“Like walking thru fangorn Forest (LOTR)”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

The start of the trail is at 2000m above sea level. Its a day hike (back & forth) but one can be slowed down by muddy terrain & rain. Its starts with wooden plank trail for about 200m & then you'll start to trail the muddy forest.

The best thing about the mount was the has a very scenic & fantastic view on its trail. Plenty of pitcher plants & mossy everywhere. Temperature was cold 15-20C & sometimes lower when its raining during the evening. If you must, please bring your camera because there's a lot of terrific scenery thru the journey.

The peak is actually a flat peak like other mountain. We cant see a thing due to the mist. The peak is at 2110m above sea level.

Tips :-
Glove a must, waterproof shoes, extra socks for coming down, cold/jacket, some water, bag with rain cover.
Need a guide if you're not a hiker.

“Challenging hike but beautiful and scenic view”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

Gunung Irau hike is quite a challenging hike due to it's muddy terrain.

I hiked the trail on a sunny day. I can imagine how punishing this journey would have been had it rain or pour heavily. Some parts of the trek can have mud conditions that reach knee depth. Be wary on where you step.

However, the pitcher plants are plenty here. The moss collected on the trees are ones that i had never seen myself. The deeper you go into the Mt. Irau trek the more moss there is on rocks and trees. The forest is exuberant with a mystical feel.

Leave early about 8 am to begin your journey. I met a group we met on our way back who started too late and was only able to reach mini Irau.

Upon reaching mini Irau, take the path on the left (Not straight ahead!). The path is a path heading down to the ridge heading to the peak of Mount Irau. The path leading to Mount Irau is place right next to the Mini Irau sign board.
