A sign reads "You've NEVER been to Penang unless you've been to Penang Hill".
Well, it could be true, but... I was a bit disappointed (maybe I had to high expectations ?) : queue for tickets, expensive rate for the funicular, not much sight-seeings on the top...
The best thing to do is to climb the hill by foot (there are some stairs going from the bus stop to the top), chill-out a bit on the top, enjoy the view, and climb down... well... you need to love sport and to be at least a little bit fit :)

You have to buy a ticket for the cable car. It is extremely crowded on the weekends. The view at the top is nice but it is not worth the time and energy to just see a different view of the city. Not much to do at the top of the hill either. There is a temple, restaurant and an owl museum. Owl Museum is just a small shop filled with different types of owl art and sculptures.

Make this your number one thing to do on your list when visiting Penang. The views are stunning on a non-Haley day!

Friends and I decided to walk up the hill. It was about 5km and some of it was very steep. We saw monkeys on the way which was cool to see them in their natural habitat. The long walk made reaching the top an accomplishment but there wasn't much of a great view due to the haze. It's a tourist trap up there where you have to pay quite a lot of money to do things. We took a tram ride down for 17 ringgit each. It was a nice ride down with great views.
