The hotel is located at a very central place for most things. Jesselton point for a ferry ride to islands is a ten mins walk/short taxi ride away. You can simply walk to the waterfront across the road to see a beautiful sunset. For everything from food to gadgets, the center point mall is across the road. So in short if there's anything that you need, it's just a short walk away from Klagan.

Most of the famous tour operators are located nearby and the fact that you can simply walk to their offices is quite helpful, given the unpredictable nature of things in kota kinabalu.

The breakfast is nice and there's surely a lot of variety. wifi worked without any problems. The air-conditioning was a bit too hot for our taste even at it's coolest setting, but to be fair we had a corner room with a huge window and most of the days were extremely hot outside.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view as you get to see a beautiful sunset from corner rooms.

It always comes down to price, facilities and location and to be fair, for the price paid the Klagen scored well on all points. It's right in the middle of the 'action' in Kota Kinabalu, close to the night markets, across from the Esplanade and with a major shopping centre across the rear access street. The lobby is small (and often seemed crowded) and set out in an unusual way in that usually lobbies have somewhere to sit while waiting for people, but here the seated area was part of the 'lobby bar' and cordoned off from the actual lobby.

It is quite a large hotel and we had asked for a quiet room away from the lifts which meant it was quite a hike ... but it was indeed quiet and we had a waterfront room with great views. The room itself was large with plenty of space to spread out. The bathroom was fabulous with a full size tub and a rain shower with good water pressure and room to splash around. A newspaper was provided every morning which was fun to read and a good way of keeping up with things.

The wifi as mentioned by other reviewers was patchy and often dropped out ... but for quick emails etc it was adequate most of the time.

Breakfast appeared to be a large spread but wasn't particularly inspiring. I almost think they try to offer too many choices and in a way should focus on doing fewer things well. There was an omelette station, pancakes, waffles, pastries, breads. The Asian dishes not quite as flavoursome as I expected.... and a little bit oily.

The most entertaining part of our stay was that there were local celebrities staying there whilst filming a TV show and the crowds in the lobby trying to get photos was fun to watch in the mornings whilst waiting for our tour pick ups.

Room Tip: Quiet rooms away from the lifts may have an ocean view!

Hotel was convenient location but I would have preferred others, bathroom good but bedroom very dark and dated. Hotel was very big and easy to find but the thought of going back there. I would rather pay a bit more, on the way back stayed at the Hyatt massive difference!

Comfortable rooms in a good location, but the wifi was worse than useless. I had to go to the local Le Meridien hotel lobby to check my emails and when you've paid for a hotel with wifi it is rather annoying to have such inconvenience.
I stayed for 4 days/nights and the wifi was consistently bad. Over 90% of the time pages timed out. Luckily I have a Malaysian SIM with data so could use my phone for urgent messages. It is a good job!
Next time I would spend more money and just stay at the Meridien. I like it when things work.
The breakfast selection was uninspiring, but the view from the restaurant was beautiful.
If you're looking for somewhere affordable in a reasonable location downtown then this hotel is an option, but if you need connectivity try elsewhere.

Ten of our family members visited KK June 18 to 21, 2014. The room assigned to me (and my wife) was spacious and clean. I have excellent view of both the water front and Mount Kinabalu. Staffs are friendly and the breakfast is reasonably good. Best of all is the location of the hotel. There are many eateries and several nice seafood restaurants in the neighborhood within walking distance. However, the hotel lobby is rather small.

Rooms are spacious and well furnished. Free wifi available

Good view from the breakfast area. Buffet selection is good as well.

However some training rooms are rather uncomfortable and snacks served were poor.

Basic hotel. Perfect for those travelling on business.
