“Large rooms for good price, a bit old, note non-smoking preference.”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

Summarized: Ample parking, not covered. Non-smoking rooms are not available as family rooms. Rooms are all very spacious. Shower is good, towels are old. Breakfast is good, but restaurant is cold. Sleeping quality is good. Swimming pool is nice, service is a bit slow.
More specific:
The hotel has ample parking in front of the hotel, although not covered. Note that in Kuantan they have changed some street directions, and this can make it harder to find the hotel by gps only.
Check in was smooth. We booked a family room with three single beds, but apparantly they only have family rooms on smoking floors. So when we came to the room we found out the room had an ashtray and smelled smoky. We called to ask for another room, non-smoking. We were transferred to a room on the 7th floor, two single beds, but very spacious. They then provided an extra bed, so we still had the three single beds. They told us this room is more expensive (although slighly smaller, and no sliding doors & balcony available), but we did not have to pay extra, good service!
Breakfast was good. Lot’s of choice, and even on a busy sunday morning no waiting time. All is self service, coffee and tea as well. Note that the airco is on a low temperature, so it’s a bit chilly in the restaurant.
The sleeping quality was good, although the airco in the room made it rather cold. Luckily they had provided a coverlet, which helped to keep warm. One bad experience came thanks to the neighbouring guests, who decided to watch tv with loud volume at 3.30 am at night. After calling reception about it three times, the hotel send up security, after which the noice stopped at about 4.30 am. Not good for getting a good night rest, but this was caused by other hotel guests, and the hotel tried to stop it. Still a bit annoying, especially since they advertise about their ‘soundproofing’ rooms.
The shower was very good. I always take note of that, because many hotels have poor waterpressure, but this hotel did very well. Quality of the towels though is not so good, stains and holes in the towels showed they should be renewed.
The swimming pool is big and had a good temperature. The kids pool is separate, so that’s nice as well. Also nice is the little playset with a slide towards the kids pool. When we arrived at the pool on a Saturday afternoon nobody was available to supply pool towels, and it took quite a while after calling housekeeping before somebody arrived with towels. I noted they do not keep to their own pool rules of waering proper swimming attire, I have seen a few people swimming fully dressed in t-shirts and shorts (not swim shorts), but that might be a Malaysian thing, I’ve seen it in many pools around the country. “Less is more” does not work here; it’s rather “ the more the better”.
Ample parking, not covered. Non-smoking rooms are not available as family rooms. Rooms are all very spacious. Shower is good, towels are old. Breakfast is good, but restaurant is cold. Sleeping quality is good. Swimming pool is nice, service is a bit slow.

Room Tip: They only have family rooms on smoking floors. All rooms are very spacious and an extra bed fits ea...

My short stay been greeted by attentive reception name Hafiz.
My room been arrange smoothly but been given twin bed instate of a large bed as requested.
The hotel lighting was quite dull & the hotel was quite old.

The room was spacious & it can fit extra bed easily. With flat screen TV & a sofa area.
Bathroom was spacious with a shower.

There's a lot of choice for breakfast. Most of it is Local Asian food.
Overall stay. Satisfied.

Pro's: Big spacious room & bathroom.
Con's: Dull lighting.

Stayed just 1 night for business trip. Check-in process was a breeze at 12.30am, which we were grateful after a long drive from KL and all of us we so tired and sleepy.

Deluxe room was spacious....large enough for 2 extra single beds. Bed was comfy. Eventhough it's old, but well kept. I just had issue with the musty smell in the room...maybe from the carpet. Toilet was clean except for the murky shower glass panels....looks like it either has not been cleaned properly or not been cleaned for some times. And for ladies, if you are using hair dryer, better bring your own. They only provide "air-blower" in the room.

Late check-out was only allowed until 1pm, or else extra charges. Breakfast is just average in terms of menu and taste. But they serve variety of hot drinks: teh tarik, coffee, tea, etc.

After check-out, I realised that I have left my praying costume (telekung) in the room. I called the hotel at about 5pm to inform them that I would be coming in half hour or an hour time to collect. The male staff who was answering the phone told me to just go to the hotel to pick it up. I arrived at hotel at about 6pm, informed the reception staff of my intention. He opened few drawers at the reception, and in 1 of the drawers i saw a bag of white cloth which looked like my praying costume. He checked the item and then called the housekeeping staff and then told me to wait because the housekeeping staff will search for the item. I asked him why it was not searched earlier when I made the call, he said he doesnt know about it because it was not him who received the call. I found it funny because his voice sounded exactly as the staff who spoke to me on the phone and I also noticed that he was the only one on duty at the reception that evening (despite of heavy volume of guests checking-in) and front staff also act as telephonists for the hotel.

I then waited at the lobby for almost 20mins, but no sign of the housekeeping staff. I returned to the reception and urged the same male staff to expedite the matter. He called the housekeeping again and it turned out that the white cloth in the drawer which I saw earlier was indeed my praying costume!!! And I had to spend more than 1/2 hour just to wait for them to go round in circles in the hotel. Very disappointing!!

We took deluxe room for one night. Bed sheet were dirty & stained. Shower room got black fungus. Calls to operator were un-answered at 10pm. WIFI service were poor with only one device could be used but the front desk told us can be used for two device. We were told newspaper will be provided in the morning but no where to be found in the morning. Had to call the front desk to get it. Morning breakfast time were over crowded, had to wait for half hour to get a seat.
Only positive point is the large room size.

Room Tip: Near the city!

MS Garden is one of the oldest hotel in Kuantan. It is located next to Kuantan Mall where it is convenient for you to do your shopping for needs. Food is also just a walk away. The surrounding area has shophouses with variety to fulfill your needs and conveniently other facilities i.e. workshop, carwash etc. The parking is abit hassle though but it is not an actual sweat for guests.

The rooms are well kept although it has been around for years in Kuantan. They have recently refurbished the rooms to give it a modern touch and amazingly they are quite huge and very comfortable for those who like to travel in group and cramp everyone in one room.

In Year 1999, I used to stay here for several weeks working in the nearby area. It was among the best in Kuantan due to spaciousness of the room. The facilities was great and the services was wonderful. I kept coming back to the this hotel everytime I went to Kuantan, Malaysia. Even my kids loved it. The location is adjacent to the shopping complex, nearby to some great restaurant, and the great beach is just 5-10 minutes drive away.

Fast forward to present time, my all kids had grown up and we have the opportunity to stay there for one night. The sign of aging has shown. In the room we stayed, the floor had been changed to the ordinary mosaic floor. It used to be a soft beautiful carpet. The bathroom also shows sign of aging. The varieties on breakfast menu I used to have, has been reduced. It is no longer the hotel I used to loved. I can see the hotel tried to maintain the facility but it seems their cost cutting exercise is damaging their image and standard.

Remember when we were kids, living in a place with many beautiful memories, only to come back years later to find it is not the same feeling anymore? same here.

Anyway, my beautiful memory in this hotel still remain. Will I come back here again? I hope so, only for the treasured memory. The hotel is ok, but it used to be great.

Room Tip: rooms facing pool has better view.
