This was a great place to start our trip around Penang Island as the building itself and a wonderful guided tour by Miss Molly gave us a good understanding of the history of Penang.

Interesting, good views from ramparts. Excavations underway, doesn't take too long to visit, couple of hours at most. Gives a feel for the history and background to the town.
It’s a historically very important site under restoration. But the entrance fee was RM 20, which was too expensive considering its exhibition.
For english speaking tourists Molly is excellent. Her knowledge of the fort and its history is what you expect but she also adds information on shops, restaurants and must do things in the local area. A most enjoyable tour.
At RM 20 the entrance cost isn't much and it's funding the restoration. Find out when the guided tours are and go on one, our guide was really knowledgeable and entertaining, a really interesting chap and we learned lots about the history of Penang as well as Fort Cornwallis. Some of the site is closed off for restoration but it's still worth a visit. There's a good air conditioned cafe too.
It's a fort from an earlier period, not intact and open to the tropical sun; so it can be a bit of an effort to keep goingand concentrate on the detail. Good for the background as much as the actual archaeology. The shop and cafe will be a welcome break.
