We booked our private tour through the Andaman Hotel, for ourselves and our 11 year old daughter. Our guide was Rizal Rani, a man in his early 20,s who described himself as a relative newcomer to the JungleWalla team. He was an excellent guide - clear and calm, yet very obviously passionate about the ecology of the area. Not only did he disapprove of the damage done by irresponsible actions, such as bank erosion and bird feeding but he was able to explain in real detail the biological impacts. This is not a tour for people who demand "success" in ticking off a guaranteed list of species but with guides like Rizal, the tour is fascinating and informative. Particularly appreciate his ready use of handbooks on fauna and flora, so one can read up the detail. Would strongly recommend!

We booked this trip through our hotel. We were picked up at the Andaman hotel and taken to a small fishing jetty. Where we were met by a very polite and well informed young man, Rizal Rani. He was very knowledgable and made the trip to the mangroves very enjoyable. Between Rizal and the boatman they pointed out many wild animals - eagles (which they don't feed) brown kingfishers, monkeys, skipper fish, fiddler crabs etc. There was only my husband and myself on the trip, so it was like a personalised trip. We then got back in the minibus and were taken to a local house, where we had a delicious lunch. Afterwards we went on a hike through the jungle to a beautiful cool freshwater pool. It was a bit a hike for a couple of oldies (we are 65 and 70 years old) especially in the heat. But we made it. You need to wear good walking shoes/sandals and be fairly active for that part of the trip! But, nevertheless, we enjoyed the experience and would certainly recommend it.

We booked this trip online specifically because this company DO NOT FEED ANIMALS!

We were very impressed with our mangrove tour. We were collected from our hotel, picked up a couple from another hotel and proceeded to a small jetty.

We met our guide; a very well spoken friendly young man (I've forgotten the name). He was delightful and full of information. The boat was smallish and perfect for getting close to the mangroves.

We saw monkeys, water monitors and eagles. Other boats from other companies are out on the water too and unfortunately take tourists to feed monkeys potatoe crisps and the eagles chicken skin - both of which cannot be found in the nature environment.

We stopped at a floating restaurant and fish farm called Hole in the Wall. We patted a very friendly sting ray and were taken on a quick tour of the other fish kept there.

Restaurant had toilets, bevereages and ice cream for our short stop (take cash).

The mangroves were beautiful, we learnt a lot about the local flora and fauna and ended by heading out to the open ocean, past the Kilim Geopark Sign (Hollywood type sign) and back to the jetty.

We were picked up and taken back to our hotel. The trip was about 3 hours and I would highly recommend it.

Take sunscreen and insect repellant (didn't see one mozzie though quite was good).

JungleWalla has a website offering several trips to the jungle and mangroves. As it was one of the recommendations on TripAdvisor we were looking for some sportive hike through the jungle and chose the jungle trekking with the “medicine men” that you can book online. We were fetched from our hotel and taken to a parking lot (taxi trip lasting about 45 minutes) from where you could reach a small trail. The trail itself was short and it only took one and a half hour including explanation until it was finished. The guide told us some interesting facts about the plants and insects we saw. Getting back to the car we drove for about 5 minutes and stopped again at a parking lot from where we took a ten minute hike to a small waterfall and pond to take a bath in. The place was really beautiful and the water refreshing. After about 45 minutes we went back to the car and were driven back to our hotel. Alltogether the trip was informative but too short. We guessed it was because we booked off-season and didn’t call in advance before booking online. I recommend you call the agency first before booking. Probably the excursions are so pricey because of the long taxi service which is included. The trip is perfect for those who only want to have a short insight into the jungle and see if they like it. Everything is well organized. After the trip you feel safe and informed for taking another longer trip. I recommend the jungle trail behind the Telagah Tuju Falls. Or ask your guide about the long trip, they seem to offer full-day trips during dry season.

We took the morning and evening walk from the Andaman as well as the mangrove tour and loved each of them. We saw some amazing animals, birds and plants and saw the dedication that JungleWalla have in ensuring that the rainforest and mangroves remain as they are for future generations to enjoy. It was very sad to see other tour companies in the mangroves upsetting the natural balance of the mangroves by feeding animals and birds with food that is so detrimental to their wellbeing.
I would like to make a special mention to our guide on the morning walk and mangrove tour, Shakira. Her passion for the rainforest and mangroves is amazing and she made these two tours especially wonderful for us....thanks Shakira.
If you are visiting Langkawi and are taking a tour, please make sure that you do the right thing by the natural habitat and go with a group such as JungleWalla that want to keep this amazing Island as beautiful and natural as can be.
