Excellent price/value ratio: rooms are clean and comfortable and swimming pool is a great extra. Hotel is not particularly charming, but if you're looking for a clean comfortable place, it perfectly fills its role. Too bad it's a bit far from the sea, but the hotel has a free shuttle.

We had booked to stay at the Novotel for 3 nights but moved into the Meridien in town after just one night. We had booked a Premier Executive room which we assumed would be a 'Club room' with the appropriate facilities. We had requested a room with a nice view of Mount Kinabalu and were given a room with a nice view of the One Borneo bright blue roof! On making enquiries we discovered that none of the rooms in the hotel have a view of Mount Kinabalu because the hotel next door blocks the view. The staff at the reception were totally lacking in charm and really quite badly organized and unhelpful. The room was okay, big but a bit spartan in design, lacking in tables and chairs and with very poor room lighting. The bathroom was nice and well maintained. The bed was large and comfortable but the air-con was quite noisy and was a bit disturbing. The pool area which looked quite nice on the hotel website was not very inviting, mostly concrete with very little greenery and relatively few loungers. The Fitness Center was a 15 square foot room with 5 pieces of equipment in it! The Premier Executive Club which was supposed to be on the 19th floor had been transferred to the second floor and was located in a dark windowless room with two large flat-screen TV's, a few tables and chairs and not much else. Evening drinks began at 5 p.m. but no alcohol was available, only 'mocktails'. The snacks consisted of some not very appealing dried out cheese sandwiches, some greasy spring rolls and some hilarious heart-shaped chicken nuggets. That was it! Needless to say we were the only people in the lounge! The only redeeming feature of our stay was the buffet breakfast in the morning in their restaurant- a nice selection of everything (including the heart-shaped chicken nuggets!) The shuttle bus to town left, not from the hotel, but from the far end of One Borneo, a good 10 minute walk from the Novotel. There was a printed schedule so we booked the 6 p.m. shuttle into KK and arrived a few minutes early only to be told that it wasn't going to leave until 6.30 p.m. as the drivers were having their break!

All in all a very disappointing stay at the Novotel. If I were the General Manager of this hotel I would be quite embarrassed as it offers very little for the money it charges its clients. We moved to Le Meridien in town and had a wonderful 3 days there! So be forewarned, the Novotel might not be what you are expecting!

Right, this is yet another Accor property that is let down by the woeful reservations system and the ensuing confusion and unwillingness of fron office staff to fix your booking. We booked this Hotel online and asked for adjoining rooms (we have 3 young children), and paid for an upgrade to superior rooms.

On our arrival, we were offered two standard rooms on two different floors. When we said this was not acceptable and referred to our booking, we were met with a host of blank stares at their computer screen. No explanantion, no apology, nothing. We stood around in the foyer with 3 tired children for nearly an hour. during that time we were then offered two rooms on the same floor.

Hello to Novotel : 'adjoining' means 'next to each other'.

We were then offered to standard adjoining rooms which would be 'upgraded' to superior rooms.ie - housekeeping would configure the rooms to include robes, minibar, bathroom products etc.

Despite repeated requests, this did not occur until the last day.

The rooms themselves are quite nice, although some of the fittings are already breaking (poor quality), and the fridge in the secondd room never worked (nevermind, the minibar was never stocked anyway).

The gym is sparse and the equipment is a bit flimsy, but the pool area is quite nice.

The property sits over a large shopping clompex, including cinemas and indoor archery (which our boys loved). It is quite a way out of the centre of town, but there is a regular and reliable free shuttlebus (and once you have seen how dirty some parts of town are, and the number of touts, you might consider the distance a good thing). A taxi ride to the airport will cost between 50-70MR.

Note to concierge: if I ask where I can hire a car, telling me "in town" is a bit light on for directions.

Now, that aside - the quality of the food is exceptional, and the restaurant staff and chefs are the shining lights of this property. Staff were friendly, took interest and paid special attentiont to our children, always had a table ready for us, and remembered us each morning.
A big hello and thank you to Chef and his team who also took special care of our children.
Overall, the hotel is great value for money. The food is superb and the restaurant (and pool) staff are great.
BUT, Accor take note. This is one in a string of your properties that failed in other areas. This time, we did not even get what we paid for, further demonstrating that your Advantage Plus program is a complete joke.

I went with two of my colleagues to stay at Novotel 1Borneo, being an Accor Member. I booked for two rooms, twin & single bed room and upon check-in, one of the room is still not ready even though we arrived at the hotel at 7.00pm. After taking our dinner, the reception promised us that the room key will be delivered to our room. But to our disappointment, the room key is still unavailable. I also realised that the housekeeper does not do a thorough check on the amenities when the room is available for the next guest to check-in, e.g. no slippers & bathrobes.

In order to improve the service, the housekeeper should ensure that all amenities are available such as having an inventory list and put a tick against each item that has been place in the room. I hope it will improve when we visit this hotel the next time when we check-in.

The Novotel was a lovely place for a base to experience Borneo. Assess to shopping and alternative places to eat (ie outside the hotel where prices were cheaper) and taxis etc was great. You are a good 25 min out of the centre of town but taxis are always available. Rooms are very comfortable and staff very obliging. A great base for an adventure into different cultures.

We booked a month in advance, and the price is valued, with 2 adults and 2 children buffet breakfast included. What else do you expect? An extra free single bed available for our family, and there are additional toiletries, towel.

We were so upset when the staff made many mistakes. The reception was not that familar with the ACCOR booking. We registered at 10.00am and could not locate us when we checked in at 12.30pm. They need to register us again. We took the room keys and departed to other places and we told them to send our luggage to our room. When I went back to hotel room at night around 8.00pm, the luggages were still not in the room. I slept around 10pm and someone ring my door bell. I woke up and nobody was there. I slept again and later the housekeeper asked whether I ordered any extra bed and i told them I did not. My sleep was interrupted for few times. I found that their service was very poor. There were many little things more especially many room and phone messages for us regarding signing the for documents for extra payments and documents for ACCOR staying. Very bad experience for me and my spouse. Maybe our expectation was too high for Novotel Hotel. We stayed at KL Novotel before and they have very good staff and services.
