We were there for 3 days - service is excellent - Request for a sea-view facing room if sitting at the balcony, watching the sea and the sunrise is what you would enjoy....The hotel is perfect for people who have taken a short break from busy work schedules - gives us time to bask in the simplicity of life - We had a room almost directly facing East so we didn't have to even be down at the beach to watch the sunrise.
Concierge and Front Desk staff were ever so helpful - and they went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Members of staff readily called in to make dinner reservations for us outside the hotel and recommendations to the various eateries were spot on. The beach in front of the hotel has very soft smooth sand and the staff kept the area litter free.

Room Tip: Book early so that you can secure a sea-view facing room.

We spent 2 nights here at the end of our Malaysia trip. I was a bit wary due to the many negative reviews but it was convenient for handing our car back at Kuantan airport. I debated staying one more night at the Tanjong Jara and reducing this by one night but wanted to see a little of Kuantan as my husband had spent time there in the 60's with the RAF and goes on about the wonderful beach he remembers visiting. Besides, I thought I would be able to contradict the negative reviews, but I am afraid they are spot on.
Firstly, I will give the positives, which is the only reason I have not given a one point. The beach is stunning. Shame that on the three days we were there the red flag flew the whole time. At least we were able to enjoy the South China Sea at our previous hotel - every day! Also, I cannot fault the Regency Club lounge and it's attentive staff. The canapés were lovely. In fact the first evening, we abandoned our plans to find somewhere outside to eat, and enjoyed the facilities there. I do not usually drink wine when visiting Malaysia as the cocktails and beer are cheaper and better as are the soft drinks, but the wine served there was very good, better than at our hotel in KL. The G&T was not bad either!
Now the negatives. I had read how dated it was. You really have to see it to believe it. It is grim. We had a sea facing room with nice view but in desperate need of some TLC. Hyatt should be ashamed of themselves - and housekeeping was no better. The first night we had no bath mat which meant the floor got rather wet and were it not for the slippers provided, would have been dangerous. The next day, for no apparent reason, the 2 towelling robes disappeared. We had hung them up on hooks so can see no reason why they were suddenly taken out of the room. I know, had we rung reception, we would have received an apology and had fresh ones, but by this time, I really could not be bothered. It should not have happened in the first place.
The pools look nice in the photos. Whilst the small (swim up one) was quite nice, the larger one was positively dirty and in need of a good scrub and I only used it briefly to cool down. If you wanted a cool drink you first had to find someone to serve you as the pool bar was not constantly manned.
The service at the main restaurant was not what we had got used to in Malaysia. It was unfriendly and inefficient. Maybe it was a little inconvenient people actually wanting to eat. We had dinner the
2nd evening. We were eventually given 2 menus. Whilst discussing what to have, we realised they were both slightly different. Never mind. I chose something off mine and my husband found something that appealed to him. A few minutes after ordering, we were approached again. My husband had been issued with the old menu and his choice was no longer available! Again, that should never have happened. Everywhere we ate during our 18 days in Malaysia, we were always offered iced water almost as soon as we were sat down. Not here. It was an afterthought just as we were coming to the end of our meal!
Here at the Hyatt, modernising may take time, but there is no excuse for the comedy of errors.

Room Tip: Sea view - without that, the place is dire

The hotel facilities are great, with a wonderful beach, rooms a little dated, but as all the Amenities good place to chill for a long weekend with family.
fast food outlets near by for a cheap meal outside hotel.

I am staying from time to time at the Hyatt Kuantan. The surroundings and view from the hotel is very picturesque. The location is near perfect, but the condition of the rooms and other facilities are in such a bad condition that you might say if not for the view and location, then you should maybe find a better in the city areas (such as the zenith). It gets to you and it is sad to see that they not putting more effort in improving the standards.

Room Tip: Choose this hotel if you love great views but not if you prefer good standards.

Overall its ok except for 1 which is the room service. Our room was not ready till 5pm. Nevertheless the view and the room that we took was good as it was at the ground floor and facing the sea. Food is excellent as they serve varities of food and their service at the buffet lounge was good too.

I'm a frequent traveller who checks in and out of hotels frequently, I checks into Zenith and Vistana Kuantan occasionally too. This is my worst experience with a 5 stars hotel. It started off with a very limited car park and I'll need to park at a distant space with limited illumination at night, I do understand that this is quite difficult to be solved. Then, when I try to check in at the time stated in my reservation receipt, I was asked to wait for another hour for the room to be cleaned and they will call me when it's ready. 1.5 hours past doing nothing, killing time and with no call received, I queue in front of the counter again to find out that my room is ready without anyone informing me! Most importantly the hotel arranged a special morning call at 9am on a Sunday morning by knocking and banging some hose right outside of my room. Marvelous Hyatt Regency.

I just stayed here for 1 night for a company event. This is the first time that I'm staying in a Hyatt hotel and I was quite disappointed with the rooms. We got a room [room #2310] facing the pool and sea. No complaints on the view though, it was fantastic and perfect. The room itself was another story. The pillows were so flat, not fluffy and comfortable. The bed was a king sized bed though, lots of space for 2 person. The bathroom is old as well. Things were peeling off the hand basin and bath tub. Mold were on the shower head. This hotel need a serious makeover to live up to its 5 star reputation.

Room Tip: Get a seaview room, and avoid the ground floors, it can be noisy and have less privacy.
