The shop was with air-conditional, clean, not very big, once inside you can smell the nice herbal aroma that lingers in the shop. The boss prepares the ingredients and condiments himself, quality is ensured. The fish broth was so fresh and sweet, fish slices were big and thick, 4 of us we had about 1.2kg of fresh meat which was plentiful. We ordered some fish balls as well, personally I don't think that's a necessary unless you love them. Yam rice was a popular order too, with chunky yam cubes and slices of Chinese mushrooms.

Prepare to fork out at least RM200 if you have 3 person and more. We were very satisfied with the meal. We would expect to pay a lot more for a meal like this in KL if there was one..

This was my 5th time visiting here..
The order was taken by owner himself n prepared by him too. Waiting time is fast n soon the steamboat pot is on our table.
Every piece is irrisistible and the thickness of loong dan fish is abt 5-6 mm .. Wow! My fav bite!
The soup never fails for a two thumbs up. Yam rice is good too
Both of us finished the soup as well; nothing left..
Lastly bill ... Whooping rm150 for two which the loong dan fetch rm200/kg... Though expensive but no regrets for fish lover....

Sri Maju Steamboat is located in Asia City in KK - close walking distance from the Cititel hotel. From the outside it looks like a normal basic coffeeshop/restaurant - quite unassuming - it has a green signboard with "SRI MAJU STEAMBOAT" in caps.

Had dinner here with my uncle, cousin and her friend.

It's has a typical steamboat restaurant setup - there's a steamboat pot in the middle of the table, with a gas knob control to adjust the fire - the waitresses will fill your pot with broth and your choice of fish and soup ingredients. It's not a buffet steamboat though, so you basically order the ingredients you want and pay accordingly.

We ordered 1.2kg of "loong dan" fish (something like a giant grouper fish) for the steamboat broth. You can order several types of fish, depending on what's available. The owner is very friendly, he'll help you to make your choice.

The fish was very fresh and delicious! had big chunks of it with lots of cartilege (?) - its supposed to be very nutritious. The broth was naturally sweet, flavoured by the fresh fish, it also had slices of yam, red dates, a bit of ginseng (if my tongue tells me correctly!). You can also order vegetables, beef slices, etc to be added into your steamboat broth. The broth reminds me of homemade soups, without MSG and very heart warming!

They serve their special yam rice.. rice cooked just nice with shallots and bits of yam. Probably one of the best yam rice I've had too!

I haven't got any pictures sadly.. google "Sri Maju Steamboat Kota Kinabalu" and you'll find some really good reviews.

Note of caution though, the loong dan fish is expensive! about RM130/kg... which works out to something like USD 40/kg. But it is WORTH it!! Definitely recommended by me, two thumbs up!
