“A comfortable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014

The resort is located on an island with no other property so it's a quiet place to spend a vacation. The beach is small and does not get any waves so it's not much fun to swim in but the pool is nice. The sea is rather murky and not very clean but that is not something the resort can be blamed for. The buildings are rather old and the TV reception was not great and the selection of channels was limited but anyway we spent most of our time outdoors so it did not matter much. The hotel has an activity desk which organizes tours and watersports etc. Probably more expensive than exploring on our own but we found it convenient. The service was good. The food was acceptable but not great. The last ferry back from the mainland is at 7.45 PM which does restrict your options in terms of having dinner anywhere else. Overall a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: The view does not really matter. Choose by size and cost.

Having been to Langkawi numerous times and done all the touristy stuff, just wanted a place to rest and relax this round. Rebak Island Resort was perfect and met all our needs.

The pickup from airport was smooth. The driver drove us to the Langkasuka port which was only a 3 minute drive away from the airport. We had to do a little waiting at the port because the ferry to Rebak Island departs every hour or so. (Attached a picture of the ferry schedule so that others can plan their journey).

The resort was fantastic. We fell in love with the place the moment we arrived. Check in was smooth, the staff were friendly and courteous.

Stayed in the deluxe suite with the garden view. The room was huge and exceeded all our expectations. Bathrooms were spacious and tastefully designed. The beds were extremely comfortable.

The resort has a long and nice beach with stunning scenery around it. We loved the moondeck! You can even arrange for a romantic dinner to be served on the moondeck but it comes at a price. The views during sunrise are better as the sun sets on the other side of the island.

There are quite a lot of things to keep you occupied on the island - lazing around in the hammocks, kayaking during high tides, swimming, nature walks, table tennis, board games.. all free of charge. There are live bands and movie screenings on certain nights as well.. Saw a squash court, tennis court and gym but didn’t get a chance to try it out. Wifi is reliable and available throughout the resort.

The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of asian and european food. Food was great as well. But for other meals, food can be rather expensive (as you would expect from a resort like this). We had our other meals in Langkawi island instead.

The only downside about the resort is the last ferry back to the resort leaves Port Langkasuka at 7.45pm. If you want to stay out longer, you would have to arrange for a boat from the resort which comes at an extra cost.

All in all, a great place to rest and relax. But if you are looking for night life and late nights out, this is not the place for you.

Cut-off from the world, sit, relax and enjoy the resort facilities. If you are looking for an adventure, then you are in a long place, but if you are looking for a relaxing holiday then this is the place to be. I was here on a company off-site trip where various team building exercises were organised. Great fun and activities could be done on this huge place.

We travelled as couple and stay for 3 days 2 nights in deluxe one room suite. We were picked up from Langkawi airport by the airport transfer arranged by the resort and took a ferry to the resort for about 15 minutes from the jetty.
Overall review of this trip can be described as below :
Room is clean, spacious and well equipped.
Staffs are polite, friendly and professional.
Environment is comfy, quite and relaxing
Food is excellent but a bit pricy.

This is a beautiful island resort with rustic charm and huge potential at a really good price, but there were a few rough edges that downgraded the experience a little

Arrival and check in:
Easy transfer from airport - the hotel staff will meet you and drive you a few minutes to the jetty and then you take a boat to the island. You do feel like James Bond, arriving in a boat at your private island paradise. The trip is less than 15 minutes, and you arrive at a marina full of sailing yachts. The hotel itself is a short walk or ride in a golf cart and then you find yourself in a beautiful lobby, shaded but still open to the elements. This is very tastefully decorated and fitted out in dark wood. You are then given a welcome drink, and the staff are very friendly, although not that efficient, and making yourselves understood is occasionally difficult. Make sure you print out your reservation, as this was a confusing experience all around having to find ours on email without yet having access to the internet because we hadn't checked in...!

Room:
Really lovely dark wood furniture - feels very authentic. Very spacious and beautiful ocean view. Enormous bathroom/dressing area. Bed huge and reasonably comfortable. This place has obviously been upgraded recently, as everything is freshly painted and there are new TVs etc, but the fittings are still a bit old, so be prepared for not quite five star quality

Beach:
Right on doorstep. Very quiet and private, despite being on flight path as so close to airport (probably about two flights per hour). Clean, but not huge and not perfect white sand, although that's being very fussy. Lots of sun beds and shades, nice pool although not massive. Swim up bar, with good selection of juices and mocktails, which are actually a lot better than the alcoholic versions. Slightly erratic service. They advertise wet towels and fruit being passed around. We had fruit once out of eight days, and never saw wet towels, except our own when it rained. There was even one day where no towels were available at all and the pool closed signs had not been removed because the pool attendant had not shown up. This doesn't detract from the beauty of place, but not all as promised....

Food and drink:
The food is good and reasonably priced and a reasonable variety. Only one restaurant, but food also available at the beach bar and at the beach grill during the day. Go to the breakfast - a huge array of Western and Asian specialities, both hot and cold and some cooked to order, all for a good price. The Beach grill for lunch is well worth it. They have a selection of freshly caught fish and seafood on display and they grill it for you there and then. Delicious. Also worth going to are the cooking demonstrations available on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays at 12pm. Great opportunity to learn about Malaysian cooking and sample the food for free. There is also a harbour shop in the marina and a restaurant there for snacks. Room service arrived a little cold and took a long time, and was not quite what we ordered, but was a change and we could eat on our terrace.

Don't expect an amazing array of alcoholic beverages. There is a long list of cocktails but they are not strong and are all pretty sweet and fruity. There seem to be two types of wine of each colour, and even then you may end up with white wine when you asked for red. Beer is a good and the cheaper option. The happy hour bar on the beach between 6 and 8pm is lovely, and gives a rhythm to the day, and fills up fast, especially with yacht people from the marina.

Activities:
The main point of this place is tranquility, and it is a great place to just relax on your own section of paradise. The wildlife is good too - a few colourful birds can be spotted. The nature trail is not that amazing, and it's not possible to walk around the whole island on your own. We did manage to find our way to a nearby beach, but was over a rickety bridge and the beach, although deserted, was full of rubbish.

The in-house activities are good - we enjoyed the cooking demos and the kayaking. There is also tennis, volleyball, squash and a spa, as well as guided nature walks

There is also a huge array of activities that can be booked at reception - from snorkelling to diving, jet skiing, mangrove and island trips. The diving trip we did was great and good value for money, and can highly recommend a trip of the main island with your own taxi driver for the day - we saw masses of things and had an insider's knowledge to help us

Overall:
Amazing natural beauty, very peaceful and rustic. Plenty of charm, but just falls short of being absolutely perfect.

Room Tip: Ocean-view best. Perhaps avoid block 10 where we were because next to the staff's outdoor common...

I had the great pleasure of staying for 5 nights with my wife on Rebak Island while on holidays in Langkawi in May – and we thoroughly loved the experience.

Of particular note were the staff and their attention to detail. They were friendly, always happy to engage in conversation and they were quick to take initiative when they saw that we were in need of something. On our last night, we even returned from dinner to find our bed adorned with flowers and other decorations – quite a lovely touch.

Rebak itself is quite a small resort (full capacity around 95 rooms), which suited us just fine. In many larger resorts there is a tendency to ‘get lost’ amongst the crowds and to have to ‘compete’ for space around the pool etc. However this was not the case on Rebak. Several days we had the pool (and the pool bar) all to ourselves in the middle of the day.

Also, it should be understood that Rebak is not a full 5 star resort. If you are the sort of traveller that is used to the best of everything then Rebak may not be for you. Instead it’s a high quality 4 star resort. Very clean, very comfortable and very quiet.

The food was nice enough but nothing out of the ordinary. Our first night we ordered room service which was a little disappointing, but after that we ate in the restaurant every night and the food was just fine. Breakfast was a good selection – again not exhaustive, but quite enough. There is also a seafood BBQ / grill offered on the beach each afternoon. What would have been great, would have been to be able to enjoy this as an extra option for an evening meal instead of only having the main restaurant to rely on. We certainly would have taken up that opportunity.

By way of warning, if you are the type of traveller who likes to be on the go and exploring cultural icons, then Rebak is not for you. If however, you want to drink $AU7 cocktails, read books, swim and sleep in, then book in right now!

The main island of Langkawi is just a short boat ride away, but to be quite honest once we arrived we didn’t want to leave. There are many spots to ‘escape’, including your room balcony, the pool, a small library area, the beach or the large spacious reception foyer. You can also take nature walks and see the amazing hornbills.

We simply loved it.

For us there were only three very minor negatives.

1. Recreational activities. Once we arrived we learnt that activities such as eight ball, kayaking, tennis etc all came at an additional fee. While we may not have taken part in many of these even if they had been free, for the price we were paying we had assumed it would all be included.

2. Cost. Having been in Khua Town prior to arriving, we noticed the sharp jump in cost for food and beer etc. Still cheap by Aussie standards and to be expected on a resort island, but still took some getting used to! A small tip is that there is a small shop at the Marina that sells beer and snacks at main island prices.

3. The planes. Not at all a problem for me as I love the sight and sounds of planes flying overhead, but if you are a light sleeper or averse to loud noise from time to time, this may be a factor for you.

So would I recommend Rebak Island. Absolutely!

Lovely resort though the rooms looked a little tired. Liked the idea that it is away on a private island so it was nice and quiet (which meant we could still get away from the screaming babies and loud adults when the need arises)

Service staff were really kind and friendly and the food was ok.

Enjoyed the pool bar and the lovely nature walk around the island.

Overall a good and enjoyable experience. will return again.

Room Tip: sea view room was great as we get to wake up to a lovely sunrise!
