The hotel lacks everything from a mini fridge and the showers are just hopeless. The water heater doesn’t work 3/4 of the time , u also need to call to get your rooms cleaned , no stationeries – not even a pen could be found. My room was next to the laundry / maid room , so I had people walking and making noise constantly around the corner( so much for the term a hotel feel !) .Sadly the price is pretty pricey for u to get the job done yourself , I have no idea why its called a boutique hotel , cost it seems like a BUDGET hotel more then anything… or maybe an an " escort" house.
Also a very uncooperative hotel as I had to shorten my trip due to a last minute update and still they will not refund even after I agreed to pay for a whole one day even when I’m not there . Rubbish is more the word i wld use for this hotel ....

ZaraBH, Manager at Zara's Boutique Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 25 July 2012

As this is our first response on tripadvisor, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you all our valued guests & and tripadvisor for providing productive feedback & services for travellers. Furthermore, we greatly appreciate when guests take the time to write a review, including constructive critisism, which assists in our efforts to ensure the guests have a comfortable and positive experience while staying at our hotel.
However, in light of luludains comments, and in order to provide a proper response, we had conducted a comprehensive investigation on all of the issues highlighted in luludains review, such as our staff S.O.P. compliance in all areas, and refund policies etc.
Firstly, we apologise for any unpleasant issues that may be encountered by any our guests from time to time. To this extent, we do our best to address and mitigate any issues that a guest may have during their stay, rather than ex de facto, which to us is counter-productive. If a guest is dissatisfied with a room location for example, we certainly accomodate a room change until the guest is content.
Unfortunately, as it relates to luludains comments, we have come to the conclusion that the review is disingenious at best and unnecessarily inflammatory regarding the term's used such as "escort house", which we find exceptionally regrettable. Such defamatory comments really detracts from the legitimate reviews posted here at tripadvisor. To this extent, tripadvisor staff do have open invitation to visit our hotel anytime to review our premises as we feel it's important to provide potential travellers who use tripadvisor a fair and reasonable opinion of our hotel.
That being said, we feel compelled to address luludains other concerns outlined in their review in order to provide more clarity to potential travellers.

1) Mini fridges are available upon request at no cost. All that's required is to phone the front desk or housekeeping. Or, upon check-in, please make a request.
2) Engineering confirmed there have been no issues with any water heaters. Since luludains review, the hotel has reached over 90% occupany several times. Therefore, if there were any issues, it would have been noted. It's important to note that the hotel is just over 1 year old.
3) If the guest was dissatisfied with the location of their room (ie next to the maid's quarters), we would have happily relocated; especially if a guest is staying several nights. We are not sure why no request was made by luludains.
4) If a guest requires any stationary or a pen, we are more than pleased to provide upon request. In addition, a business center is located on the 1st floor.
5) Regarding refunds; we certainly appreciate that travel itineraries do change, specifically for business travellers. Therefore, we do our best to accomodate and have provided refunds to guests that required early checkouts. All we ask is for some form of travel (re)confirmation reflecting the changes, which we feel is a reasonable request. We also follow and honour the applicable cancellation policies when a booking is made through the various online travel agents.

Last but not least, we are striving to
Be a responsible organisation which give back to the
society , to this extend we do provide practical training to
student aspiring to be hotelier , but they are always accompanied by a senior staff.

To all of our customers, thank you for your support and look forward to serving you again in the future.

I stayed here for three nights with my boyfriend and overall I'm a bit disappointed with the hotel. I booked through AsiaRooms and paid about $55 USD a night. The hotel had very basic amenities and was far away from the action. There were some restaurants and a 7/11 convenient store near-by, but that's about it. It's about a 30-minute walk or a 13 MYR cab ride to the central part of town.

Upon arrival, the hotel lobby is very basic looking, nothing like what the hotel showed online. We stayed in the superior deluxe room and although it was very spacious, it lacked the smaller details. For example, bathroom only had shower and shampoo gel. The shower lacked a door or proper drainage system so the bathroom floor instantly got flooded whenever I showered. There was no fridge or extra towels. However, the room did have a safe, kettle and iron. I wouldn't really call Zara a 'boutique' hotel.

Upon checking out, they wanted to charge me extra for the room and I had to show them my booking with the quoted price. It took them a good 30 minutes to fix this issue -- apparently they didn't have a record of my booking and were hesitate to amend the invoice as the manager wasn't there.

In addition, when I left and wanted them to call a taxi to the airport, one of the girls (possibly new) referred me to the private rental car service. When I told her that I didn't want to pay extra for a limo service and just wanted a normal taxi, she said that she didn't know the number for the taxi (although previously the people working at the reception desk have called a cab for me numerous of times). After 15 minutes of confusion and waiting around, another employee came to the desk and was able to resolve the issue quickly.

Overall, my stay at Zara Hotel was just okay and not great or fantastic. It's probably an affordable and a good place to stay if you're just in KK for a night, but you can definitely find better deals at a more central location.

Room Tip: The Superior Deluxe Room isn't all-that fantastic. I would probably just go for the Deluxe.

Near to airport. Besides main road. Close to shops & restaurants. Basic facilities provided. No fridge in room, no in-house cafe. No porter service, but price is on the high side. With all those, just wonder why did they call BOUTIQUE HOTEL?

A relatively new hotel so the amenities are were quite new. The room was quite spacious and the view from the window were nice (we stayed at the suite room or something). The only thing that annoys me a bit was the fact that we had to tell them to clean up our room everyday we were there, since according to the receptionist, the cleaning crew didn't dare to come near our room since it's the suite room. It doesn't make sense to me but then again i'm willing to let it go since the staff were quite nice. And make sure that you have your own transportation if you are unwilling to walk quite a distance to town. But they do have 7eleven, a bank & a couple of good restaurants nearby
