A lot of food options. Really liked the wanton mee. We ordered a char kuay tiao and the entrance of an alley, near a fruit stall. It was alright but not the best we've tried in penang. We also tried granny's omelette and it was very nice (although cooked by a young man).

Word of caution: when we sat down to eat wanton mee the drinks lady pestered us to order drinks and said that we had to order a drink to sit there. We paid 2.50 for a can of 100 plus.

Our hotel was on Chulia Street, it is one of main arteries of the city and very lively. Character changes from day to night as the businesses close and the restaurants and street food get going.

Chulia Street is one of the oldest roads in the city of George Town in Penang .. Created soon after the founding of George Town in 1786, it forms a part of the city's Little India enclave ever since, whilst also boasting a multicultural character due to Indian Muslim and Chinese influences .. that's why we find a good mix of food offerings up & down chulia street ..

The stalls take over the street every evening, starting fr 6pm into the wee hrs, 2am ..

Png favs, curry mee, char keow teow, hokkien mee, wonton mee, muah chee .. more ..

A good food experience ...

Chulia street is backpacker party central, but still worth a visit if you're not into that. Some of the local street food is outstanding.

It's in the Heritage zone so many of the buildings are interesting as historical artifacts.

Also, if you need a visa for Thailand but don't want to go to the Thai consulate yourself, you can find an agent who will do it for a very reasonable price.

Way too much choice! At the intersection with Carnarvon. Seating is at a premium here, so come early to grab a table. There is plenty to choose from - at least twenty stalls, all offering mainly traditional Penang street food. Its very busy with locals, which says more for the quality here than I can. I tried the Wan Tan Mee, an excellent broth loaded with handmade meat wan tons, (the filling was excellent!), pork slices, greens and Mee noodles. There was also room for a plate full of pork satay, very nicely seasoned and grilled, with a decent peanut sauce, but not as good as you’ll find in the hawker markets of Singapore. You could eat here every night for a week (not open before six pm), and never eat the same thing twice, unless you wanted to, which you likely would! They cater mostly to the locals, so the prices are fair.
