“Jewel of Georgetown”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 via mobile

Our stay at 7 Terraces was atmospheric.
What a wonderful wee hotel, a jewel set right in the heart of old Georgetown juxtaposed between little India and Chinatown.
We had the privilege to stay at the Argus apartment; it's on 2 levels, has a second bedroom for the kids, and a huge balcony! The bathroom was pure luxury with the best of rain showers and a bathtub to boot!
Try the Kebaya restaurant, its Straits Chinese fusion cuisine simply divine.
Bravo to the Manager Ewan and the staff for making us feel so welcome!

When it was decided that we are re-visiting Penang this June for 4 days, there was absolutely no argument as to where we are going to stay - ie Seven Terraces. The fact that we are returning guests speaks volume, I guess.
Ewan, Faizal, Yunn and Dilip are just as we remembered them. Warm, professional and charming.
There are 5 adults and 1 child for this trip. We checked into the Argus Apartment and a Stewart Room. Actually the A.A. on its own would have sufficed as it is huge. If you have kids, the double-storeyed rooms with the stairs would be a thrill. Plus the A.A. comes with a bath, which is useful to tempt the child to leave the pool and return to the room !
The hotel is well-kept as there always seems to be someone sweeping the floor, polishing the brass or dusting the antiques.
There is now complimentary afternoon tea by the pool from 4-5pm. In the evenings, candles in glass jars are lit along the corridors, creating a cozy and calming atmosphere. With Mozart, Billie or Ella playing softly in the background, what's not to like? We hope to be back.

perfect location, close to all the nice neighbourhoods.
Also all the street art is within a short walking distance.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast choices are just great, you can choose one of the items on their list but is it a very nice mix of western and local choices.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. This was one of the most pleasant hotels we have stayed at. Why? Its location in historic Georgetown; the building itself, beautifully converted from historic Georgetown shophouses; the staff, consistently friendly (but not over-familiar), helpful and professional; and the food, both for breakfast in the 'library' and in the hotel's own restaurant, Kebaya. The room was large, comfortable and well furnished.
This hotel and its staff were simply great. I highly recommend it.

This is my second time at Seven Terraces - I first visited 2 years ago shortly after it had first opened - and it has remained one of the most gorgeous places I have ever stayed in. Has not deteriorated in quality at all. This is a real boutique hotel in a great location in the heart of Georgetown, steps from Little India.

The property has been lovingly restored with much thought given to the layout and decor. Tasteful and elegant with an air of peace and calm. The rooms are huge with a gorgeous rainshower in the bathroom and are a great oasis from the sultry heat and bustle of Penang. Loved coming back to rest in between our bouts of sightseeing and eating!

Have stayed in both the Stewart one storey and two storey suites. Would have loved to have tried the suites with the baths. Big beds, free filtered water, fridge with complimentary local juices, grownup sized bathroom products.

The staff were delightful and helpful but not in your face and both the GM and owners seemed genuinely interested in hearing feedback. Service was very good.

Big a la carte breakfasts included and it was indicated that we could have more if we had wanted, afternoon tea on the terrace by the pool, fabulous cocktails, big pour wines. Shame I did not get the chance to try the restaurant but it was bustling every night.

The only minor recommendations I would suggest, and these are only from my personal taste, are perhaps to upgrade the quality of the linens and pilllows, provide more tea and (black coffee) for the rooms as there were a lot of local milky sachet mixes and have the option to be able to watch TV whilst relaxing in bed. Also have a proper turndown where the towels are changed. But as I said these are my personal preferences and have not detracted from my overall experience.

Fully recommend.

This hotel is not to be missed. Top quality food and drink, warm staff, and charming suits and common areas. The hotel's restaurant is an absolute must as well. My husband and I have travelled a lot and our stay at Seven Terraces is among the very best we've had the pleasure to experience. Well done!

This is an outstanding boutique hotel.

The restoration of the old building has been done with great care and attention to detail, and the use of traditional materials and incorporation of wooden and ceramic art makes the whole ensemble a real pleasure to stay in. A lot of trouble has been taken to re-use appropriate salvaged wood and other materials, and good craftsmanship is evident throughout - ask to see the photographs of the restoration. Anyone who has had work done on their own home will appreciate that this wasn't achieved lightly by the owners and management!

The rooms are spacious and well equipped, although the emphasis is on traditional comfort and style rather than cutting edge hotel kit (which is fine by us!). The wifi is fine - apparently they've just installed more access points, and certainly we had no problems at all. Housekeeping was immaculate throughout.

The staff are exceptionally well trained, enormously helpful and friendly while remaining non-intrusive, and the general manager Ewan runs a tight ship and is a mine of useful local knowledge. He was very kind and thoughtful when my wife was unwell one day.

Great restaurant, which concentrates on serving a relatively short range of choices really well (always a good sign). We ate there on 3 evenings and loved the live piano accompaniment - both players were highly accomplished and gave unintrusive renditions of a wide repertoire from Les Mis to Chopin, Beethoven and Satie.

Well positioned for exploring the historic areas of George Town, although the hotel really looks inward, so there aren't any external views to speak of. The roads running past the hotel are fairly quiet, and the careful design of the building helps prevent any external noise disturbance.
