“Helpful staff, great gym and breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

We stayed for three nights at the Palace Hotel in July. We had a great stay and found the staff especially ray the manage super helpful. He spoke English very well and help us find directions, fixed my moms computer and even printed out a map for us. The pool was great, there is a nature hike that you should try behind the hotel and that gym is the nicest gym I've seen in Asia. The price was very reasonable for the quality. There is a free shuttle to town too. I would stay again for sure!

We stayed here after hiking Mt Kinabalu as we noticed that they had a pool and wanted to relax a bit. Unfortunately due to other plans we were never able to use it, but we did manage to swing by and it seemed reasonable. Overall though the hotel was comfortable, but we had a couple of issues. First it took us a couple of attempts to get the correct room. We had booked a king sized room and they'd set us up in a room with two twin beds. We eventually got this straightened out but the new room didn't have any towels. That was fairly easily remedied, but not what I'd expect in a 4 star hotel.

As for the location, it was a bit far away from the main downtown stretch but it was walkable if you're an active person. For those coming off the mountain, note that this hotel is on a hill and that's probably the last thing you'll want to see for a few days.

One additional note, the water in the restaurant is insanely overpriced. I believe it was something like MR18 for 500ml, where as you can simply walk a couple of blocks and pick the same thing up for MR1.5.

Checked in for one night stay in the hotel, was given two adjoining single beds, called the reception to ask to change room. Staff said will call back to the room after checking. Waited in the room for bout 10 mins but no call came, so we went down to the reception. No staff was seen making the effort to check for room availability so we decided to ask verbally. Was given a straight response of No :( Overall, room is just ok, Toilet can be cleaner as ants were found in there. Didn't like the flapping shade at night.

Pool was ok.. but water was murky.

However, we're very impressed with the breakfast selection and food was good too. Absolutely love the waffles and nasi lemak!

Overall, it's not too bad for the price paid. Wouldn't mind going back again.

Room Tip: If you book online, do book room with windows, else you will be assigned rooms in basement. (reviews...

We only stayed here overnght passing through to go to another location. The hotel was clean and there's a lovely lobby. Receptionist was not timely with the check in or out. We also had requested a taxi at a certain time the night before, but still waited 30 minutes for one to arrive. Overall, rooms were pretty and clean and the bed was comfortable. Also the location isn't the best as it sits up on a hill not close to much. The restaurant at the hotel may have had a good breakfast, but the dinner was horrible.

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel, nothing much to complain about. The hotel is situated on a hill, so you have to walk a while to get food.
Stayed in the Deluxe room, which was spacious and clean. Wifi connection was quite strong. Only thing is that the walls are quite thin, you can hear people closing the door, walking, talking. Also, the door to my room is a bit jammed, had to slam it real hard for it to close properly. Breakfast was okay, nothing special.

The only thing I hoped the hotel could improve on was the friendliness of the staffs. They were very serious and hardly smiled. Felt like I was talking to robotic staffs throughout my stay.

It was a nice and quiet place where you would like to stay for a holiday or business trip. The hotel is situated on top of a low rise hill even though it is not very high; giving you a good view of the surroundings. the breakfast was superb. Room & toilet , was clean, brightly lighted, large enough for two of us. The carpark was very spacious.

Wife and I stayed at the Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu Sabah Malaysia for 4 nights June of 2013. Both of us are very seasoned travelers, so we know a nice hotel when we stay in one. We picked the Palace due to other reviews and are glad we did. The hotels service and staff was excellent. The restaurant manager ,"John," does an excellent job keeping the restaurant fully staffed and seeing to it that all the guest enjoy their meals there. The breakfast that comes with your room was a very wide variety of things, and all was very good. Since part of my background has covered home renovation in the USA, I noticed 3 minor issues with our room, to which I jotted down and left with the front desk clerk. To my surprise 2 maint. men appeared at our door, "412," within a few minutes and corrected these minor issues immediately. It is a 25 minute walk down to the water front, "which the wife and I did twice, down and back," but they do offer a shuttle bus 3 times daily if you would rather ride. The staff also are very good at arranging local sight seeing trips for their guest also. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with all that we would expect from a 4 star hotel. We would definitely stay there on our next trip to Kota Kinabalu. Mr. Eric A. H.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the hill, or back of hotel and on a upper floor, "3 - 4 - 5."
