Choose this place after staying in a shoe box room in KL as we found it had all the facilities we were after including in room safe, queen bed, bathroom, window, air con and even a flat screen tv and excellent wifi'which is a must! Yes it is very dated but if that bothers you look elsewhere. it is only a 5 minute stroll to the Main Street where all the bars and hawkers centres as suggested by lonely planet guide are which is great.
It also has a beautiful roof top terrace where breakfast (toast, cereal, tea coffee and juice) is included every morning. Overall would definitely recommend for someone looking for space and location there is plenty of room to really unpack, spread out and make yourself really at home :-)

No denying this hotel has seen better days. For the money though, it was by far the largest room I've stayed in in Malaysia. We had floor space, a fridge, coffee table and chairs, bath with shower over and even a little balcony! The sheets and towels were threadbare and patched and the room was clean but desperately in need of decoration. Stay here if you value space and room to breathe over modern finishing and decor.

There is no denying that the Mingood has seen better days, but the cost, location and friendly staff is what really stands out. The hotel is old but clean, rooms are equipped with fridge, tv and good quality air-con, furthermore the staff were great.

I was surprised on the location how convenient it is. I stayed only for a night in Penang so my hotel didn't need to be lavished! Am on a budget anyway!

It's walking distance to the Upper Penang Road where night life begins. I had a massage nearby and right next to the massage place was a British pub so I grabbed a beer then off went home in this hotel. My aircon isn't working though but I didn't bother cos I'm not really an aircon person. I'm just thankful that they allowed me early check in at 8:30am so far, it's more than enough for me.

Stayed 3 nights there. Had to as Dragon Boat racing was on and Georgetown vacancies hard to get..
A 1 star hotel. It is well worn. First impressions were right. The hotel is old and run down,

First complaint was the shower. It would not adjust and water would only come out in a stream. The maintenance man came and fiddled around and just shrugged his shoulders, nothing to be done.
The drainage pipe under the washbasin was leaking, hence water over the floor. The aircon rattled and could not sleep.
The tv is shoved above a cupboard with limited viewing angle. Towels are thin and look dirty.
The so called restaurant on rooftop is very basic. Toast , butter, jam or marmite. Cordial or coffee.
Yes the staff is friendly and plenty of English spoken. They have a good library but try and get a key? I wanted to exchange a book and was told no key, why don'y you read the book again?
Yes the position is great . The one reddeming feature.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel.
