“Good snorkelling, hardly any litter.”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

I visited Sapi by myself, rather than as a tour. In my opinion it is easy enough to do yourself so save yourself a lot of money and do it alone. I got my ticket from the Beach Bums counter at Jesselton, it was 30RM for the crossing and jetty fees, and 10RM to hire a snorkel and lifejacket. There is also a 10RM fee for non Malaysians when you arrive on the island. You can leave your bags on a table under the Beach Bums gazebo where an employee of theirs stays to look after them. There are also plenty of tables and chairs here to sit in the shade. The snorkelling is pretty good, I had never done it before and really enjoyed it. There was more variety of fish in the snorkelling section to the right of the jetty (from as you enter island) but I found visibility better on the other side. I had read a lot about litter on the various islands, while snorkelling I saw maybe one bottle near to shore and that was it. There is a nice small section of beach on the right side but arrive early to get this. There are BBQ lunches available and also a cafe, where there are meals available for around RM5-10. Drinks and crisps are available in a hut, water and soft drinks are RM3 each. The trail around the island takes around 40 minutes, the path is quite a scramble at places and there is one steep climb that lasts a while. I found several monitor lizards blocking the path towards the end which seemed to be reluctant to move. Earliest time to return to KK is 1pm as far as I could tell. If it is bad weather the crossing is quite uncomfortable, although protected from above on the boats the wind and rain comes straight at your face which was quite painful. Overall a good day out and would return. When the sky is blue you can get some great photos with white sand, clear sea, green trees and blue sky - paradise!

“Lots of dead coral”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

The view is no doubt beautiful, sea water is clean and beautiful view. But the island and beaches are very small. Snorkeling there wasn't a pleasant experience either, there're lots of dead coral, easily injured if we didn't swim and accidentally stood on it.

“Decent coral for a snorkeling spot”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Had decent coral and fist for a shallow spot. Make sure to snorkel to the left of the jetty not just to the right where most of the people are. its a little deeper and more colorfull.
