“Very disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2010

This looked like a a very upmarket restaurant - the decor is tastefully simple in black and white with exotic Sanskrit characters carved in wood as you enter. There was also a nice lounge area to have pre-dinner drinks. We had high expectations for our meal, which turned out to be very disappointing. My husband ordered the selection of Malay dishes as a main course. The beef redang had been grossly overcooked, the son-in-law eggs - the outside was so overcooked that it was almost like a second egg-shell, need I go on. My lamb shank had also been cooked for far too long. Added to this service was slow and haphazard. There were very few people in the restaurant and the ambiance non-existent. Not recommended.

“Great atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2010

The restaurant is very well decorated, stylish, and that was what impressed us most. We dined there on New Year's eve, there was a pre-established menu, which was very tasteful, with only one exception: the main course. The staff was kind enough, not particularly trained, but willing to help. Worth paying a visit to the restroom :)

Stylish Langkawi fine dining - woven metal sculptures, open ceiling skylight, tealights and strewn frangipani. The food however is very average - barracuda wasn't fresh and these are the Andaman Seas! Carbonara and bread were the best offerings. Service is friendly if slow - island style efficiency :)

Very good decor and amazing toilet. Bread dip was good as were cheese sticks. Carbonara was good. Lamb shank was average. Barracuda wasn't that fresh. Chocolate lava dessert was average.

“Excellent - just excellent!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2008

We visited here earlier in 2008 and had a wonderful meal. From what I remember there are local and western style dishes and there's a superb choice of wine at prices far cheaper than the hotels. A friend that we were with commented that the lamb shank he had was the best he'd ever had - in fact he still comments on it now several months later!

We had a drink first in the Sunkarma Bar next door then walked through the interconnecting door to the restaurant. Wait till you see the unisex rest room - fantastic!! Take your camera in with you!! While we were there a busload of tourists stopped just to come in to see the rest room, take photos and leave - they didn't even stop to eat!!

Although we stayed at the Pelangi, it was worth taking the short taxi ride to eat here.
