“Convenient location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2012

Just a stone throw away from a shopping mall, Suria Sabah which houses restaurants, stores and a supermarket. A very convenient location especially for family with young children. Jesselton Jetty is only a minute drive from the hotel.

Hotel staff are friendly and helpful.

No baby cot is available and limited parking space.

Excellent location. Totally quiet in room. Try to get a room with ocean view. City views not bad. Pleasant staff. My room/bathroom was fresh, good a/c, ref, safe, iron, hair dryer, good lights, nice linens, carpet was stained which seemed odd but stopped seeing that after a few days. Great location. Breakfast not so great and same daily mostly Asian choices BUT you can sit outside with a sea view which made up for it. The lack of wifi/internet was frustrating and wish the staff had told me days ealier on that wifi is at the Upper Star restaurant just across the street open until 2 am, as well as the Coffee Bean a block away and many other places. The other crazy thing is when you look on the web for reservations the cost per night, for me, ranged from $34-49 per night. The lower rate did not include breakfast, but both were pre-paid/non-refundable. Sophia in the lobby was very sweet and helpful for arranging day trip to Mt. Kinalabu, island hopping for snorkling, 2-3 night tours to eastern Borneo, day (40 min by plane) tour to Brunei, KM 15 ride to airport. Don't miss Bike Borneo (no info in Gaya lobby) as a great way to see the area villages via mt. bike.

Room Tip: No pool, gym, restaurant but plenty of local good places to eat and city is a walking city.

Stayed in gaya centre recently and it was great! The room was spacious, bed was comfortable and our room had a good view of the city. Except for the toilet, ul think that ur in a 4 or 5 star hotel. The free breakfast was okay- the usual beehoon, sausages, egg, fried rice, etc.

There's a relatively large mall just across the hotel- the food court offers al fresco dining overlooking the sea. There are also markets and souveneir centers within walking distance from the hotel. Cab fare to the airport is rm30.

A few comments tho--
No wifi / internet in the room
No supply of toothbrush or room slippers
Limited channels on tv (tho u wont stay much in the room anyway)
Shower area can get flooded because the drain is too small

Highly recommended and if i go back to kk i'l stay in this hotel again.

Thank God, we just arrived from Kota Kinabalu last night. We stayed at KK from Friday afternoon till Monday afternoon, 3 nights/4 days. Its good we chose this place. Nice location, indeed, and the hotel itself, the room, comfort room are all clean. Aircon works fine, with ref and complimentary water and coffee in the room. No pool. The service is good and its just a walk to the waterfront where people just enjoy the sea, though its smelly there (cant stand it). Booking includes a nice buffet breakfast, fruits, veggies, rice, noodles, cereal, pudding, bread with spread, sausage and beans and the usual drinks. We enjoyed 2 breakfast but the 3rd one seems boring coz the same choices.

Wifi is complimentary but on the lobby only, however, for 2 days the wifi isnt working. This makes it so hard for us coz we have to check on important things from time to time on the internet. This hotel is in the middle of 2 not so big malls which makes it easy for us to buy food. About 5-10 minutes walk to Jesselton wharf where we took a boat to take us to Manukan and Sapi islands with white sand beaches.

The night market is also 10 minutes from the hotel. Taxis are lined up in front of the hotel. On our last night, we ordered food to our room and not bad, good serving and value.
Nice shower, too. I would recommend this hotel.

Can't complain given this is one of the best value buys in KK. It's a little far from the centre, though the town is so small along the seafront that's not a big deal. Right next to a major shopping centre, which is very helpful. Unfortunately, the LAN connection in the room didn't work. Reception told me that when the hotel is fully booked, it sometimes didn't work, and their IT guy was working on it. Oddly, they didn't mention this issue when I asked about the LAN on arrival. Wi Fi in the lobby worked, but given the free internet in the rooms is one of their main differences to others, this was disappointing. Breakfast was ok, and you can sit outside with a sea view - the views are certainly one of this hotel's pluses.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views, if possible.

firstly, it was a good location hotel, which is situated just beside Suria Sabah. from here, it is just 1 minute from the waterfront, where u can enjoy sunset during evening time. secondly, the service was good. Friendly and helpful staff will keep service you during the buffet style breakfast. Thirdly, the buffet style breakfast was great, with variety of choices! they have english breakfast, salads , porridge, fried rice or fried mee, curry chicken, fruits, cereal and lots of toast and etc...take how much u able to eat! i never seen the buffet bar empty, because the staff was keep topping up the food! Lastly, they got clean and comfort room with plasma tv, good pressure shower, small fridge and tea-making facilities. get the higher floor room facing to sea, you will have a wonderful sea view.

We found this hotel to be much overrated. To start on the upside, the rooms were by and large clean (although small), and the sewage/plumbery in the bathroom was not well done, so that most of the time there was a smell in the bathroom. Further the staff was relatively normal although we found it unnecessary to have two people checking us in at breakfast and then the rest of the personnel walking in the way with plates when taking breakfast. The breakfast room was a large room, unpleasant, although luckily we could sit outside which is still ok. The breakfast itself was not great and there was no wifi in the rooms. In short, basically this is more of a typical place for some of those large group tours which do not add comfort to a trip. In short, the real rating of this hotel would hover somewhere between two and three star, but since they insisted to make our small son pay for a full breakfast even though we had paid for him at check-in and there was a mistake in the processing, we finally rate this as a two. To be sure, the breakfast was not expensive but to insist on such extra money as income made no sense to us; in order to avoid further hassle we just paid and left for a nicer place.
