Whenever I was in Kota Kinabalu, I would visit the Wishbone Cafe at Jesselton Hotel and ordered the signature dish Hainanese chicken rice as it was considered by many to be the best in town. Some years ago, to my disappointment, Wishbone disappeared and was replaced by Bella Italia, an Italian restaurant serving Italian, but also Latin and Mediterranean cuisines. However, on request they will produce an Asian menu with 3-4 of their then popular dishes such as the chicken rice and chicken curry. I continue to frequent Bella Italia for the Asian food menu whenever I was in KK (even though the food was found to be inferior to that of Wishbone’s, but still considered ok). I refused to sample the Italian, Latin and Mediterranean cuisines as surely these cannot be better than those from restaurants of Southern Europe and South America. The place was pleasant, plain and clean with minimal décor. The service was good, but the food was average. Bella Italian classed itself as a formal Italian restaurant; yet serving Latin, Mediterranean and Asian Food may sound strange to some, and surely will not appeal to the food connoisseurs.
