Forget about big name hotels, this is the place to stay if you want to feel special.
There are eight rooms in the hotel. I stayed in room 5 for three nights. It is a twin bed room, with a comfortable sitting area, 2 large LCD TVs, a bathroom with shower and bath tub, and a separate toilet.
[Good] Quality amenities: made in the U.S. and generous sized shampoo / conditioning / soap / bubble bath. Fluffy robes and slippers, quality bedding, towels, stereo system.
Sounds pretty standard so far? It gets better.
[Better] Complimentary minibar: fully stocked with Italian Sanpellegrino branded soft drinks, mineral water, spring water, Nespresso machine and capsules, TWG tea, and branded snacks (chips, cookies, peanuts, m&m, muesli bars etc). As well as 4 bottles of spring water daily.
Customised stationery, you’ll have to open the stationery box to see for yourself, it’s a subtle yet thoughtful touch.
[Best] The breakfast is not the usual buffet affair, it is made to order and the guest can choose a main, a coffee / tea, and a juice for breakfast in the morning, served in the Living Room. The presentation, the texture, and the taste of the mains were exceptional. Service at breakfast was top notch and the ambience of the Living Room was chic, airy and very comfortable.
With the turn down service each night, treat sized cakes would be put on the table along with a sweet dream good night note.
I hired a Hertz rental car from downtown which I casually parked in Macalister’s car park one morning. I took it out for a drive that afternoon. Upon returning to hotel in the evening, I noticed the car park was completely full but there was a reserved parking spot with my rental car’s rego number printed on it, right in front of the foyer. I was surprised by the level of keen observation and thoughtfulness that Macalister’s staff demonstrate. It was the smallest detail that sets them apart from the rest of the field.
Can I find any flaw? If I must, maybe the fact that there was no milk or milk frother to go with the Nespresso machine in the room. But the restaurant staff makes a beautiful coffee to order for me so there is nothing to nag about really. I’m certain that if you ask for milk, they would deliver it fresh to you in the room.
This is the first time that I stayed at one of the “design hotels”. Apparently more than 400 hotels apply for this membership every year and on average only 5% of applicants is accepted. The experience in Macalister Mansion will make you want to check out other Design Hotels in the world. It is the combination of their top notch service, attention to detail, exceptional food and beverage, and the upmost comfort that makes staying at Macalister Mansion a truly unforgettable experience. Not to mention the amazing design of the hotel that many reviewers also praised.
