“Best trip in KK”

Loved every minute of this trip, collected from our hotel in morning, seating on train already allocated. Train carriages done to a great standard, continental breakfast starts you on your journey through borneo on route to 2 stops, one visiting a chinese temple and end of the line is papar, which has a great local market. On way back you are served a lunch in metal towers which is fantastic, had 3 main dishes, fresh fruit and then an unexpected ice cream to top the journey, staff excellent and make you feel special

“Blast from the Past”

What a great way to spend your day!. Form the time you arrive to the time you leave you feel special. What a wonderful sight to see all the children waving and smiling as this old steam train makes it way through to the little towns.

The pastries for morning tea were very plentiful and went down a treat with the cuppa. The Tiffan lunch was absolutely delicious. If you are worried about the seafood or meat go for the vegetarian which was also extremely tasty. After your short stops you get a cold towel when you step back on the train along with a bottle of water, which was very appreciated as it is extremely hot and humid (fans on the roof of the people with as did the little fans you were given when you boarded). The train also holds about 80 people with 2 people per table (one facing forward, one facing backwards). Couldn't think of much we would change. Nice cold beer and ice cream to boot. Also there was a Western style toilet in each carriage, very clean.

Could maybe do with a bit longer stop at Papar as it was a bit rushed. Thanks to the Sutera for re-instating this train trip as it is something so different and very enjoyable.

“Back to the History...”

If you love to know the historical of South East Asia then it shouldn't be a problem for you to see how hard do our ancestors built the nation in finding resources and to bring the better future for us. The experience for me is splendid, feels like British-Malaya Princess. Thanks to Uncle Jual & Irwan for serving us throughout the journey...

Thoroughly enjoyed the day out in this vintage steam strain. It was a nice way to see the Sabah countryside with little effort apart from sit back and enjoy the ride. Nice little touch was to be issued a passport that was stamped at each of the interesting towns we passed through. The staff were great and dressed according to the era. Breakfast was provided at the start of the journey and then a Tiffin lunch on the return journey. Air con was not needed as the train had fans and the windows were open. Part of the fun was the enjoyment of the locals waving as we passed by and even the most stoic passenger could not resist waving at the little kids along the way. I would recommend this short journey for all visitors that can't climb mountains!

“For all train lovers”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Had a fabulous trip down memory lane on this trip.It was like I was back in my childhood, as I come from a family who grew up with railway links, the town I live in being "The Cradle Of The Railways", Shildon , in County Durham, England. Most of my family had at some time worked for the railway and as a child always travelled by train. This trip, from the staffed dressed in those wonderful uniforms and so pleasant and helpful, to the food and drinks, and every one we passed waving and smiling, it was a trip I would not have missed.
