“Do not stay here - disgusting!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014 via mobile

Unfortunately I didn't read any reviews or book ahead when coming to Georgetown so just walked into this delightful place without knowing how disgusting it was. Run by dirty Indians (close to little India) so should of known what the room would be like. The entire place stank of urine and there were stains on the towels, bed sheets, walls. The walls were also paper thin so got no sleep. There was dodgy electrics in the room as the lights kept going on and off, and the shared bathroom was something out of a horror movie. This place was not cheap and during my entire 6 months of travelling throughout Sri Lanka, Thailand etc this was the worst place I have stayed in. I don't normally write reviews but this place deserved a special mention!!

Like the previous reviewer we too visited Penang during a national holiday, which seems to be the only reason why anyone would resort to staying here. The owner, having already bumped her prices for the holiday, saw the opportunity to rip us off further when we asked for an additional mattress in our triple room. For four people ( one on the floor) we paid 250R. Even outside holiday season this place should be avoided. You will pray for your neighbours to crack out their durian in the corridors if only to cover up the smell of urine. Also keep your eyes out for rats. The rooms did appear to have been cleaned but were hardly worth the price and the lock to the toilet door was broken. You will have to fight for every towel or toilet roll with the rude, disinterested and at times confrontational owner who even made us pay an extra 10R to store our bags for four hours after check-out. Try and catch the owners friendly son for any kind of good service.

I had the misfortune of coming to Penang during a national holiday so, naturally, everyone had increased their prices. We paid RM120 for a very basic twin room. Even the usual rate of RM55 wouldn't have been close to good value. There were hairs in the beds, the walls may as well be made of paper and there were damaged light-fittings and holes in the ceiling. When it comes to the beds, the sheets were made of plastic, the blanket was wafer thin and the mattress hard as a rock.

I have been traveling Asia on a budget for a long time and I am not difficult to please, this is my first bad review so I am not exaggerating!

If you are coming to Georgetown, book somewhere in advance so you are not forced to settle for a shoddy place like this!
