“Excellent stay....really looked after us and spolit our 10 mth old baby”
Reviewed 5 September 2010

We stayed at the Berjaya for 9 nights. We were a little concerned because some of the negative reviews but the resort excellent...we loved it. We stayed in the Rainforest Studio and it was exactly as described on the website. The housecleaning lady was efficient and extremely friendly. Our check in and check out was fast, the staff were friendly and breakfast had a great selection...We travelled with our 10 month old and she had a blast. The staff loved her and she loved the attention. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are there to relax and slow down your pace. Yes it's a little isolated but it has a pool, private beach, great range of restaurants, close to the cable car and close to a mariner which has a fantastic Tapas Spanish restaurant......

We flew to Malaysia for our honeymoon. After a long flight and two hectic days in Kuala Lumpur we were badly in need of peace and quiet and the island of Langkawi was calling us. We had read mix reviews of the Berjaya and didn't know what to expect but this resort exceeded our expectations.

We stayed half board in a chalet based in the rainforest. This was fantastic value for money. It was quite an experience living for two weeks in amongst the wildlife but one we would never change. There was never a dull moment thanks to some surprising visitors (monkeys), noises (bullfrogs) and sightings (the dusky leaf monkeys - just beautiful.) The resort is handy for the Chinese Village and Cable Car and both are well worth a visit.

We hired a car from the Berjaya to get around the island and this seemed to be an easy way to get about as the roads are quite. Our favourite trip was the Mangrove which is a must-do and as we hired a car we went there ourselves and paid for a private boat. We preferred this option as it's more personal. Our guide was great and knew the nature reserve well. The other option is to go on an organised tour.

We also went island hopping. Again this is a great way to see more of Langkawi and the surrounding islands. We went on an organised trip via the hotel and it was a great afternoon out. Well worth the money.

The staff at the Berjaya were wonderful, extremely friendly and helpful. The bar was a godsend refreshing and cold on those extremely hot and humid days. We had breakfast every morning in the main restaurant which had a huge selection of food for all nationalities and we often ate dinner in the Beach Bar or the main restaurant which had a different themed buffet every night. We just could not fault the choice and selection of food on offer. The range of desserts was also an eye opener which we tried to avoid after having filled our boots but we often gave in and thought it would be rude not to!!

We truly had an amazing honeymoon and it all thanks to the Berjaya and the island of Langkawi. We left with plenty of fond me

This was our third trip to Langkawi after previous visits staying at the Westin and the Sheraton, we though that staying up in trees with the wildlife would be fun. The website is amazing and really sells the hotel,we booked a rainforest chalet and was upgraded to a rainforest studio yes they are new,so go for them, the older rooms are in bad condition as other reviewers have stated. The staff are overall not friendly they all seem very lethargic and tired and everything is way too much effort- the managers for our weeks stay or even supervisors were never seen not once maybe this is the problem!
The housekeeping staff did an amazing job, this resort is huge I mean really huge and really hilly and the staff have to drag around so much just to do their job but nothing in our room was forgotton in the whole week - well done!
The pool is very small too small and crowded for a resort that big and the hours it is open do not provide flexibility for responsible adults on a resort holiday, the main buffet restaurant The Dayang and the lobby need a major overall, old and sticky, very unappealing. They are both dark and dreary depressing and have no views
The dining highlights were the Thai restaurant over the water lovely setting very special and the beach cafe right on the sand and the food was great
The hotel is isolated as most of them are so get a hire car cheap and safe and fun
Please note in the rooms there is not enough hot water ever to fill the bath so that was a waste and the water pressure is dreadful, the shower door would not shut either
The porters like the restaurant staff cannot be moved into action to help you so prepared to be laughed at
The breakfast buffet was really poor for a hotel of this standard, no healthy varieties or low fat milk, when asked staff said that this could not possible be provided, only kids cereals like rice bubbles, and nothing special that you would look forward to trying-- these areas need immediate improvement.
The staff on the information do not speak good enough engligh to talk about the tours options- I thought that was odd
So overall choose carefully if you get a new room and do not care about breakfast and the pool this could be the place for you, oh and we were looking forward to seeing lots of wildlife but we hardly saw any although I am sure it was there somewhere
Suggestions for alternative food choices would be Charlies Place for happy hour 3-7pm and great food with an exceptional water view and service and the Lighthouse at Cenang Beach also the Suncafe fantastic

This resort has a very nice location and a fantastic reception area. The pool area and the Beach area are also very nice. The Breakfast is standard five star category buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. However the Rooms are in very bad state and are worse that rooms at standard B&B accomodations. The Chalet's have a wonderful location but thats all that is wonderful about the chalet. The Chalets are in a pathetic state and desperately need to be knocked down. The Room does not give the feel that you are staying in a star category hotel. The airconditioning is old and insufficient to make the rooms cool. The Hotel has a wonderful property but the state of the rooms is pathetic and i would not recomend this hitel unless they redo all their chalets.

We stayed in inter-connecting deluxe rooms, which are actually chalets in the forest. The rooms and furnitures are dated and not so modern, but I guess it added to the rustic feel of the chalets. The rooms are generally well kept and clean but the air-conds really need to be overhauled/replaced. Both leaked and although the maintenance came a few times to look and service them, they still leaked. After the 2nd day, we gave up complaining....we travelled with 3 toddlers, and the kids don't mind playing with a damp floor mat in between and we hated to move with so many things in tow. As the rooms are in a jungle, there were many insects and animals around, but thankfully no insects or lizards got into the rooms!

The hotel is great with vegetarians...the morning buffet line came with a small corner of vegetarian dishes. The Chinese restaurant has a special menu with vegetarian dishes which were delicious and that made my Mum very happy indeed.

the service over there in the hotel was great. the check in was fast (but you pay 2000 RM and
after you check out you will receive the money) we also got our welcome drinks (a punch drink some thing like that i don't remember) .
After we finished our drinks it started to rain as we were escorted to our rooms by a open air van.
we took the two deluxe chalet rooms which is good for families because it has adjustable door in between the two rooms.(also the deluxe room and some water chalets nearby are closer to the beach, swimming pool and the reception). we had a 20% view of the beach from the balcony and the other 80% view of the forest . The room was spacious with a two twin size beds and a sofa (which will be used for a triple guest in one room) and the other room had a king size bed both of the rooms were clean no insects, no lizards and no spiders.
well at night we were scared to seat in the balcony since its very dark and with the light on there is no difference. the bathroom was clean with complimentary amenities. it also has a bidet which was very useful. the beds were clean too.
The best thing about the chalet was the location. we didn't need to use the van to go to the beach, swimming or the reception the deluxe chalets are more closer to the activities in the resort.
i like the beach the most ; clean beach, light brown sand and quiet beach too. it had a nice view if you look back and see the mountains and hills when its about to rain. the clouds settles on the peak of the hill and a slit chance of seeing the cable cars from the beach.
the least i like was the reception its is an open air area i would prefer it to be a closed area since its a hot wet island and for the guest to wait to check in in a hot area and sweat until u get in your chalets.
well overall it was a very nice stay i would give it a 5 stars resort hotel and i would return to the same hotel in the future.
