It was our first time to Langkawi and we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful setting and peaceful surroundings. The staff were very friendly and the layout of the hotel (detached and adjoined villas) surrounding the central area was great! Our only mistake was to book the cheapest accommodation which was still OK but would pay more for better next time. The food was very good, the gardens are well tended and the pool was clean. There was also plenty of space along the beach to lounge in peace. Wonderful!

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights the week before christmas. As stated in another review, the room was warm when we entered and very dark. There is very little shade around the pool or in the grounds and the pool was dull and uninteresting. There breakfast was good but if you eat outside which is unavoidable sometimes, birds steal food from your plate when you go to get a refill. Generally not impressed.

We had a really mixed time at this resort, some things about it are great but ultimately the attitude of the management is pretty poor and much of its infrastructure is tired which is why I gave it two stars, not three. The good things - walking distance to lots of great restaurants, shopping etc, not too far from the airport, lovely beach setting with two pools (one salt water), good breakfast buffet and the high end rooms, the garden villas, are very nice. So what went wrong for us? We booked a standard room and were appalled at what we got when we arrived - stained bath tub, rattly air con that didn't work properly and no fan in the room, and an electrical socket that was not fitted properly, two stars at best. General shabbiness like this was also found in other parts of the resort, such as cracked concrete paths that had been retouched badly or peeling paint on buildings. Our room had a connecting door through which we could hear our neighbors so we decided to upgrade to a garden villa the next day, explaining to staff that we would do so due to worries about noise especially as we have a young son. What they neglected to tell us was that from 9 or 10pm onwards a local nightclub blasts out music till 4am and our room was right across from this. One hellish sleepless night later I spent an hour complaining to very unsympathetic staff, then management who all claimed they were surprised by the noise complaint and kept trying to fob me off about this problem. Funny that when the man on night duty had known exactly what I was talking about (incidentally he showed me another standard room that night and when I asked about the horrible mould smell he said it was a room smell spray they used?). The next day we moved into a garden villa at $50 extra a night which was very good and were given a very small token discount after I had demanded it. There we Could just hear the music but it was bearable and we could sleep. The quality of this room was what we had expected from our holiday but we couldn't forget our dreadful first night and the bad customer service we received which meant it wasn't the relaxing holiday we had hoped for.

We stayed at the Frangipani in late January 2011 just before our Wedding at The Andaman. we had family from the UK and Australia stay here with us also. Each staying in different types of rooms, booked through various websites.

I'm surprised to read reviews that the price was the same as The Andaman, etc, as we paid about half the price here! as you should, as the quality is not 4star (as mentioned in other reviews, even though advertised as this).

The pool is rather small, but the jacuzzi's make up for it. the beach directly in front of the beach bar is idyllic and you can't beat the sunset here. Not much water sports here, compared to Pentai Cenang (where more of our friends stayed).

The service was excellent, it is an Eco-Friendly resort, this was great to see recycling, and the in-house farm etc. Information about the resort and eco-development in the area is availalbe in your room.

The rooms need a bit of refurbishing, but were good enough for a basic beach resort.

I would not recommend going here if you want luxury, 4star accommodation or service. But you get what you pay for.

It worked well in groups.

We hired a car from the airport for MYR 50, US$15 / day! (this is the smallest car you can get, but still fits 5 adults!, no luggage mind you)

we all enjoyed The Frangipani, keep in mind Check In is at 3pm. If you arrive early, plan to go and Do something else for a few hours whilst your room is being prepared.

Happy Hour everyday from 4 - 7pm! was great down at the beach bar with fiance and friends. The food here is also very good.

We booked a half day boat island hopping tour from the front desk - they picked us up and dropped us off on the beach right in front of the resort! fantastic, half a day for MYR400! (for 10 people), ask for 'Mary'.

We were in Malaysia recently and decided to visit Langkawi whilst we were staying in Penang. We were looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel to end our holiday with and we were recommended the Frangipani Resort. I checked Trip advisor and the reviews were reasonable and the Frangipani website shows beautiful pictures of the resort and the private beach. We decided to book online and stay at the Frangipani rather than the 5 star hotels on the north of the island for the same price (500RM/ just over £100 per night) as it was difficult to see how far away they were and we thought we might be a little isolated. Big mistake!
The Frangipani, although welcoming, is certainly not a four star hotel and should not be charging the equivalent. Our room was not ready when we arrived and we were asked to wait in a small drab reception area. The bar is by the beach and we had to trek out there to get a drink, there was no offer of drink service in reception. We explored the hotel facilities which were in severe need of a re-paint and the wood needed retreating, the bar and surrounding areas looked shabby and uncared for. The private beach was just an area of the main beach- Patai Chenang leading into Patai Tengah and many motorsports whistle up and down here leaving it unpeaceful. The private beach was clean but grass growing through it making it look uncared for and the sunbeds were old and some broken. The pool was very small and there was no landscaping around the pool area which made it look plain and uninteresting. Building work (possibly an extension to the hotel) was going on next door to the room we had been allocated.

We stopped for a beer as we had been waiting over an hour for our room, which was delivered warm. At this point we made the decision to seek a hotel elsewhere as we didn’t want to end our holiday in this disappointing environment, but it took the Frangipani 2 hours to consult the cancellation policy while we were left waiting with more warm beer. After much prompting eventually they told us we would have to pay for the whole stay. We managed to negotiate this to 1 night’s stay which was 500RM per night (over £100!). My feeling is that the Frangipani was advertising itself as a 4 star hotel on some sites and brochures and although I’m sure it’s a very nice hotel for some people it was nowhere near our experience or expectation of 4 star hotels in Malaysia, yet it was charging a hefty similar rate for something it was not. On this basis we feel we should have been refunded our full payment considering we hadn’t even stepped into our room at this point and it was only mid afternoon.

We hired a car at the airport for a very reasonable price roughly £20 a day (highly recommended) and Langkawi is a relatively small island – north to south in about half an hour. The Andaman Hotel had been offering rooms at the same price so we checked in there and it is simply paradise! For the same money (if booked in advance) you can experience a real private beach with unrivalled peace and quiet. Everything is high quality, service, rooms and facilities all maintained to a high standard. You won’t regret staying at the Andaman or Tenjung Sanctary or the Sheraton (also similar prices) but after reading this review you will always know that if you stay at the Frangipani, there is something a million times better for your money.

The Frangipani is surely the best located beachfront resort on the island. It occupies a lovely stretch of beach (although the water was murky while we were there) and is a short walk to restaurants and shops or Pantai Cenang, which is about 10 minutes walk. We did this walk a couple of times a day without too much complaint from the kids! Fortunately, given the murky ocean, the resort pools are lovely and never seemed crowded. In contrast, we thought the larger, big-name resorts all seemed relatively isolated. Our Sea View villa with extra bed comfortably slept us all and was about the size of a large hotel room. Only complaint was a very noisy fan and airconditioner. We would happily stay here again.

Very nice hotel. Liked the way in which the chalets and two storey blocks of rooms were spread out. Great beach and views, although we did not personally see one I believe the location would let you experience some romantic sunsets.
Room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Staff were very friendly and extremely willing to serve. We really enjoyed the food in the restaurant and would recommend the Frangipani Fritters as a starter. The group that performed every night were very good and realy made our evenings.
The hotel is in a good location, and there are plenty of good restaurants, bars and small supermarkets close by.
