Hameediyah Nasi Kandar in Queens Street, was the best I had in Penang. They have A/C restaurant a few doors away from the original lot.

This small enclave near the bottom of Chulia Street also includes Pitt Street, as well as King Street, and many small side-streets too. If you are into your chicken tikka, tandoori meats and rendangs as well as nasi and mee goreng, this is the place to go. Great choices everywhere!

We had a great meal of tandoori mutton, chicken tikka biryani, nasi goreng, garlic naan and a small portion of beef rendang with 2 chilled lime juices (great!) all for about £9 sterling! Talk about value!

The restaurant was quite large, named Kapitan - no alcohol, it's Muslim, just round the corner from a large mosque ...

It is a little Indian enclave in the midst of a heavily-populated Chinese town. It is known as "Little India" resided by mostly Indians. You think you are back in New Delhi, India sans the cows strolling in the streets. Little India is right in town from Beach Street to Pitt Street within walking distance to the other local attractions that include World Heritage sites designated by UNESCO.

Commerce is alive and thriving here. The streets burst with big and small shops that sell sacks of dried chilies, grain, turmeric, and lentils. Mom-and-pop stores hawk bright bangles, earrings, colorful saris, and Indian food. Garlands of fresh flowers. Motorcycles, bicycles, and haphazardly-parked cars. Pedestrians. No cows. No dung.

Sit down for a nice lunch of "Nasi Kandar" (rice and an assortment of curries) at a coffee shop or a roadside stall. The venue makes no difference because both foods are cheap, delicious, and hot, especially, under an even hotter tropical sun.

Stroll around. Delight in the people. Immerse in the culture. Open your mind. Smell the various colliding spices. Shake to the lively indian music blasted to the streets. No charge. Just enjoy. Highly recommended. Truly delightful. Fun!

Great to walk along to get a taste of Little India and all things Indian within Penang. There are restaurants, street food and souvenir shopping all mixed in with the locals going about their daily business. More of a pass through than a have to go see
