“Good place with easy access to 24 hours food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2012

I was here for a company away-day session from 5 to 7 October 2012. Some salient points of the hotel during my brief stay here:

- Room was good, clean. Although some may comment that it looks outdated, but for me, as long as it's clean, well maintained, that's what matters.
- Staff that I bumped into/met/etc....were all very friendly.
- Excellent spread/variety for the buffet breakfast.
- If you're hungry in the middle of the night, you can just walk next door to the various 24-hours fast food outlets (McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, etc.)

- Parking can be a problem during weekends.

Choose to stay in to attend the wedding function. It was a good getaway too. And overall my family and I had a good stay.

Staffs are friendly. Room is clean with good view. Pool and beach is clean and nice. My only complaint is the gym is so outdated.

Just few minutes walk outside the hotel has many fast food restaurants, cafe and bar. Don’t forget to see the sun rise about 6.45am/7.00am. Beautiful.

This is another of the places we stayed at on our trip to Malaysia - grandparents, children and grandchildren. It was during Ramadan (the time of fasting for Muslim people), so the place was quiet during the day, but at night was packed with families. The food in the main restaurant, buffets each night because of Ramadan, was very good. One night we ate at the grill close to the beach which was also good, more European dishes, whereas the main restaurant buffet had been virtually all Asian food. Some of the family went to Kuala Rompin (a couple of hours south from Kuantan) for a deep sea fishing trip, which they really enjoyed - plenty of sailfish around that area. In Kuantan itself there isn't much to do, but the Resort is ideal for just relaxing, sunbathing and eating. If you don't like young children running around the place, this isn't for you. It is definitely a family resort. There should be free wifi in all hotels nowadays, it really is a farce to have to pay for it, which one does in many of the 5* hotels too. It was available free in the Regency Club Lounge, but not in the rooms.

Room Tip: My husband and I were upgraded to a suite, as they had no walk-in showers in the available twin-bedd...

If you want to pay €200 per night for a club floor room (because they tell you there are no other rooms available when in fact there are) for hordes of screaming children, two pools one of which is supposed to be adults only but in fact is also filled with kids, razor thin walls so you can hear everything that is happening in the room next to you, "renovated" rooms falling apart, having to wait forever for breakfast because there are no tables available and inflexible policies that won't allow you to check in even half an hour earlier than the official time, then by all means stay here.

I loved the way the hotel is laid out... with ample green plants everywhere you turn... the long corridors reminded me of Intercontinental Jimbaran Bali... its relaxing and therapeutic as i walk along the corridors.. (for me anyways....)... I got a room with a lousy view... but I could tell if you got a room with the beach view, it can be nice...

The bed was soft... which is not good for the back. so i asked for extra blanket and slept on the floor.... :D its crazy, a supposedly international hotel linked to an international hotel chain, has lousy bed.... the extra blanket they gave me had holes in it... LOL :D

The best part about this resort, is the breakfast cafe... We got a table where the crowd wouldnt be a bother to us, and we sat facing the sea and sunrise... It was BLISS....

Try this hotel, if only for a weekend getaway.... nothing more..

Not a honeymoon resort....

Room Tip: ask for beach facing room.

Stayed 4 nights at the Hyatt Regency Kuantan in Aug 2012. my stay was during the muslim fasting month of ramadhan, and over a weekend too. The hotel was packed with tourists during this time. The Hyatt is one of the oldest hotels in Kuantan, and has gone through renovations and upgrades over the year, leaving the hotel still in good shape. It has a wonderful location, right on the beach of Teluk Chempedak, 5mins from the centre of town. Just outside the hotel a lot of development has taken place, with huge drive-ins of the usual fast-food chains: macdonald’s Kentucky fried chicken, burger king.. There are also lots of restaurants and bars, making this small beach quite the tourist destination. This is therefore the nice family holiday spot, but not really the place for solitude or appreciation of the beauty of Malaysia’s eastern coastline and its famous beaches.

The rooms are nice and spacious, with easy access to the two pools and the beach. Bathrooms are too small however, for my liking.. quite cramped in fact. Nothing spectacular about the room facilities, but all in working order and sufficient for the holiday-maker who is going to be spending more time outside than inside your room.

What I didn’t like – internet is not free, as it should be. I still can’t understand why hotels charge for a basic facility like broadband! The room service was also lacking, and the reason for this was the fasting month. Unfortunately, hotel staff, who are predominantly muslim, neglect their duties to serve quests for their religious practices, and this is not professional. However, in the spirit of tolerance, I will reserve judgement here, and hope that outside the fasting month, service is normal and efficient.

All in all, a nice stay, in a nice location.

Room Tip: sea facing rooms are obviously better, but pricier

I like the place. Maybe some rooms could be renovated, but I continue to go to escape KL with my family. The food is nice, but need to have more sea food and bbq fish. Choice is not too much at night.
