Having stayed in the tree house in December last year and liked it very much, my partner and I decided to book the same again this time in July 2011. Booking with the hotel was done in May 2011, reply received, deposit paid and booking was confirmed promptly. We did ask for the Standard Tree House FACING the sea (2 standard tree houses sharing a ladder, so one is facing sea and the other slightly to the left) but was told it is first come first serve basic during check in. So we prayed...
We arrived at the hotel around 1.30pm on a Saturday; the check in was smooth and we got the same tree house which is facing the sea called Meranti! We were so delighted that we got to stay in the same room and needed no help to find the room ourselves. During the short walk to the room, we noticed some renovation going on for the Beach Front room where BIG GLASS window was replacing the previous wooden window which I thought was a brilliant idea! We did try the beach front room for 1 night last time and it was nothing special. But now with the glass window with curtain, one can enjoy the amazing sea view from the comfort of the chalet!
So, we got into Meranti and were pleasantly surprised that it has undergone some minor renovations too! The bathroom is cleaner and has more bath amenities, toilet paper is covered so that it wont get wet during shower, hot/cold shower is good and powerful. This time, the lights at the balcony worked well (they did not work last time and we did not complain cus it was only for 1 night) which was important as we loved the balcony with the amazing view! The safe was not working well, called the reception (no phone in room, called from my mobile) and the maintenance guy came 5 mins later and got it fixed. The mini fridge was working well and so was the kettle. Coffee/tea with sugar/creamer was sufficient. Our neighbour next tree was not too close to our tree so we did not experience any unwanted noise from our tree house, only the sound of beautiful waves outside.
The only thing that freaked me out was the storm on 2nd night, it was so so scary that I thought the roof was going to be blown off or tsunami was coming! The roof did leak a little but nothing major. The housekeeping cleaned our room everyday without prompting and refilled all used items.
Warning for those with large suitcase (but most people go to Langkawi with backpacks), you would have to drag your large heavy bags up to the stairs. As others have stated, the service stops at the front desk and you are on your own. Free wifi in the lobby and no breakfast but plenty of food nearby. There is an indian restaurant at the lobby, tried it once, not bad but wont try again cus it's pricey.
For RM200/night for the Standard Tree House, my partner and I would surely return to the place again. It may not be the best value in terms of facilities but for the uniqueness and that amazing one of the kind view, it is worthy! In fact, we plan to return to the resort in December this year, and will try the Deluxe Tree House for extra RM30. But there is only one Deluxe tree house, so I guess advance booking is needed.
Tip: the deck chairs at the beach are RM10/chair but they are yours for the whole day. Just leave your old towel on the deck if you want to leave the beach and nobody would take it. We did leave the chairs for like half a day and found them intact when we returned in the evening.
Tip: try Sunset BBQ Cruise with Stardust, it's amazing!
