“cheap, musty, ants, was glad to leave”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Booked this place as we wanted somewhere near the airport after a late arrival.
The room was musty smelling, rather tatty and grubby. I had lots of small ants in my room.
I didn't use the shower as it was full of hair.
Breakfast wasn't great, and the dining room staff really didn't seem interested in doing anything. The reception staff were much more polite and helpful.
The location is ideal for the airport. The beach a few minutes walk away is lovely.
The shuttle bus seems hit and miss. We were told we could not use the shuttle to the airport as it finished running at 11am and we weren't leaving until the afternoon.
Wifi worked in lobby.
Yes the hotel is cheap, but I would still expect a clean room.

Pros

-very near at the airport. You can avail the FREE airport pick up or drop off OR u can walk since it's few minutes walk from the airport (15-20 mins walk). No need for cab, which costs RM 30.

-Casuarina provides FREE shuttle going to city proper. That's RM 30 savings for the cab! You can even ask the driver to drop you off to where you're exactly going (like at Gaya st. Or any mall at the city proper, just make sure to ask the receptionist for the time or schedule of the shuttle going to the town because It depends to the availability of the driver).

-Casuarina is just next to Perdana park, which also has restaurants, a place to stay to kill time, jog or even watch their "water fountain show" which starts at 7PM sharp.

-Casuarina is just few minutes going to the seaside restaurants and Tanjung Aru beach.

-Free decent breakfast.

-very spacious rooms.

-late check out (3Pm) costs only RM 20 and

-great customer service. Receptionists are extremely helpful and accommodating.

CONS
-FREE airport pick up and drop off-- has conditions. From 9am-7pm or depends on the availability of the driver. Otherwise, WALK---saves u RM 30.

-room always smell cigarette even we chose the non-smoking room. (We stayed at twin room during 3 nights stay and double room during 2 nights stay) Not spotless clean.

-Ref. And safe in the room are not functioning. Clogged sink and ONLY 1 English Channel.

-WIFI available only at the lobby.

Overall, I still strongly recommend Casuarina because of Pros and convenience or accessibility it offers. Stayed here for 3 nights and we're supposed to stay 2 nights at a different b & b after our Legoland trip. But weighing the adv. of Casuarina, we stayed another two nights here. With very cost effective price, casuarina rocks!

We only stayed for one night. Would happily have stayed for another couple. Free airport transfer was waiting for us on arrival and the return trip to the airport was also fine. The hotel is close to the airport and the beach. Breakfast was a set american, just warm (not hot) in keeping with all our food experiences in Borneo. We booked a third bed in our room (the family room was unavailable) which turned out to be a mattress on the floor! Our room had a balcony. And the room was only set up for two (towels, glasses etc) although housekeeping did respond to our request another set of amenities quite quickly. And replaced the broken fridge at our request. Wi-fi was only available in the lobby (not rooms) but we knew that. The front desk staff are not very welcoming at all but check in and check out was quick and easy. The room was clean enough and the shower room was quite roomy with plenty of hot water and surfaces to put your toiletries, very welcome after staying in a basic lodge in Sukau! There is a musical water show at the next door park every evening, we missed it but would be worth a look for those there early in the evening.

We stayed here for a night to catch an early flight to Sandakan. We did not regret it. This place is a walking distance to the beach. You can hang out by the beach all day and walk back to the hotel. At night, restaurants nearby are plenty.
Though basic but its adequate for us. Hotel is clean, reasonably priced and most of all they offer free shuttle to the airport. We didnt manage to catch the free breakfast as our flight was very early.
Overall a Good Hotel if you want to just stay up for a night at two and enjoy the beach .

This hotel must be very popular with visitors who have to catch early flights from the KK International Airport. The room rates are reasonable and they offer free airport transfer.

We stayed 2 separate nights. 1st stay- enroute to Sandakan. 2nd stay- on the way back to Singapore.

1st night - everything went well. The airport shuttle was there when we arrived and we had a good night's sleep before flying off to Sandakan the next day.

2nd stay - when we flew from Sandakan back to KK, the shuttle wasn't there. We waited 20-30 minutes and decided to book a taxi (RM30). Just after having paid for the taxi, the shuttle showed up. At the hotel, we asked if the taxi fare can be refunded, they could not do anything about the fare, but they waived the charges for an extra mattress for our niece (RM30), who is the 3rd occupant in the room. For that, we were grateful and appreciated the gesture.

The breakfast is a standard american breakfast with 2 pieces of toast, sausages, baked beans and an egg with coffee/tea. For our niece, we just need to top up RM5 for her breakfast.

We like to walk to the Tanjung Aru Beach for our dinners while staying at the hotel. The food centre has a wide variety of choices available. The seafood is really fresh and worth the price. There are also 1 or 2 other restaurants, but they are probably much more expensive than the food centre.

Good for tourists who want to stay near the airport and the beach.

i book this hotel because of the location...close to the airport T2 KKIA and free shuttle service to airport as well. for those who enjoy eateries and spent their evening with leisure and relaxation, this hotel should be in your list, because Tanjung Aru Beach and Perdana PArk are just walking distance. unfortunate thing, there is no wi-fi in the room. so if you want to get connected freely, enjoy it at the lobby. breakfast also available, but if you did'n get your breakfast in the early morning, they will provide sandwiches for you especially for those who wants to leave early morning to the airport.
