“Hotel staff extremely helpful”

Had been well and truly forewarned about renovations so could not complain about that situation. Found staff to be extremely helpful and friendly throughout our stay. If they maintained that level of service together with new pool surroundings it will be a fantastic place to holiday. Little touches like bookmark left by in novel I was reading on bed side table left a nice impression.

we booked via travel agent and found the entire trip not impressive maybe due to the renovation work.We have 33 of us travelled 21st to 23rd Jan. Some of the nice views are blocked especially cafe Tatu but we were told by Mohd Sheronnizam, Business Development Manager we were able to enjoy our breakfast seeing the beach, during the package negotiation stage. & we were promised by agent all our rooms were seaview but unfortunately the free upgraded suite was again distracted by the construction view and minor noise. We had our meeting on Saturday with client in a nice meeting room with seaview in Kinabalu room 2 but forced to close the curtain because of the strong sunlight reflection so didn't enjoy much of the view again. another big disappointment was the unfriendly counter staffs whom didn't inform us that the room key will be automatically disabled if we check out after 12pm, under the circumstance where we informed them 1 day before check-out and they noted that down. this caused 20+ of us locked out from the rooms back from team building activities after 12pm and had to walk all the way to the counter and requested for room card key reactivation. not even a single apology when this thing happened! the reason gave by a lady staff was :" yes we've noted your group late check-out in our system but the card key is very sensitive to magnet and mobile phone so can't open the room" which i think very ridiculous and i was really mad!! 22nd night, we had a group discussion after dinner around 10pm in room suite 322 and waited more than 30minutes for simple drinks to arrive, which turned up after more than 3 times chase-up calls. this was again pre-brief by me to the staff that we were going to have a discussion but turned up long waited room services. on the other side, the counter staffs were reluctant to help with name of restaurants and hotspots in town, conversation ended with both of them shaking their head pretended not familiar with Kk town & didn't understand english well. i didn't expect this from Shangri-La's i thought they should be famour for top quality services....& i'm shameful being the organizer for this trip.

Thank you for staying with us recently and for taking the time to post your feedback.

I am terribly sorry that our upgrading work was more extensive than your expectation and that upgrading your group to our quieter Tanjung Wing still had some minor noise.

I am extremely distressed that we did not provide our usual standards of service during your stay and must apologize for our numerous shortcomings.

I have personally investigated and am working with our team on fixing some of the issues you have identified and improving our delivery of service standards to the quality level that they should be.

The problems you pointed out with our food and beverage and front office are indeed not acceptable and again, not to our standards. I agree with you that these types of issues should not be present at all and in particular during our upgrading period. At the end of the day the responsibility for this lies with me and I assure you that myself and the management team will be doubling our efforts to ensure we do not have repeat occurrences such as you experienced.

I do trust that you may give us the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to improvement and I would be delighted to personally handle any further communication with you.

Stayed at this hotel from from 28 Dec to 1 Jan 2011. Staff were extremely friendly and full points to Jomeh from conceirge for excellent service. All staff were most helpfull. The spa however I feel is a bit overated and expensive. The kids club was exceptional.

We enjoyed every minute staying in S.T.A.R, as they call it — excellent room, incredibly friendly and accommodating staff, superior breakfasts. The hotel was undergoing some renovation at the time when we stayed there, the pools were closed and we went twice to their sister resort in Rasa Ria to have a swim — and never regretted that we had chosen STAR eventually. It might be just the best place to stay in Kota Kinabalu.

We stayed here during the 2010 Christmas holidays. This is a beautiful resort and the current renovation did not bother us at all. Room was clean and comfortable. Spotless bathroom with amenities refilled everyday. There was a small fridge with complimentary bottles of water and soft drinks. A bottle of champagne, fruit plate and a plate of cookies and cakes were awaiting us in our room upon check -in. Hotel manager manager called to greet us upon check-in which was a nice touch. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. Excellent kids club facility and was my daughter's highlight of the stay. This resort made us feel very welcome and we will definitely be back in the near future.

We stay in this hotel from 11 to 14 Dec 10 and it was a nice and spacious. However, I was rather put off when I discovered that the toilet was filthy when we 1st checked in to our room. I called the house keeping and they got it cleaned up fast.

The breakfast spread at the Tatu was quite good but the waffles were below par.

Check out the Shang Palace restaurant, it's quite good and prices were reasonable..

Lastly, I would want to compliment the staff at the resort, they were friendly and helpful which had made our stay there wonderful.
