“Truly paradise!”
Reviewed 5 March 2010

The resort is located in a stunning location by the beach and surprisingly, its just ten minutes away from town and fifteen from the airport.

The lobby is done up in a lovely Asian theme and you'll be welcomed by friendly staff. The rooms have a lovely design and have a balcony from where the view is fabulous. You'll wake up in the morning to a beautiful scenery - the sea, the moutains in the background and blue and green all around you. It's truly paradise!

The resort has a few really great restaurants - I particularly liked Coco Joes where you can dine on the beach listening to a live band. The multicuisine Cafe Tatu is also worth a visit. The traditional torch lighting ceremony at the Sunset Bar is absolutely worth waiting for. Watching the sunset from there was so beautiful, it left me speechless.

There are numerous things to do in the resort - from visitng the spa, playing golf, table tennis, or just taking a walk around taking photos. The resort has its own jetty from where you can go parasailing or head off to the island which is 15 minutes away to go snorkeling or sea walking.

If you happen to be holding an event at this hotel, you can be assured that the food will be great and that the staff will go out of their way to ensure that every aspect of the event is taken care of smoothly.

On the whole, my trip to Kota Kinabalu was a memorable experience because of the lovely people there - will definitely go back some day.

we chose Tanjung Aru for a special holiday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had an upgrade to a seaview room our bed was decorated with rose petals and black pearl earrings for myself a cake flowers and sarongs. The service in the hotel is second to none and a special thanks to James on conceierge who organised several trips for us made a reservation in the Italian restaurant for our anniversary where we were greeted with a decorated table and another cake.. we had a wonderful holiday and would luv to go back

Myself and my husband stayed in the hotel for 2 weeks on our honeymoon, and whilst the hotel is stunning & obviously of 5 star quality, I felt it was important to post our unfortunate experience.

We first went to the check-in desk upon arrival. Check-in was an extended and arduous process & when we finally got our roomcard, we were pretty disappointed to find that our room was a standard garden-view room instead of the Ocean view room we had paid for.
We informed reception & were finally put through to the correct dept. It took 3 more hours before we walked into our oceanview room, with no offer of even a complimentary drink to compensate. It struck me that, had we not stated that it wasnt the correct room, the hotel would have been happy to leave us in the garden room & gain financially from the 'mistake'.
Or perhaps Ive become somewhat mistrustful due to the incident below.

The day we were due to leave the hotel, there was an issue with the door and doorkey. It eventuated that we packed up rather swiftly, with a team of 'engineers' at the door waiting to fix the issue.
Due to the rush, I didnt notice that my engagement ring was missing from the locked hotel safe & didnt notice until I reached home.
Obviously I was very upset & contacted the hotel immediately, 100% certain that the safe was the last place the engagement ring was left.
They stated that they would inverview all people in and out of the room & investigage whether the door had been tampered with. Their investigations came back with nothing!!
I sought legal advice to see if anything further could be done, but was told the costs would potentially outweigh the benefits.
But the fact of the matter is...the door was not tampered with, therefore, it was someone who had access to the room who took the ring from the safe!
..I want to state this to advice people not to put their complete faith in hotel safe & not to leave any valuables in your room at this hotel!

The hotel refused to take any responsibility. In fact they were most unhelpful when it came it obtaining a police statement regarding the incident.
I had to continuously contact the security manager they placed in charge of this investigation. I believe that once we had left the hotel, paid our substantial 2 week bill, that they couldnt have cared less about what was taken from the room.
It was several months later before I finally managed to get the police report sent to me.

Of course, there is no denying that the hotel is luxurious with fantastic views, but overall the experience was very upsetting & disappointing.

The Kinabalu Club was absolutely perfect. Stayed in the Kinabalu Wing, on the Club (5th) floor, with all-day access to the Club Lounge. Service was smooth and swift from the moment we arrived at KK airport. Room was large, comfy and in good condition. We were offered a choice of pillows-- tried the buckwheat and anti-snore (with great success). Hotel's main attraction-- the two gorgeous pools. Everyone had their own spot and it didn't feel at all crowded. Only downside to hotel is the beach which is practically non-existent. We ate at Coco Joe's (by the pools) and Cafe Tatu (splendid dinner buffet).

I love this resort and have been back a few times. It is great if you can get one of their promotions in which case it is good value. The location and ocean views are gorgeous. The rooms are appointed beautifully, and again the views over the bay magnificent. It's a short trip to the beautiful Islands from the resorts jetty although there is no great need to leave the resort.

Our 8 night stay was nothing short of amazing. Everything about this place is fantastic from places to eat to the staff. We ate at every restaurant and found the food superb and the staff even better. Other reviews have criticised the prices but found the food prices in relation to quality more than fair. Why stay at a five star hotel and eat in the local fleapit? No, only joking. I did not consider any of the prices for food or drink (except wine) excessive. And if you want a bargain go to the nightclub on a Friday and Satuday night and enjoy some very reasonably priced cocktails. The staff deserve a special mention for their impeccable service and being nice friendly people. (especially Artur). Overall, trip of a lfetime. (Till the next time)

Great hotel. Upgraded to Club which was ideal with our grandchild. Had breakfast and happy hour/tea in the Club Lounge where the staff was most attentive and the place not only had spectacular views it was much quieter that the other public rooms.
