We stayed here for a week and wished it were longer. From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful. We chose a sea front villa which was wonderful especially the outdoor shower. Pool(s)was great, plenty of lounges and the sea was gorgeous. There were jellyfish warnings but we swam every day with no encounters. The bar was a lovely spot to sip a cocktail (30% off before 7pm) and watch the sunset. We didn't eat at the resort, apart from breakfast which was adequate though nothing special, plenty of places to eat in town and the Indian restaurant next door was fantastic. Probably the only downside was the distance to town though cabs were cheap...about 8 ringgit each way. We would recommend this hotel and definitely stay again.

This resort is quite old and needs a little love, but as the price is reasonable it is fine.
The location by the beach is lovely and the walk into town is approx 1-2km which is flat and an easy stroll.
The meals at the resort are average and it is better to walk into town where there are some lovely well priced restaurants.
We hired a motorbike for the few days which allowed us to explore the island as there is not too much to do other than the beach.
Overall, a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front facing the beach are best.

My husband, sister in-law and I went to this resort over a weekend. We got a family room as it was a cheaper option, and surprisingly, the family room was really big. Lots of space although only 1 bathroom, and a noisy airconditionner which we managed to fix ourselves. The view from the room was not great, but the view from the restaurant and bar area is just great. It's one of those hotels where it's quiet and relaxing even if the beach is just there.
The staff was very helpful and nice (got free olives with my cocktail and another free welcome drink coupon as I had lost ours), although the food was not great and over-expensive. We did go across the road for some more simple and cheaper food, which was more adequate and easy. The hotel is perfectly located, only 15-20mins walk to "Underwater world" and shopping complexes, so you don't need to take a taxi everywhere you go.
We did bathe in the sea which was quite rough but a lot of fun with big waves. Not really recommended for small children but the hotel does have 2 swimming pools and jacuzzi. We weren't too sure about the hotel's commitment to CSR or environmental initiatives (recycling is too common..!) but at least there is something compared to other hotels we've been to.
We really enjoyed our stay and will probably come back soon!

Dear Camy,

We are glad that you and your family had a quiet and relaxing holiday. Also, we would like to thank you for your kind comments on our staff service.
Regarding your faulty air-conditioner, please help us by providing your room number so that we can make sure our maintenance team will fix the problem permanently.

Our CSR programs include sessions held on Pulau Tuba on how to reduce human impact on the environment with practical solutions. We also give back the proceeds from recycling sales to the staff as an incentive for them to help our business to be environmentally sustainable. Our work with the Make- A- Wish foundation of Malaysia enables us to provide holidays to underprivileged children who have terminal illnesses and their families.

We also share our award winning environmental education program with hundreds of student groups from local and international universities at zero cost. Our waste water system is able to convert grey water to grade-A drinking water which we use to water the plants. The waste water from our kitchens are filtered of food debris and oil which are the main pollutants of island tourist destinations.

To conserve earth resources, our showers are also heated by solar panels. The toilet flushing facilities are supplemented by rain water harvesting. We do understand that many hotels try to join the ‘green’ band wagon by having tree planting programs or ‘please reuse your towel’ signs but we try to do more than that.

If you do stay with us again, allow our environmental engineer to give you and your family a tour of our green initiatives done in-house at the hotel. This complimentary educational program is carried out 3 times a week with the resort guests and their children who would like to learn about how we reduce our carbon footprint.

Once again, thank you for sharing your comments with is and we look forward to your next stay with us at the Frangipani Resort!

The purpose of our short break was to relax and enjoy the sea - both were achieved over our long weekend but could have been better.

Overall as hotels go, it was a nice hotel. However as Malaysians, we expected more for our buck. I was later informed that the hotel's clientele are mainly from other countries which may account for our disappointment that the cost did not reflect the expected luxury. The rooms were clean and the facilities although basic were clean and satisfactory. To get to our rooms we walked through the HR dept building and storage facilities which is not an ideal scenario but the staff were polite and helpful and there were things to look at like the winter melon and herb garden. It was my second experience at an eco-friendly hotel so it was interesting to see the measures in place to save the environment. You can 'adopt' a tree or plant and it was good to read about the potential medical uses of certain plants in the herb garden.

Pros - the rooms were clean and airy, lovely beach and the water was clear and we enjoyed frolicking in the waters, the food and drink at the bar area were very good, particularly the local delicacies. The cocktails were also quite nice. :) We were disappointed that the hotel did not have a Saturday BBQ as is usual in Malaysian beach hotels, however we spoke to Ian (head chef) and he organised a special BBQ for the 5 of us at MYR90 (about £20) per person which we thought was fantastic value for money for a meal with lots of seafood as well as lamb and chicken. It is a pity that the restaurant is not more widely used by the guests as I thought it was one of the hotel's better assets. The staff were also very helpful and helped us arrange a taxi for our excursions around the island. It is also a short walk to local shops and restaurants if you prefer going out. It amused us to see MacDonalds wrappers in the bins when the restaurant served such good food. It is also quite easy to pop out and buy drinks from the shops across the road and I noticed some spas nearby although I did not sample any.

Cons - the pools were not particularly attractive and there was no drinks service at the salt water pool. The towel hut was also unattended on the 2 occasions we were at the salt water pool. You can only access the internet within the bar or reception area and it was patchy. If you fancy a walk outside the hotel, be careful as the pavements are not level. If you are a Malaysian, you may find the breakfast items on offer quite limiting and there was no 'nasi lemak'! The breakfast did seem to be targeted to non-Malaysian guests with only a couple of local specialties.

Finally, if you can get a chalet it is the better option. We were in the rooms at the back of the property and it was a bit of a walk to get to the restaurant and the pools. Of course the views were also quite limited.

Key question - would I go back? I don't know - although I believe in the eco ethos of the hotel, I felt more could be done for the guests to make it a great experience.

Dear Selvy K,

Thank you for the kind comments regarding our service and food.
We do apologize for the shortcomings of your stay with us. We will look into why the pool hut at the salt water pool was unattended to as there should be someone at all times there. If you could give us specific dates and times, it will assist us to pursue the matter with the operations team. We are in the midst of increasing our beach and pool area staffing as we are aware that guests would like to enjoy a cocktail on the beach while watching the sunset as opposed to only at the bar area.

Regarding our complimentary wireless service at the restaurant and lobby area, we are currently liaising with an internet provider to strengthen the connection . This should take place in the next couple of weeks.

The resort being stretched out over 400 metres of beach is double edged; our guests get more privacy and less of the hub bub you get when staying at a high rise hotel. However, distance to facilities would be more effort on the guest’s part. We do hope that the individual bungalows that dot our beach have served their purpose of providing you and your loved ones with the tranquility and relaxation that a beach resort offers.

The villa that you have occupied would be a garden villa which are surrounded by flowers, trees and plants that our landscaping team have designed. If you prefer views of the sea, may I suggest the beach villas which are right on the beach or are Royal Suites which have larger patios or balcony.

We are also happy to share with you that congee has recently been added to our continental breakfast menu so that our Asian guests will be able to enjoy a holiday with the spoils of dining at home.

Once again, thank you for your feedback which will help us continue striving to provide the quality services and facilities that make a holiday, a holiday.

I visited the resort with my family of two sons and my grand children. The resrt was ok nothing great .I have visited resorts world vide and also Goa but any ordinary resort in Goa are better than this resort. The swimming was too small .though they had two pools but it was definitely not to the standard. I wonder how it got an award
from trip advisor..
The food was very sub standard and hardly any choice for vegetarians.Luckily there are two restaurants just outside the resort 'Sagar' and 'Tulsi' which served
excellent food.
The worst part is that on the beach there is warning of jelly fish and advised not to swim .Hence there was no joy of swimming in the beach as there was always a fear of jelly fish which can cause you death if it bites you.
The staff was good and cooperative but they were not very conversant with English language.
I would not recommend Langkawi for a holiday.

Dear Anil K,

We apologize for not meeting your standards during your stay at the hotel. We thank you for sharing your constructive comments regarding the resort and we shall use them as points to work on.

However, we are surprised to hear your comments regarding the swimming pools too small and about our staff having insufficient English language skills as it is the first time that we are hearing about it. The award from Trip advisor was under the Travellers Choice category for Malaysia’s top 25 Rest and Relaxation resorts in Malaysia. We are sorry that you feel otherwise.
As for the jellyfish warnings, it is our duty to inform our guests whenever there are high numbers of jellyfish in the sea. This is something all resorts in Langkawi face seasonally. We do not want our guest’s vacation to be marred by painful stings or hospitalization.

Regarding the vegetarian meals, we are currently in the progress of expanding our vegetarian menu as we are aware of how hard it is to be a vegetarian travelling on the go. We are thinking of adding options such as chickpea burger and Portobello mushroom burgers with spiced yoghurt sauce and caramelized onions and salad as additions to our vegetarian options.

We are sorry that Langkawi and our resort did not meet your expectations and we do thank you once again for which we will use to better ourselves so that we can provide a better holiday experience to our future guests.

We were a little surprised at the amount of Arabic holiday makers staying in Langkawi, many chatted with us, quite a few seemed to be on their honeymoon. The Frangipani Langkawi Resort proved to be very popular, although meal times stretched the staff on wet mornings as we all seemed to hit the restaurant at the same time.
The rooms were quite clean and tidy; the whole place looked like it has had a facelift recently. This is perhaps one of the cheaper integrated resorts on the island, but was fair value for money.
The restaurant served excellent lunches & dinners - breakfast was a little ordinary!
The resort has a recycling program that is very noteworthy, we actually met the gardner who showed us around the "back end" of the property with so much pride! Absolutely fantastic. This then flows across to the restaurant as much of the produce comes from their own organic gardens.
The staff are all part of a program that rewards recycling and going those extra steps for their work roles. Again this is obvious in the general attitude of almost everyone you chat with; from the General manager down. A very different stay that was enjoyable; the beach front with the para gliders sailing past was a great place for an evening drink!

Room Tip: Possibly worth paying a little more for one of the beachfront villas; however we really didn't s...

We were looking for somewhere to relax by the beach and have access to some nature experiences as well as different culture. This was perfect for us. The green commitment at the hotel was a plus for me too. I loved the frangipani and lemon grass in the gardens used for tea, organic ingredients; not to mention the clean, peaceful atmosphere, recycling, low energy use and onsite water treatment. We upgraded to the beach view villas which gave us a magnificent view over the water from our porch, especially at sunset. (The jet skis and para sailing were bearable in the bay.) Having our own private garden shower was special though simple. We found the staff very friendly and happy to provide for us. The restaurant, bar and surrounds were what I imagine an island resort to be, relaxed, breezy and some outdoors. The tours service provided friendly advice that suited our needs exactly. All this and a short walk to the restaurants, bars and markets of Pantai Chenang. We would go again!

Room Tip: The Beach view villas or even other rooms near the salt water pool
