Sutera Harbour Resort (The Pacific Sutera & The Magellan Sutera)
Ranked #8 of 92 Hotels in Kota Kinabalu

My family stayed here in room 309 on 14 June 2011, we booked with Theodora Edward (hotel's staff whom was very polite and fast in replies) through emails, we paid RM487 per night. The check-in and check-out was fast and the reception staff was very nice and friendly.

The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was spacious which i like with complimentary soaps & shampoo but remember to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste!

The location is about 10mins taxi ride from the airport which cost us RM30 per way. The hotel also provided shuttle service to the city hourly, think it cost RM3 per adult and kid RM1.50 (not too sure because our family member paid for it.) return and it was less than 10mins ride to Centre Point.

The pool was great, in fact we could use the pools & facilities at the Magellan and the Marina Club too. We loved the view and the whole resort was so clean!

We dined at the Al Fresco Magellan, though the food was expensive but it was very delicious! The complimentary breakfast was good with quite a wide spread!

Overall, we would like to stay here again if we were to visit Kota Kinabalu.

Dear sc_myinitial

Thank you so much for staying with us during your recent holiday trip with your family. It is good to hear from 'happy campers' such as yourself and to learn that our team member, Theodora has performed outstandingly in assisting you with your queries. We have already conveyed your commendations to Theodora.

However, with regards to the room amenities, we do supply our guests with toothpaste and toothbrush; and this could be a case of an oversight from our Housekeeping team. For this, we do apologise.

Once again, thank you for your feedback which is most appreciative and certainly, we look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Sutera Harbour Resort on your next holiday trip to Kota Kinabalu.

Warmest regards
Kattie Hoo

I stayed here 3 nights recently at the Pacific Sutera Wing. It was a disappointing experience. The rooms are old and in need of refurbishment. Food was generally average. I was expecting great things, but I felt let down. There are far better places to stay in and around KK.

Dear dbasha

Thank you for your constructive comments regarding the conditions of the room that was assigned to you during your stay with us and food quality which were not up to your expectation.

For this we extend our apologies and would like to advise that The Pacific Sutera Hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment. We have approximately 100 newly renovated rooms available with the rest of the 400 rooms slotted for refurbishment as well in different stages; with full completion by end of this year. As for the quality of the food, we already have onboard a newly-appointed Executive Chef who is now reviewing all the menus in the restaurants. Chef Martin's new menu will be implemented by August; and with this we hope to offer a wider selection of choice cuisine for all our guests.

Likewise, we have also appointed a new Chinese Chef for Silk Garden Chinese Restaurant and todate we have received very positive feedback in this area.

We do hope that you will give us another opportunity to prove our services to you when you are next in Kota Kinabalu and will not let the above incident marred your impression of Sutera Harbour Resort.

Best regards

Probably the best Hotel in Kota K. The facilities were all very comfortable, and the view excellent. Unfortunately, outside the hotel, not much to do . You may opt to eat at the outside restaurants recommended by the front desk. Or you may shop at the nearby mall- riding their free shuttle.
If you do make it there, The best side trip you can consider is the trip to Mount Kinabalu. If you are lucky, on the way there, you may be able to catch the "largest Flower in the World". Spotters put up signs along the road to tell you they found one and you can pay them a small fine for them to lead you there.

We stayed 10 nights at the Magellan in a club room during May. We got a very good deal online through the hotel website for the room (in a pay before you stay deal).. The room was very spacious and overlooked the pool and ocean. We were aware that these rooms do not have a balcony, but this did not matter really as it was still lovely to have a drink while sitting in the bay window looking out over the view..cool and comfortable. The room was spotless, bathroom huge.

The best part of our stay in the Club room was the pre dinner drinks and snacks/canapes. The staff were wonderful, the food was delicious, and every night the food on offer was different. We felt very spoilt and as we stayed for quite a few nights, we got to know the staff there very well..they were always very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was also wonderful, cooked to order, salmon on pancakes being our favourite!! We also had to leave very early for our flight and rather than just being offered a box breakfast like some hotels do, we had room service at 6am, with eggs, sausages, tomatoes, hash browns, toast, juice etc.

Club room also provides for free wifi in the club room and hotel lobby,,,one drawback with this is that without a balcony to go out on, you cannot get the wifi in the room. However they do provide free internet in the room for a computer, but I just had my iphone, so had to wait until I went downstairs to use it.

The shuttle into town at 3RM was always on time. The pool and surrounds were very well kept. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending the Magellan to fellow travellers.

Room Tip: Club room includes predinner drinks and canapes.

Dear Our_USA_trip

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to post in the review of your recent stay at Sutera Harbour Resort. It is always great to know that we have 'happy campers' and more so, if there are little ones on the trip; and that everyone enjoyed themselves.

We have taken note of your comments with regards to the furniture and in fact, it is in our refurbishment programme for review.

Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing you again next year in Kota Kinabalu. And yes, must agree with you that Kota Kinabalu have everything to offer if not more, compared to Bali!

Warmest regards

We stayed one night here the first night of our honeymoon and one night in the middle as we stopped over on our trip round Sabah. We had a deluxe sea view room in the Pacific Sutera and it was a very nice room indeed, we were pleasantly surprised. We don't usually go for en masse style hotels, but this had a suprisingly personal feel to it. The staff were good, the breakfasts were good and all in all it was very pleasant. I also went to the Magellan for a massage and got the feeling that this may be a little more luxe from walking around the lobby areas - perhaps a little more holiday orientated and the Pacific a little more business focused. Either way, they are both super close to the airport and each other so you can't go wrong if you need easy access to the airport. Only rated 4 instead of 5 as one three occasions the staff answered 'yes' to questions we asked which later turned out to be untrue, just a little annoying when you need your laundry back in time to catch a flight and it turns out that it's not actually possible!

Dear NessieL

Thank you for your positive comments on your recent stay and indeed, we are happy to have made the 1st night of your honeymoon here a memorable one with the exception of the laundry service, which we will look into immediately.

Meanwhile, here's wishing you a happiness always as you start a new chapter in your life with your loved one as husband and wife.

We stayed here for 2 nights - on either side of our Mt Kinabalu climb.

We enjoyed our stay - no complaints. Rooms were clean, service was good, in-room dining (not usually our style as we prefer to go out into local areas for food, but after climbing Mt Kinabalu, staying in can be pretty tempting!) was great.

It's a bit of a trek from town but you can take the hotel shuttle for a small fee (3RM per person, return trip)

The only thing is that it's quite expensive for Sabah...so given the relative expense, you might expect luxury and outstanding service from the hotel. This is not the case (in our experience anyway - it's good, just not outstanding) but again - we enjoyed stay and have no complaints at all.

We would consider this hotel to be over priced for its quality if it wasn't for the discounted rates for Malaysians. The hotel looks dated, and the rooms can do with a much needed refurbishment, especially the bed! We had a room facing the golf course which was fine as we did get a partial view of Mt Kinabalu.
Buffet b'fast selection was rather limited and taste was average. Poolside dining was not fantastic, menu was limited and we had a dish of chicken wings that was partially cooked and had to be returned for further cooking.
Having the golf course nearby made it easier for golfers, the course is beautiful and a nice experience. One more plus point is the proximity of the sea adventure centre which has speed boats to the offshore islands at half hourly intervals.

Dear Jayewp

Thank you so much for your feedback which is very much appreciated. With regards to your comments on the rooms, we would like to advise that The Pacific Sutera Hotel is currently going through a refurbishment exercise, which should be completed by the end of this year.

We have also passed on your comments with regards to F & B and rest assured, our newly-appointed Executive Chef will look into this area for further improvement.

We are however, happy to learn that you are happy with the close proximity of our golf course and water sports facility.

Thank you.
