“A cozy and spacious lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

Checked in at J today and was surprise to see the room n bathroom were so spacious. They have dvds for u to watch which makes it a plus point if u r bored. Surronding is filled with lush greenery and serenity amd they even have a bbq pit/common area.

What i expexted more was the water pressure of the showers, they were quite low. Would be great if there is mat to dry your feet in the room. Other than that, no complaints.

Location wise is quite convenient with the national park jz 300m and easy access to 2 reataurants nearby (walking distance)..

Overall its value for money and worth it =]

Nice place to stay. Just perfect for 4 of us. Room 5B have the greatest view. Close to National Park with walking distance. 5 Star for J.Residence. Near with restaurant but make sure to bring your own socks. shivering out there! :)

Big thumb up!

Room Tip: Nicest view from balcony - Room 5B

Strategy location, clean room, good price, beautiful and nice place with helpful staff.
But if you are a light sleeper, advisable to take the both room (A & B) in one chalet..
Because the floor made up by wooden and the any moving from neighbour room might cause some annoying. Basically my neighbour (next room, gosh..... they talking till very late night...... :
and they let their car engine start and on for at least half hour at the very ealry morning.. the sounds are very annoying..... -X

Room Tip: Room 5A & 5B, but 5B is better, advisable take the both A&B room for more privacy and quiet...

I don't actually have to write anything good about J Residence, since everybody already has.

It's great value, stunning views, clean enough and with the kind of amenities you'd expect from a budget hotel at 5000 feet.

If you don't like bugs, don't book. But then again, if you don't like bugs you probably shouldn't visit Mt. Kinabalu at all.

Anyway, as the title suggests, this is like a 5 star resort for back packers, but for us, it just proved too damn cold. If you come, don't make the mistake of thinking temperatures are going to be hitting any mid 20's or 30's. The mountain is cold, wet and unforgiving. Bring Gore-Tex, Fleece, Wool, extra socks and hiking boots.

Awesome place, but only for the adventurous.

Stayed at House 1, bed was nice, clean & comfy. Bathroom was ok, mossy but clean.
Really loving the peaceful & quiet surrounding. Felt like camping in the forest but with nice bed to sleep in. Mossy, damp smell in the room but bearable.
Loved the glass wall/door/window, allowed maximum view of the forest. Couldn't wait to open the windows in the morning to smell the fresh mountain air and hear the sound of insects & birds.
Water heater was working fine. Staff was great and friendly. The receptionist even let me choose & borrow few more DVDs other than those provided in the room.
Cold mornings, misty afternoons & even colder nights but 3D2N wasn't enough. Would've extended the stay there a few more days if it wasn't fully booked. Definitely, definitely will be back!

Getting there was an easy task as the road is just straight all the way from town and the place is along the main road. But, it would be best to arrive during the say as the "J Residence" sign is hard to notice unless you are really looking for one. The road down to the rooms is scary as it is narrow and steep so it would be advisable to just park on top and carry your bags down (if you don't have much bags of course). You can imagine how scary it was for us to drive back up that steep road with a manual car. :P

The lady at the reception was nice and efficient. She even informed us of certain places we should go while we are here. The room was simple and minimal and suspended with a long patio and swing overlooking the gorgeous mountains. THAT was the plus point of this hotel. Mind you, once it reaches around 5@6pm, you better be out and about finding for food in time to snuggle and eat in the room as the temperature will get low. It was really really cold at night. And the hardest part to endure was when the temperature is so cold that even you don't feel any warmth/heat from the water heater while taking a shower. :O (or.. maybe the heater wasn't working well)

Overall, I would recommend this place as it is affordable, cozy and near to the Mount Kinabalu Park/Entrance.
