“A rare gem!”
Reviewed 1 December 2012 via mobile

I'm at hotel sixty3 right now.

It's smack in the city - location is great for business / shopping / food but because its a city hotel, there's no view to speak of.

View apart, the service is warm and friendly. The hotel is a surprising twist from the lobby - totally surprising!
In fact, the inside of the hotel's architecture is fantastic!

Room are large and well furnished. I can see that the hotel and its rooms are newly renovated - so new that the anti-slip tiles in the toilet still feel very "raw" to the barefoot.

I took the normal room - comes with 2 queen beds. My traveling party took the executive room - comes with a king size bed, a full size fold out sofa bed and still space for a rollaway bed.

On the rollaway bed, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from reception that I was entitled to a rollaway bed. Of all the hotels (of this price category), nobody has ever called to offer me that.

The rollaway bed was SUPERIOR to some I had in 5star hotels that cost 4 times more. The rollaway bed here was a proper coil-spring mattress, not some lousy sponge mattress resting on a spring platform.

I was equally impressed by the 4 bottles of bottled water, and the recycled shopping bag provided to all rooms foc. Wonderful!

Tho I hope they will keep up the standard. It's new now, so everything's looking good and works well.

Oh, by the way there's free wifi and daily newspapers too. :)
*thumbs up*

Hotel Sixty3, at 63 Jalan Gaya (formerly Bond Street during colonial times when Britain ruled Kinabalu and Kinabalu was known as Jesselton) , Kota Kinabalu , opened one year ago and already has established itself as lone of the premier hotels to stay at while visiting Sabah, East Malaysia on the Island of Borneo. The rooms are spacious, offering everything from Standard rooms to Superior, Family accommodation and Luxury rooms. There are 100 rooms available in six stories with a reading and relaxing room on floor one. Hotel Sixty3 is not the cheapest hotel in Kinabalu, but you really cannot go past the newness of the Hotel Sixty3 and the location. The staff is friendly and efficient. Walk-in bookings are accepted if a room is available but you can get a cheaper rate if you go to their website and book on the internet. Coffee and tea making facilities are available in all rooms as is ironing board, iron, and small refrigerator. There is no mini-bar as one must remember you are in a Islamic Country (alcohol is permitted and you can purchase takeaway alcohol at many locations). The hotel even supplies umbrellas for inclimate weather as the weather changes without much warning during the wet season on Borneo during the months of September through the end of December. There are only two seasons on Borneo, Wet and Dry.
One drawback with Hotel Sixty3, there is no restaurant. You must got purchase a RM 10 voucher from the front desk and go to one of Kinabalu’s oldest hotels, the Hotel Jesselton, half a block away. Jalan Gaya has many attractions as well as a myriad of restaurants, small cafés and bakeries; featuring everything from Western dishes to Oriental, even Vietnamese at the Peppermint.
Hotel Sixty3 is a RM 30 from the International airport. For more information you can go to their website www.hotelsixty3.com.

Room Tip: Book on their website for cheaper rates

We (2 adults + 2 kids) was staying hotel 63,Jalan Gaya, KK from 10-12 NOV 2012. The hotel have a very strategic location right in front of Sabah Tourism Centre and near to restaurants and shopping mall, and even jetty. The hotel is clean, room is spacious and comfortable and the staffs are friendly and helpful. It is definitely a value stay for family of 4 like us. Well done 63 !!

I had an extra night in Kota Kinabalu and I was tired of staying at budget hotels. I chose this place because it was centrally locate next to all the banks, walking distance to the mall, had a killer breakfast across the street.

The hotel it self reminded me of a modern city hotel. It had all the amenities you could ask for. The lobby looks kinda eh... but the rooms reminded me of a W hotel.

Great value... highly recommended

This is a great value, and deservedly popular. I was unable to stay here a second time at the end of my trip because they were full. But I would've.

The pluses: modern decor, especially shower area; love the rainfall shower. Comfortable firm bed. Courtesy umbrellas in the closet, courtesy newspapers. Very friendly staff, and they reacted instantly when I asked for fresh coffee supplies which the maid forgot. Stairs available.

The glitches: While the A/C is quiet and effective, its setpoint seems to wander. For example, I went to bed with it set for 23°, but it was cranking out 20° when I woke up, brr. The doors SLAM if you just let go of them - at least in my room it did, and it echoes through the hotel. Need some little rubber stoppers, please.

Ideally located at the end of Gaya street Sixty3 hotel has been recently built in an converted office block (I was told that the lobby was formerly and antiques shop). The rooms are of very generous size; the furniture is clean and modern; the service is friendly and cool. Only the (free) Internet does not really work. You can get promotion rates when booking online. This hotel is quite often full
