“Much needed luxury”
Reviewed 15 June 2011

We stayed here after climbing Mount Kinabalu. Staff were lovely, room was beautiful, food was excellent.

The pool and spa were nice for sore muscles. Beds were extremely comfortable with nice linens.

The staff were amused by my hobbling and showed me the easiest, stair free ways to get around the hotel. Concierge managed to arrange a lovely dinner for us at a nearby Italian restaurant. In general, people were thoughtful, helpful and informative.

Location was good for exploring the city some. Close to the jetty for access to snorkeling and diving tours.

Room Tip: All the rooms we had were great.

Staff are well trained and the room was clean, modern and well equipped. Location is central, next to a shopping center as well.

Stayed at this hotel with two adults and two children (ages 7 & 9). Room was great, staff gave us two foldaway beds for the kids with no hesitation. Staff were the friendliest we have come across and would go out of their way to help you. Location was fantastic with small shopping mall next door and within walking distance of all markets and food outlets within the city. Food within the hotel was very nice, a different theme for the buffet every night and a good variety (The naan breads are worth going there for alone). Fantastic cake shop in the foyer where you only pay RM4.50 per slice after 7pm. We will be returning.

Room Tip: Seaview room is great

We moved to this hotel after 6 nights at Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort.
Location in the city was good and the sea views from room on 10th floor amazing.
Walking distance to most areas in the city.
Room was recently renovated with floorboards and very modern bathroom.
However there was nowhere to dry clothes or swimwear and no hooks in bathroom which was annoying.
The hotel did not appear to us to be tourist friendly, rather it was business traveller friendly.
There was hardly any seating in the lobby, only 2 hard benches and four seats around a small table, which was mostly occupied. The lobby was rather large but where was the seating???
To get to the pool from the lifts you had to walk through a restaurant, and after swimming, you had to walk back thru the restaurant with wet clothing. It made you not want to use the pool.

We were on the 9th floor- newly renovated [since Jan 11 staff said] room with expansive superb magnificent sea views. A great place to open a bottle of bubbly and watch the sun set over the islands. The bed is huge and great, the shower also has a monsoon shower which I like and the whole design of the room gets 10/10.

The hotel is located a walking distance from the fish markets and the jetty to catch a boat across to the islands - which we found to be OK nothing spectacular.

The Delicatessen does great croissants and the Mosaics coffee shop has friendly staff and decent coffee.

The pool area is pretty nice compared to Le Meridien although the attendant staff albeit friendly have no clue about service or service standards! However, it seemed that there might be more things happening around the Le Meridien.

The gym is fine and the spa service can be a hit (my partner loved his massage) or miss (I hated mine and couldn't wait for the hour to end!).

Overall, I would recommend this hotel IF you wanted to stay in KK but the question is why on earth would you go to KK? I would miss the place completely and rate it the worst holiday destination I have ever been to but that is another review completely.

Stayed twice over April - May . First 2 nights had seaview king rooms. Very spacious, comfortable & terrific views over waterfront & islands. Buffet meals are all excellent. Staff very helpful despite a mix up on the 3rd night. Would stay again.

I spent two weeks travelling through Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand with my teenagers - 15 and 17 - and the Hyatt Regency was a touch of luxury that we delighted in. From the moment we got out of the taxi all the staff were friendly and always ready to help. Particular thanks to Grace who could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Our room was spacious, perfectly clean with a huge plasma TV which my 15 year old son loved. Bathrobes and slippers, plenty of towels- changed twice a day if you wanted- an ironing board and iron, well stocked mini bar and fresh milk provided for my tea! in a jug that I kept in the fridge, bathroom with a choice of showers and alongside the usual soaps and shampoos there were razors, toothbrushes.... huge twin beds, fabulous pillows and the third bed that they put in the room was a proper bed! In the morning I ordered room service for breakfast as this was cheaper than the buffet breakfast and we could order what we knew we would eat. The swimming pool was to die for and had a great view over the sea to the off shore islands. Thank you Hyatt Regency, we loved staying with you.
