We stayed in a Maggelan Club room for 1 week. Couldn't fault the service, the breakfast, the facilities, the location. the staff, the free wifi, the free cable internet in the room, the lobby bar. (we spent the latter part of most evenings here)

The room was starting to look a little dated, requires modernising, old style TV. Not that was a big concern as the room was only used for sleeping and showering.

Club lounge evening cocktails and nibblies where great and the food was different each and every night.

Ate a couple of lunches at the pool side restaurant. Excellent service and reasonable prices, pizzas where great.

Close to town 5 or so minutes in a taxi and fixed price (12 MYR to the Waterfront) which is quite unusual for Malaysia. A number of good pubs and restaurants. We ate at the Thai, the large Chinese seafood place (with the floor show) and the Indian twice. We wandered down through the wet market and then into the local food court seafood market area, we where hungry so we walked around and picked up a few different things squid, prawns, chicken bums (thought these where chickin skewers) Eating here once was more than enough. Penang food courts way way better.

Organised through the hotel to visit the orangutan sanctuary at Rasa Ria. 180 MYR round trip plus 65 MYR each to get in. Well worth it.

Island hoping / snorkelling tour through Sea Quest at the marina, 100 MYR each including the gear. Manutik island has the best reef and more sea life.

Overall we had excellent stay and would certainly recommend this resort to anybody.

We recently spent 6 days staying in the club rooms at the Magellan. The holiday was wonderful. All who worked at the hotel were extremely friendly and more than happy to do anything to help with any problems. The club rooms are large and well set out.... the chocolates each day really appreciated. The hotel is part of a larger resort. When staying at the Magellan you are able to use the facilities at any part of the resort. The country club has a full sized bowling alley which charges a minimal mount for use. There is also a billiard room available for use. The Magellan itself has a great pool with a swim up bar for those who get thirsty. There is a children's club pool and playground for the younger ones. The resort has several restaurants. I am happy to recommend each of those we tried. As the resort is situated on the harbour there are water sports readily available for those who like them. A trip to the islands close by is also highly recommended. A trip to town is only about 10minutes away but to be honest........ there is little reason to leave the hotel complex. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to stay at. We are looking forward to the chance to return there soon.

Disappointing stay from start to finish.

Firstly we arrived at the main reception, which turns out this wasn't the right place to go since we had a booking at Magellan Club, fair enough, it was an honest mistake. We were told to finish our drinks and "go down the stairs" to the right reception, however the concierge had our bags and didn't go down the stairs, there was no basic communication that we should follow him as he hadn't acknowledged us, we were told specifically to go down the stairs, where we got lost. Then we were treated like idiots by everyone when they hadn't communicated anything clearly, telling us to go one way when they really wanted us to follow someone else isn't clear communication.

Despite check in being at 2pm, our room wasn't ready till 3.30PM! It was very frustrating as it was about 35 degrees outside, we just wanted to shower and get changed after a long flight-instead we had to walk around killing time in the sun! The room had stains on the carpet, I think it may have been blood, also the carpet had lots of rips. No balcony, I think the cheaper rooms had balconies though.

There was no orientation around the property, we had no idea that the orange flags under the pool chairs were to be waved to get bar service (not really self explanatory), again, we were looked at like we were idiots for asking and trying to order drinks at Al Fresco.

The free wifi in the club was useless and cut out every 10mins, there's only free internet in the rooms if you have a cable, mobile devices and laptops are all wifi devices-no one travels with a cable these days.

The staff are also constantly in your face trying to sell you tours, I can't tell you how many times tours were being suggested to us, we only had a weekend, we wanted to relax and not feel rushed and pushed to go on tours. I had said this to one staff member that we didn't have time to go on a 12PM trip to the city as we didn't have time and wanted to relax around the resort. I asked about if it was difficult to getting a taxi and going in our own time and she mentioned a private car that could be booked and she'd look into it. Before I know it, she's booked us on a 12PM tour to see orangutangs at another hotel. It was really bizarre.

There are no ATMS on site, yet if you want to book anything with SeaQuest, you have to pay by cash. It made it difficult for us when we left as we had given all our RM to go para sailing so we had to go into the city and get cash before going to the airport, in the opposite direction.

This place was so disappointing

We stayed for 8 nights at the Magellan. As soon as you enter the huge Lobby, you cannot fail to be impressed. From the chaps at the concierge desk to the main reception, the staff were lovely, friendly & very helpful. We stayed on a B&B basis and I have to say the breakfast was amazing, with virtually anything you can think of to eat, all freshly cooked & again all the cooks & waiting staff were so smiley & kind. Take a trip to the islands for the snorkelling but even the little hotel beach has a great many fish swimming around your feet! The only 2 down sides to the stay was the price of the drinks in the hotel, alcohol was very, very expensive, also the room we stayed in did have a musty smell, having said that it was very clean with a huge bathroom and great air con. My advice would be, do all the trips offered, stay at the Magellan & enjoy a wonderful stay in Borneo!
