“Disgusting”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

We stayed for 1 night, but we wanted to leave even before that. It was like living in 'Joe's Apartment', the walls were covered in some black fungus and there was so much cockroaches. We checked in the afternoon, on the 3rd floor and it was all fine. Then we went out for dinner, when we returned there was a cockroach on our pillow, there was one in the bathroom, and another one on the floor. We asked the front desk if they had any cockroach repellent spray, but they didnt. Eventually we had to go out and get the spray ourselves. We killed about 5. And finally settled in to sleep, and thought all was fine when several more appeared. It was just too much and we asked for a room change. We got shifted to the second floor, which was better. No sight of cockroaches.

There are much better lodges in the area for the same price.

Stayed 3 nights - it's cheap but still too expensive.

Cons - cramped cramped room, no windows, bootleg accordion-like bathroom door.

Pros - good wifi and decent Air con. Maybe the fact that I didn't like KK (Kota Kinabalu) reflects on my opinion of this place too.

Stayed for 2 nights. Cheap! Great location, but it was nothing special. The rooms were ok, the staff nice, the breakfast ok and the "living room" a nice place to chill. The electricity was not working for 1 afternoon, but worked when we came back from our trip.

For the price you get a lot - we paid 60ringit for an aircon double room with private bathroom ( hot shower) and included basic breakfast.

Unfortunately our room had a leaky ceiling - right onto the bed. We managed to move the bed a bit to avoid most of the drops.

If you want a cheap room then go for it. We stayed in to other places in KK which were 20ringit more expensive but I would choose them over summer lodge next time.

This place looks like good value when you see it online. 70RM for an aircon room with private bathroom. Wait until you start making your way upstairs. The stairs are rank and full of dirty marks up the walls. The staff are rude and literally just handed me the key and took my money. When we reached the rooms, the door handle pretty much fell out of our hands and the room was dark and pretty grim. Stains on the walls and hair in the bed. Sleepsheets it was for us. Onlu good thing about this place was the aircon cooled us down.

I stayed here for 2 nights and it was grotty. The staff are nice but don't speak much English and I think they have a resident rat. The room's where not clean and the mattresses where very badly stained. WiFi was good, but I didn't feel safe the outer door didn't lock. I was very surprise to see this hostel in the Lonely Planet!

Small budget hostel located in a very good spot. Rooms are tiny, some with no windows, a bit run-down. We've encountered some bed bugs/ants in our room, forcing us to change to other room on higher floor. Staff is friendly and helpful, wifi is good. Breakfasts are very basic-coffee/tea and toast. For a short stay in a cheap place-acceptable spot.
