We were thrilled to dine here, we were so looking forward to a change after a week of pleasant but bland Mabul isle cuisine.
The added bonus was a stunning sunset over the harbour.
You can dine inside in airconditioned comfort, but we much preferred the jetty in the balmy evening air and watching people walking past.
Certainly recommended especially in a small town like KK for something different with a feel of being "in the thick of things" if you could be in such a small town!
We dined here twice-Its all I craved after climbing Mount Kinabalu!

We had thought that coming to the Far East we'd be able to get a good a curry, and given the Tripadvsor rating we expected somenting a bit special. The meal was OK, and reasonable priced at around £80 for 5 all in, and that's with a lot of Tiger.....

However, the food really was nothing much. First of all my chicken curry came swimming in a lot of sauce with little else. This would have been OK for a UK takeaway but in a better restaurant I'd have hoped for more varied discernable flavours and textures. Secondly, although they kindly ask how spicy you'd like your food, the actual dish bears no resemblance to the request. My wife asked for medium, my eldest son and I asked for spicy, but all three of us got mild. My second son who asked for no spice at all had the hottest of all of us.

The location is great, right on the waterfront, and as it seems to be one of the cheapest restaurants there it really is good value, but sadly nothing special.

The Good: The place has a very nice ambiance. You can also watch the chef make and bake cheese naan and other breads.
The Bad: Bland Kohinoor curry which was supposed to be their specialty. It was a heavy gravy like you would make on Thanksgiving Day. Chicken Tandoori was 1/2 a chicken thrown on a plate that was dry and tasteless. You're better off at Kentucky Fried Chicken. Poor food quality and even worse presentation.
The Ugly: Our waittress was completely disinterested and clearly did not enjoy her job. Couldn't get her attention. Other waiters made no effort at a smile. There were at least 3 tables trying to get some kind of assistance and were quite upset and annoyed. Forget about getting a refill on your drinks. Clearly, the owner was not around ... and the "manager" was ineffective.
Recommendation: Don't go here! Try Mai Yai Thai Orchid which is a few steps up the waterfront. We had 3 excellent meals

Its not fine dining, the surroundings are simple no fuss dining. It was however a damned good curry. We had onion bahjis to start, and Chicken Tikka Masala (Medium) the HOT is for chilli heads believe me). The Naan bread was light and piping hot and the rice fluffy, so you cannot really ask for much more, oh and the price for 2 drinks, a small curry, rice, two naans and bahjis........... 64myr ($20.50au) . The staff were attentive and the food was cooked fresh, it doesn't come any better than that. Its a simple restaurant that focusses on good tasty food.

We a group of 14 went early at about 6:30 fr dinner at this waterfront hotel in the heart of Kinabalu. The chef was a nice young handsome and simple guy from Garhwal, India and we made specific special request to him about authenticy of the kid of indian food we would like.

Great ambiance as we chose to eat at the outdoor next to waterfront at the time of sunset, service was good but the food was very bad - either cooked in haste or its usual there as one could really taste the under-cooked herbs and spices in all the curries which tasted alike. chicken was good and so were the breads but for someone like me who can cook myself, it was a very bad job at cooking curries so strict NO NO or else one can give it a fair trial shot by going their late in the evening.
