“Somebody tried to get into our room!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2014

You might considering this hotel for just a good night sleep in the city. But dont be fooled with the price and the location. There are many other city hotels around town you can stay. we stayed there for 1 night and were kept awake by the sound of the toilet flushed repeatedly above our room. The plumbing was really bad we thought that it might collapse. This happened throughout the night and we really could not sleep.

The rooms equipped with access card at the corridor and the room door, but early morning there was I believe another guest barging into our room with an access card while we were sleeping. Luckily the chain lock stopped them from coming in. When we called the receptionist, he said that it must be the maintenance staff!! I dont know any hotel staff that can get into the room without knocking or acknowledging themself first. They must have messed up the reservation and blamed it on their maintenance staff.

The room is more to a 70's themed but that was none of my concern since all I wanted was to stay in an affordable, accessible hotel spot that really locates in the heart of the city. But what bothers me most was the leakage of one of the pipes in the bathroom. It does not end there. The door seemed to have 'lost' it's chain. Annoying blur tv screen. Heater only works when the shower is on low setting. The carpet floor should be replaced..it looks very dirty. No refrigerator. The leakage and door problem had us move in another room right away but the card does not seem to access in opening the door so we had their men use several keys to unlock it. That was a very long unpleasant time as we had to pack our things all over before moving. A quick move leads to a long one. We finally moved from the 3rd floor to another room which locates on the 2nd floor. Another irritating problem - wifi does not work at all. It surprises me how excellent the wifi used to be when we were on the 3rd floor. Having to walk over to the lobby for a quick internet surfing was really irritating. It does work, but we can't spend more time surfing as much as we used to in our room. Moreover, the lobby seats and sofa needs to be replaced too. The hotel needs a makeover. I can only say the nicest things about their staff. Some are friendly. Some ignorant. Cheap hotel though but it's not highly recommended. It's a 2 star hotel but it's more like a 1 star to me. Sorry, but it is what it is!

No refrigerator, the carpet is dirty, the heater is not working, the toilet pump is not working and we can't lock the door because it's broken. Service is okay though and the front desk attendance is friendly. Wifi is free, but if you happened to stay at 1st or 2nd floor, the connection is very poor.

Highly recommend not staying here! We did not book into this hotel we booked through Otels and were meant to stay at the other Celyn Hotel but we arrived there to no booking and were transferred here. Room was tiny, dirty, could not access the room until maintenance came with a drill! Awoke to no hot showers I have travelled the world in back packer accommodation and this hotel does not even come close to the worst backpackers I have stayed in.

Simple Hotel. Deco is nice. Some rooms will face the internal part of Shopping Center (Warisan Square). However, you need to walk up one flight of stairs. You need to find your own breakfast, not to worry it is walking distance to many restaurants. It is close to Api-Apr Center as well. Here you will find banks as well.

This hotel is now known as Celyn City Hotel !

Main points:
+ve: location inside Warisan Square - shopping area & a 7-11 downstairs - nice lcd tv

-ve: needs cleaner mattress

first impression was wow, amazing location inside warisan square, there is a 7-11 and eateries downstairs. there is also starbucks next door. there's an escalator that brings you to the lobby and reception and lift access for hotel room. doors to hotel rooms are card entry and seem secure. on first glance of the room, it looks good but we later realised it is small, but then for the price, this was good value. lcd tv has some channels though wish they had bbc or cnn on. there is a safe deposit box, no mini-bar or fridge. during our stay the safe deposit box was originally inaccessible and it took them 2 reminders and 24 hours to actually send the maintenance guy to open it. so definitely not impressed with that our main complaint for the place was that the mattress was not clean, there was a dried large BLOOD stain underneath the mattress covers. the mattress covers were old and did not stay in place as the elastic band holding it was torn. we dont understand why no one bothered to replace this ! the shower looks good & modern but it is small these rooms are good value and definitely good for 1 night stays.

***There is a free shuttle bus next door that takes you to the massive 1Borneo shopping complex - you need to get the free tickets about 30 minutes or earlier. This could save you up to rm50 (each way) for taxi ride to 1Borneo

We used this hotel for the start and finish point of a guided tour of Sabah. For that purpose it is ok given that the rooms are very tight with little space to place suitcases.there is no frig and you need to go offsite for breakfast. On the plus side it is close to the wharf restaurant s and markets. Also free wifi. Reception staff friendly and can converse in English.
Bottom line: best for an inexpensive one night stay.
