“Rock Climbing and Scuba Diving - Brilliant!”
Reviewed 23 March 2012

We stumbled across Field Skills on a Guardian feature about their work in the Lake District and discovered they put on activities in Borneo where we were due to visit!

We promptly booked a Scuba taster day and outdoor rock climbing and enquired about a Mt Kinabalu climb. Christine was extremely helpful in organising the first two, and gave us advice on how to organise the climb (even though they would not be able to sort it for us and would therefore receive no money!).

The activities were great, very well organised from start to finish - the rock climbing was a particular highlight - we were driven out to the jungle with some local instructors who helped us up the rock. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and welcoming and I'd definitely book with them again.

“Sabah (Borneo) round-trip by bicycle - an exciting and well-organized holiday”
Reviewed 22 February 2012

Together with two other travellers (from Australia and USA) I went on this 10 day round trip on biycle of the state of Sabah/Borneo organized by Fieldskills. Borneo is not the typical place to travel on bicycle, but it was really a nice experience. The organization was superb, we had two local guides, one of them with us on the bike, the other one following us by car all across our journey (including luggage and bike transport, snacks, drinks). We went both on main roads (some traffic, yes, but car drivers being very careful) and off-road (certainly the nicest parts). Along our way we passed beautiful and diverse tropical landscapes with plenty of opportuniities to take photos. Our route: Kota Kinabalu - Tuaran - Teluk Usukan - Kota Marudu - Kudat - Tip of Borneo - Maranjak Rungus Longhouse - Mt. Kinabalu National Park - Poring Hot Springs - Sabah Tea Garden - Sepilok - Sanadakan. We had a nice variety of accomodation ranging from very comfortable hotels (Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan) over small guest house to the typical for Borneo longhouses. For lunch / dinner we went to typical small restaurants to get a taste of the local cuisine - something I really liked a lot. Our guides from Fieldskills (Alex and Joe) were very careful in driving, always eager to find the nicest tracks and did everything to offer a perfect organization. So I could really enjoy this trip. My personal highlights were: crossing suspension bridges on the bike, staying at beautiful beaches on the west coast of Sabah, the wonderful landscape around the tip of borneo, spending a night at a traditional Rungus longhouse and a short hike in Mt. Kinabalu National Park. I can highly recommend this tour organized by Fieldskills. “Excellent day out”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

FieldSkills were very responsive on booking - even though we were contacting them at the last minute - and very professional and friendly on the day. Even though something unpredictable happened (a pedal had been cross threaded into the crank shaft, and simply fell off, requiring a new bike half way through), they were able to sort it out swiftly, cheerfully, and with a minimum of fuss. Options for different levels (skill and energy!), beautiful scenery which we wouldn't otherwise have got to see. Highly recommended.
