The hotel star rating in Sabah compared to the world seems to be different. In my opinion this hotel should be only rated 2 star if compared to any other hotel elsewhere.
Upon checking in, they will provide only 1 key card. The keycard comes with a reminder note about the number of towel they provide and how they will charge you if anyone of the towel goes missing. So much for hospitality.
You again later reminded everywhere in the room about missing towel and charges. The towels are not that great to begin with if anyone likes to steal them.
We we told that breakfast coupon will be send to the room. Didn't happen. I had to request from the front desk the next day. Not an issue, wish they kept their word.
We had the Superior room and paid RM 200++. The room was quite small and to our horror, the furniture seem so antic. They still use CRT TV which the audio was out of sync for certain channel. The hotel seem to have limited non-smoking room, but thankfully our room didn't stank of cigarette smell.
The pillow was the worst, it was not fluffy and was quite flat. The bedsheet had stains. The lighting in the room is poor where by it's only brighten by the bedside lamp.
The toilet has seen better days. There was a rusting at one part of the bath tub and you had to stand in the bath tub to shower. However the shower head is placed quite low which is not convenient to shower especially if you are taller than 5'. Toilet flush was not working properly but we made do. Toilet does not come with bidet, minus point for those who uses water. Hot shower was a problem on the first day, the 2nd and 3rd day it was OK.
Service was generally OK. I made several calls and was attended although there was 2 occasions that i had to call twice. The duty manager was suppose to come and reset the safety box. My wife was downstairs while I was waiting outside of the room. My wife told me the duty manager was just doing nothing until I made the second call.
We call to request a new towel, the guy showed up at the door empty handed. We gave our used towel and waited about 10 or so minutes before he showed up with the new ones. Didn't we call specifically requesting a new towel?
We had a sink clogged and maintenance guy showed up and got it fixed. Thumbs up for engineering dept.
I asked the concierge to book a taxi to the airport a day earlier. They had a funny smirk while saying "yes we will book". As suspected, they didn't do anything. Taxi was just waved in from the outside on the next day.
Buffet starts at 6.30 am till 10pm. Should extend longer. Food was generally OK, however food tends to finish fast and refill is a bit slow. Service at this area is sporadic. Some waiter are good and they act fast and some just ignore you.
There is a pastry corner which was recommended by someone. We wanted to buy a cake until we saw a fly was sitting on a cake. We complained to the person in charge and they were trying to shoo off the fly however didn't remove the cake the fly was on. God knows how long it was there and I saw people were buying some cakes after we left.
I don't understand why hotel guest needs to pay parking RM 2 per entry. There is a 45 minutes limit free parking just in front of the hotel, but the guard there sometimes get annoyed if we were to park few times there in a day. Makes no sense. This hotel has no sense of hospitality.
This hotel is next to Centre Point Sabah and WaterFront. There is tons of shops right behind the hotel and Ocean Seafood restaurant is next as well. The location wise is good, but I don't think it's a big plus point as you will still need some form of transportation to get around anyway.
This hotel is generally full because a lot of government staff uses this hotel for functions and etc. No idea why the government loves this hotel.
Looking from the reviews I assume if you take the more expensive rooms like the promenade floor or junior suite, you will have better experience. My personal thought, I will never step into this hotel again.
