“Just like staying with family”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

We stayed for 3 nights at the Amin cottage during the Hari Raya celebration. The owner Maria is a very special lady who welcomed us like family. Fox Hill is in the middle of a peaceful countryside with views of lush green hills and rice paddies, far far away from the hustle and bustle of Pantai Cenang the main beach area. We enjoyed daily excursions with the car rented from Fox Hill - the island is not big and everything is within 30 mins driving distance. We would drive around for meals and tourism and relished coming back to the peace and calm of the property. The garden is well maintained with beautiful flowers and not so many mosquitos - we didn't get bitten at all. The pool area needs some work but is perfectly fine for a dip. The cottage is super charming and clean with nice sheets and towels. It is dark inside (which is how they are supposed to be, probably to keep cool in the heat) but there's plenty of outdoor spaces to hang out. There are a few gentle cats around.

We only took the Mangrove tour arranged by Maria but there seemed to be other activities she can arrange for guests. And she can probably recommend public beaches to go to. Or, what we did was stay at a beach resort a few days first and then relocate here for a completely different experience, which worked out really well for us.

Wow, where to begin. Fox Hill is a truly special place in a lovely part of the world.
We came here with our two small children, aged 2 and 3: looking for somewhere luxurious yet authentic, and somewhere that welcomed families with kids but wasn't a big hotel complex. We were collected at the airport by Fox Hill's owner, Maria, a truly special lady with a big laugh and bottomless knowledge. The kids fell in love with her instantly, and we did too :-)
The huts are gorgeous: authentic Malay huts, but with every comfort laid on, well spaced apart in the gorgeous rolling tropical gardens of Fox Hill. The swimming pool is a good size and spotlessly maintained. You wake up in the mornings to the sound of birds and monkeys whooping in the trees behind the property: pretty special!
Don't be fooled by Fox Hill's distance from the tourist hotspots of Langkawi: it's close enough to some of the best beaches, night markets and towns, and its central location means you can explore different parts of the island without being tied to just one area. The cars provided by Fox Hill are top quality, so it's a great place to explore from.
Finally, no review of Fox Hill would be complete without mentioning the food: delicious breakfasts: cereals, toast, yoghurts, pancakes to die for, and addictive Nasi Goreng. Make sure you take advantage of the evening meal laid on by Maria and her super-gifted cook Tuti: mindblowing Malaysian candle-lit banquets laid out on a long table under the stars: curry fans eat your heart out!
I can't recommend Fox Hill enough: we stayed for a week and all wished we'd stayed longer. It's a truly special place of the sort you don't often stumble across these days: authentic and personal, with a good sprinkling of luxury thrown in. Go - you won't regret it!

Title of my review is no exaggeration, to believe me you have to come and experience this place. After lot of searches, reading reviews on TA and interacting with property managers we finalised our stay at FOX HILL. Me and my wife along with my son and daughter were here to celebrate our Silver Jubilee Marriage Anniversary. This being our maiden foreign trip, planned entirely on my own, I was a bit apprehensive. The moment we stepped in the premises I felt as if we have hit a jackpot. All my apprehensions vanished the moment we met Maria, the master of Fox Hill orchestra. Maria,a middle aged, graceful lady with such a powerful aura makes you feel at home at once. We talked briefly on varied topics but hardly business. I got a feeling that she is in this business ( If I may call it business) not for money but as a passion. I didn't find too many people running around to maintain the complex but found every leaf at their place.
We stayed in Hill House a two room set Malay House built completely in timber. Behind the house was thickly vegetated hill but surprisingly no insects or mosquito presence. The complex is spread over approximately five acres of lush green land on the slopes of the adjoining hill overlooking the vast paddy fields. A dream place to celebrate our Anniversary. On 30 Jun, our Anniversary day Maria had to leave for KL for some medical issues but before leaving she had tied up everything right from Car rental, Mangrove Tour, Cake for the occasion Candle Light dinner in the evening. Zaid's wife ( sorry I am not able to recollect the name of ever smiling gracious lady) dropped in to help him prepare and lay our dinner table, in spite of their fasting for Ramjan. They even delayed their evening prayers for our sake.
We had a great time at Fox Hill. My wife was pleasantly surprised the way everything was meticulously executed. Thanks Maria and her team for making our Anniversary so very special.
A tip for the readers.Be there to experience the beauty and charm of the place and the people there.

Fox Hill - Away with the fairies.
It was a wonderful experience. It reminds me of Ubud so very much. So glad I chose Fox Hill over any other resorts for my 6 days 5 nights stay. The location...owh my...splendid! Surrounded with the lush greenery and breathtaking view of the rice fields. Sorry, no beach at walking distance or any other happening places to entertain you at night. This place is right in the smack of the local villages and that is the beauty of it. Tranquil and serene from all sides.

Room comes with breakfast and meal can be cooked and served upon request. The amenities in the room is so complete! Don't worry if you left behind your holiday story book at home. Fox Hill got plenty for you. Don't forget to make friend with the resident cats. They are so adorable and sweet.

It takes probably 15 minutes to Cenang Beach and 15 minutes to Kuah town. Advisable to have transport during the stay. To move around u can rent a car from the resort or a motorbike like I did from the nearest beach; Cenang. Go explore the magical Langkawi island and the stunning Ulu Melaka area. You gonna love it!

I will always remember this trip!

We r a family of 2 adults n 2 kids, age 8 & 13. Booked Foxhill after reading thru the favorable reviews fr Tripadvisor. Emailed directly to Maria for booking. Stayed fr 18-22 Jun, 2014. Paid RM340/ night w BF for 4. Maria replied was prompt n our reservation was secured immediately. Requested for her to plan our itinerary as this was our first visit. Was picked up by Chef Zaid at the airport, RM 20 per transfer. We arrived in the afternoon. The pl was exactly how we expected it to be. Simple furnishings w ac n water heater, tv n dvd player. Note that the tv can only play dvd, for live/cable channels, watch at the community hut where we'd breakfast. There's a billiard table in the community hut too! We stayed in Jasmine Hse(nearest to pool), a double bed for the adults in the 'bed rm', a day bed n a mattress for the kids in the living area. Bec it's located in the middle of the island, next to the forest, do expect insects, lizards, birds...among u. There's a swimming pool n most of the time we were the only guests in the pool. There r 6 hses in the whole estate. Bec of its location it's a must to drive n FH provides car rental. Rental rate between RM80-110/ day. Chef Zaid spent some time w me to plan for itinerary. Mangroves tour is a must when in Langkawi. The one that was recommended by Zaid was very gd. We paid RM250 for a boat for 2 hrs for the mangrove tour. Clean boat n captain was superb. He spoke fluent English n was able to attract the eagles to feed. Daily BF was simple w the standard bread n spread, cereal plus a daily change of another items. We had nasi lemak, English BF, roti prata, etc on different days. Chef Zaid is a very experienced chef he had worked in China for a yr bef n 15 yrs as hotel chef specialised in fusion cuisine. We had our last dinner prepared by him n it was the best meal we had in Langkawi. The pl is quiet w no city noise except the noise of nature. The boys loved the pl here despite of its simplicity n lack of the std hotel facilities. Having wifi connection helps! It's an ideal pl for silent retreat or if u r looking for bk to nature stay this is the pl for u. There r 3 resident cats (no smell)in the estate but they only stay near to the community hut area. They have a tree hse that zzz 2 but take note the bath rm is below the tree hse. They also provide laundry service at a reasonable cost, big load cost around RM12. Thank u Maria, Zaid, Ying n Mela for making our stay a pleasant n memorable one! All the best to u guys! Fr Irene, Wei, Isaac n Ian (SG)

My wife and stayed in the recently erected tree house accommodation towards the rear of the plot. The owner, Maria was away during our visit, however, her son Chef was an extremely good host. Chef was happy to accommodate all our requirements or point us in the right direction.

The location is very central on the island and therefore may not appeal to certain travellers, although a cheap taxi is never far away and always accessible having spoken to Chef. The location though boasts great views from the hill, especially during sunset. One evening, my wife and I sat on our balcony having a beer and watched a great hornbill bird feed on the garden berries.

We had also heard good reports regarding the home cooked food at Fox Hills. Although they weren’t serving food every evening, Chef was happy to accommodate us on request and head to the local food market. His home cooking was authentic and delicious.

The good reviews about Fox Hill on trip advisor are a good reflection of what to expect. The accommodation is affordable, clean, spacious and value for money.

I’d also recommend a visit to Bon Ton for dinner. Make sure you head there fore sundowners, prior to food!

I stayed at Fox Hill for 3 nights in the tree top room. A lovely one bed room with air conditioning right up in the hills and as close to nature as you can get. The pool is lovely. Chef Zaid collected me from the jetty which was helpful. Fox Hill really is in the middle of nowhere! For the solo traveler it can feel a very lonely place at times. You will be reliant on taking a car on bike to get around the island. Chef cooked for me on my first night and the food was great. Nights two and three I had to fend for myself. Overall a really relaxing and lovely place but don't expect to get up to much around Fox Hill itself.
