I've stayed at the White House on numerous occasions since 2002. It's become my budget standby in Georgetown. I give it three stars but really, it's better than average -- all things considered -- but not quite very good.
There is absolutely nothing fancy about the White House. It's a stark, functional Chinese hotel. I've generally taken a big air-con room with two beds. There's a balcony but the doors to the balcony are painted metal; no light comes in with the doors closed. There's no decor whatsoever. There's a sink in the room, but toilet and shower are across the hall. The room is invariably clean, the beds reasonably comfortable and there's enough light to read by.
The location on Jalan Penang near the junction with Lebuh Chulia is convenient. The staff are a little brusque, but basically friendly and helpful. The beer is well-priced by Malaysian standards.
The White House is what it is. If you're happy with no-frills, comfortable, good-value lodking, this could be your place.
