I was a bit apprehensive about this one having read some of the other reviews and first impressions weren't great: having booked via Agoda, I tried to email them several times to confirm the booking but never got a reply. However, there was no problem and they were expecting us when we arrived. We had a "family suite" which was basically a twin and a triple with a connecting door. The rooms were clean although our window didn't quite shut properly and the kids' bathroom had no shower curtain but it didn't really matter. Only had breakfast in the restaurant which was a bit bizarre: huge room, with tables set for 10 and only us and one other couple in there. Only a 5 minute walk down to the river (or there's a hotel transfer bus for a few rinngits) where there are lots of places to eat - we liked Wan's (furthest to the left at the river front). Nice bar/cafe at the hotel serving (slightly pricey) drinks in the evening. It's not lap of luxury stuff but if you don’t want to pay for the Mutiara resort and want something better than a hostel, it's a good compromise.

We had booked 2 nights but left after only one. The room was damp, the shower curtain was moldy, the window curtains were ripped, the aircon was very loud and on the blink, no TV and dead birds on the chair outside the room. No only was there a dead bird which had been there a while but the chair was covered in layers of bird guano. The deco was very old. There was a choice of chicken or fish on the dinner menu but only the chicken was available. There was no food at breakfast at all and the person behind the counter had to bring us bread to toast at 8.00am?? It appeared the staff may have eaten it the night before. Hope you like ants and don't be fooled by the photos they display on the website I think they were taken 15 years ago at least. The forest itself was OK and the boat trip was excellent. We had planned to go up the river by boat to the local village but we could not stay there for fear of getting sick from all the mold.

We stayed 3days/2nights... As a starter there was no option to get some dinner because we where 'too late' according to the guy behind the desk... Which is BTW the only person who actually do care about his guests...or he is good in role playing .. (we arrived around 4pm) he also apologized there was no TV reception and Internet was not working also ... Ok our first idea was we are in the wilderness so what to expect...
So we ended up eating in one of the floating restaurants ...that was very nice and good!

The room it self was not clean, a lot broken or simply missing... Like a remote for the TV set but hey it did not work anyway...
Next day after coming back from a hike we were told there was no water...so too bad, no toilet or shower available.. That took till around 8pm...
When we arrived in the room the room was not made so we compliant again... No sorry or so.. They finally came to clean the room at 7:30pm... We where already back from a dinner at the river as that was way better then offered in the hotel (buffet) for about 1/4th of the price!..then suddenly the water was working again... But no toilet paper so the cleaning group did not check that ...again to reception... Got some toiletpaper roll... "Do it your self" was the only comment we got...

Last morning we tried breakfast....please not even try that...they manage to even get an egg ruined...

It is so stupid...the accommodation has every thing it needs to be a good accommodation but it needs a complete set of new personal to start with.. If you compare how the floating restaurants owners are cooking with joy with their limited equipment ...and than this resort which has all facilities available...

Oh BTW, we had a 'deluxe' room...I do not what to see what in normal room looks like...
The forest and the floating restaurants are very nice, but 'Terrible' is the best term I can come up with for this resort...

A stay in the Rainforest Resort in low season (October-March) is slightly less exhilarating than the Lonely Planet would lead one to believe. At least we assume the below maybe attributed to a seasonal lull.
The rooms (even the deluxe ones) are extremely bare. Although equipped with airco and TV, notes are posted stating a regret that the resort cannot offer any remote controls for them (no problem for the TV: why would want to spend their time watching TV in the rain forest?) but slightly more annoying for the airco, which is pretty essential in this climate!
The closets are mouldy and stinky: we found some dirty socks belonging to an occupant clearly long gone...

The cleanliness of the rooms only barely touches on the acceptable, with daily 'cleaning' consisting of the (previously used) bed linen quickly being pulled straight and a couple of towels (at least they were clean) being thrown in. Trash isn't completely emptied, the (advertised complimentary) bottled water supply isn't always restocked, and we even had to go back twice (during a three night stay) to request new toilet rolls. And even though this IS the rain forest and a certain amount of uninvited fauna is only to be expected, the beds (which were otherwise alright) DID house some unpleasant, unidentifiable bugs who found their way at night under one's nightwear to deliver some nasty bites.

On a slightly desperately positive note: the shower is nice and powerful (if you don't mind the water cutting out unexpectedly now and again) and most of the lights in the room work.

With the exception of the guy manning the reception, whose kind and cheery disposition was a ray of light, the staff is almost uniformly disinterested. It's not that they're actively unkind, but it's like a guest is an inconvenience to the people working here, who have apparently much better and more interesting things to do.

The vaunted restaurant was closed for the entire time we were there. The bar (a rather small room, but with a very nice terrace -service on the terrace costs an additional 7 ringgits per order, incidentally) was open some of the time, manned by three petite girls who were great at fetching a canned coke, but who got into a bit of a panic when asked to operate the coffee machine.
There's just a few standard (prefab) drinks to be had (including beer), all of which are also available cheaper in the well-stocked and not very expensive minimarket in the middle of the restaurant.
The less said about breakfast the better: it's a truly sorry minute spread of toast, rice, beans and old coffee. Rather go into the shanty town for a proper, nice (and cheap) meal at one of the houseboat restaurants.

There's also a 'coffee house' on the premises, which apparently has hosted a great party...six months previously. The tables are still set, food (and other) stains litter the floor and chairs, and all the chafing dishes and cutlery are still there.
Of especially rustic interest is the huge pile of monkey poo at the west most pillar.
The whole setting for all its eeriness evokes a Titanic-like scenario, where all the guests were suddenly wiped away in a horrific catastrophe, leaving the scene as it was....

Again, this may all be attributable to us visiting during a particularly slow time, but all in all we don't feel the resort offers value for money.
At this point we would rather recommend to have a look at another resort that is conveniently located IN the actual park, even though it's really rather expensive, or -if you're more adventurous, or not very comfort/luxury minded- to check out one of the cheap boarding houses alongside the river.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe room, which is slightly bigger and has a view to the forest side (as opposed to a vi...

We booked a package deal with NKS in Malaysia for Taman Negara and because one employee was not making a booking at the Woodland resort the only thing we could do is except the 'left over' (for the same price) Rainforest resort. Our Deluxe room was slightly better than a hostel. No hot water during our stay of 4 nights, remote for airco aswell as tv where missing. The room and bathroom was not clean. Complaining to the hotel about the water ended in a 'it's on repair and the parts are not arrived'. The NKS which should overview the package regarding quality and accommodtion has only been there during contractmeetings because it dit looked shabby. Complaining at the NKS office KL, reagrading the package deal resultated in no result. The package is to expensive regarding the offered items. Never again, both for NKS aswell Rainforest Resort

Very basic room even if we stayed in the deluxe one. Overall ok, small bathroom with hot shower. There is a buffet dinner but we didn't eat there. The breakfast is average with some fruit, bread and eggs. The place is ok if you come to the park mainly for the activities. Staff at reception is nice and can organize 4W night drive in request. Inside the hotel there is also an office to organze treks (but we went directly to the park HQ) and a small minimarket with beer. Position is ok, about 15 min walk from the park but they also have free shuttles.

We didn't expect much for any place in taman negara. All we were hoping for was a clean place. It was cleaner than other places in kuala tahan (heard from other visitors). However, what put me off was the dirty pillow. I got severe allergy on my exposed neck where it touched the pillow. The room was outdatedbut that was OK. The location is at the far end of the river so expecting10 mins walk. It wasnt too bad but it could be in the hot and humid environment. Since the occupancy was low, they served the breakfast instead of having the buffet. The breakfast was poor. The last day buffet breakfast was decent but that was due to a big school group coming in. Also, with big school group, it was quite noisy.
