as we were far to sick to travel, we also had to rebook our flight. We hoped at this point that the manager would give us a slight discount for our extra day as it was an unanticipated extra expense (of their causing i might add!). We were told initially that that would probably not be a problem. However on check out we were met by a slick manager who immediately assumed (perhaps because of our age?!) that we were out to scam them. He had a condescending, arrogant tone and we had an exchange where we truly held back from making a scene. With some people you just know that your conversation is just not going to lead to anything constructive. Being a real slick snake oil salesman he denied hotel responsibility for in any way not being up to standard with regard to food hygiene. He denied that an off chance error could occur. I mean I wasn't suing or even in that frame of thought, I was not interested in liabilty and stated as much. Then he insinuated that he was familiar with people who just wanted free nights etc and that he was a good judge of such things. We told him he was wrong and that we thought his way of carrying on business was not appreciated. He didn't care. I really disliked being accused of behavior that is so off the mark of who I am. We just wanted acknowledgement that we had been really sick in their hotel, on our honeymoon and probability would indicate that it was because of their food. Perhaps even a sorry that you were unable to enjoy your stay would have sufficed. Ultimately we settled the bill and left it at that.

Their attitude was not expected at what we thought was a customer service oriented resort. I hope it makes you all think twice about staying here and choose another of the many awesome places to stay on this amazing island. If you think for one moment that we were expecting or demanding too much, then you have no idea how it feels to be in our situation and you may not deserve more either. A little compassion and trust goes a long way even in the business of hospitality! Trust me you don't want to be kicked when you are lying down and that's exactly what the management of this place did to us. Perhaps if the hotel is taken over by a new courteous, customer oriented company we can reconsider a return or alternately if they can truly revamp their shell of pseudo polite service to something with true depth and meaning we can lay this business behind us. But odds are against any of that happening, so we won't be back.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs!
